moderated Excellent resource for Windows 10 tutorials from Gizmo's article

Hi List,

I've been a big fan of the Gizmo's Freeware site for many years and have gotten a lot of helpful info and utilities from its email newsletter. It's most recent edition discussed a site with an extensive list of Windows 10 tutorials. I'll paste the text of the article after my signature but it came from this website:

https://www.techsupportalert.com/content/all-windows-10-tutorials-you-ll-ever-need.htm

My favorite thing about the Windows 10 tutorial website was the downloadable Excel file containing the tutorial index. It is a 2-column Excel spreadsheet with over 3900 rows with column A containing the link to the tutorial and column B containing a brief description of it.

The tutorials seem accessible with headings and support for other navigation quick keys and I hope some will find them useful. The website with the complete index and links to the specific tutorials can be found here:

Windows 10 Tutorials

Whether you already use Windows 10 or are making the switch from Windows 7 or 8.1, this extensive list of tutorials will show you how to do almost anything in Windows 10.

This treasure trove of Windows 10 tips and tutorials covers most areas of Windows 10. It's a great resource for anyone new to Windows 10, and Windows 10 users can find things they didn't know about or look for something specific. The tutorials are clear and easy to follow, often with more than one option to get something done.

The tutorials cover these categories:

• Network and Sharing

• Installation and Upgrade

• General Tips

• Browsers and Mail

• Gaming and Xbox

• Apps and Features

• Customization

• Virtualization

• BSOD (Blue Screen of Death)

• System Security

• User Accounts

• Hardware and Drivers

• Updates and Activation

• Backup and Restore

• Performance and Maintenance

• Mixed Reality

• Phone

In addition to the web page, the tutorial index is available on Google Sheets and can be downloaded as a PDF or an xlsx spreadsheet. Downloading the index makes it easier to peruse because there are many tutorials - the PDF file contains 127 US letter size pages. The tutorials and index are updated on a regular basis to keep up with Windows 10 changes.

All the Windows 10 tutorials from Windows Ten Forums can be viewed and the index downloaded here in xlsx format:

Hi. You can also press ctrl+Windows+- (the dash key on the row of numbers) and enter words which appear within an Aria live region which you can then choose to either suppress or always speak.

I’m trying to see if there exists a way to eliminate speaking of an automatic score ticker that counts down every second of every game under way in the American Hockey League. You see this during games, which take place most evenings, on https://theahl.com/ It makes for a lot of unnecessary and distracting speech. I’ve tried a lot of settings and the ticker just keeps on monotonously speaking.

I think this has already been said but just in case you missed it you do not need scripts as windows spacebar will cycle you through different input languages.

well I guess you're right, I couldn't get the input indicator off the taskbar.

as for choosing an input method to always use as default, it just wouldn't fill my need since I needs my keyboard to precisely use a different input language depending on what I have to write...

I believe a script allowing for switching back and forth among specific input languages would be great... too bad I cannot how to write a script...

At one time I would have said the blindphones list, but it's been shut down by its original group owner (which is not a surprise - I left because he was just so picky and unpredictable about what could or could not be posted).  I find it sad when there's an active community that an owner refuses to pass off to another owner if they no longer wish to manage it, and just shut it down without (or even with) warning.

The group that sprung up to replace it that has the most activity on Groups.io is PhonesForTheBlind.  There are also android-iOS and AndroidVision, both of which have fewer members and a lot less traffic.

There are likely others elsewhere, and I look forward to what others may offer.

Hi,
Years ago there was a product called a Plustek Opticbook 3600 book edge scanner. It’s claim to fame was a scanner bed which extended all the way to its front edge, thus allowing you to place the book’s binding right on the edge and lay pages completely flat. You get none of the typical “shadowing” associated with lying a book face-down and trying to get the very inside edges of the pages near the binding to scan accurately. It was a great concept.

Unfortunately I don’t think that product is still around.

Hello all,

Someone is highly recommending this scanner. I'm trying to research it, but wonder what the correct search-term for it is. I have found the words given as one word, two words, words both capitalized and not, with + in front of it, and all with different prices and features. The one I'm looking for is specially for scanning books, and has only 3 buttons: black/white, color, and "Go."

I would appreciate any information anyone can share. Many thanks.

Marilyn

well thank you both, I already do what you guys suggested, but I was wondering if there was a single key stroke combination to verbalize the input keyboard language. I know that this is not as if it were a long long way but I was just wondering, anyway thanks.
