Re: Jaws and upgrades, advantages
Edward Green
Hi John, Appreciating what you say about money not being an issue, but upgrading JAWS becomes more expensive the further away you are from current. So upgrading JAWS 2019 to the latest version will become more expensive when the new version comes out, around October as you suggest. At some point, it would become cheaper for you to buy a new version of JAWS outright using one of the convention special offers in the summer. If you’re in the US, you might also want to subscribe to the annual licence so that you always have the latest version. Cheers, Ed On 20 March 2021 11:16:06 "John J. Jaws and upgrades, advantages
John J. Fioravanti, Jr.
Hi: I'm currently using Jaws 2019 with Windows 10. Is there a great advantage to my upgrading to Jaws 2021? I use office, outlook, Acrobat reader and Google Chrome. essentially This is particularly important to me because I assume Jaws will upgrade in October of 2021. Money is not the issue. I o find jaws being a bit sluggish.

There are two ways to approach this in my opinion. You can set a repeating appointment titled Intake to repeat weekly on Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Then, when you have a name, edit that dates appointment, and apply it to only that date and not the series. Or, Schedule the repeating appointment the same way, but have it set as Free rather than Busy, then add a separate appointment for the person on that date and time, so you'll have two appointments at the same time, one as Intake, and one with the person's name. Either way, it is a bit of a pain. Richard "You know," said Arthur, "it's at times like this, when I'm trapped in a Vogon airlock with a man from Betelgeuse, and about to die of asphyxiation in deep space, that I really wish I'd listened to what my mother told me when I was young." "Why, what did she tell you?" "I don't know, I didn't listen." -- Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy On Mar 19, 2021, at 6:59 PM, Claudia <claudiadr2013@...> wrote: |

Subject: Accessible Online Calendaring System Hello, everyone.
I realize that what I’m about to ask may be extremely elementary to some, and may even be considered to be off topic for this list.
So, in order to minimize list traffic, please reply to me directly at
tombehler@...
Basically, my question is does anyone know of an accessible online monthly calendaring system that I can use to coordinate activities for an amateur radio organization of which I’m a Board member.
The events I coordinate occur weekly, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 12 noon local time, during each month of the year.
Right now, as I develop my monthly calendar, I put the calendar in a Microsoft word document format, and e-mail it out to those who need to respond. They then e-mail me back, telling me which dates they can take for a given event. After receiveing everyone’s information, I then update my calendar, and send the updated document out to all concerned.
While this actually has worked quite well, I’m thinking more and more that it would be nice to do something like this online, so that people could sign up for their preferred dates, and the most current information could be available to everyone.
I took a look at signup genius
https://www.signupgenius.com/,
but that app seems like much more than what I need, and appears to have basic accessibility issues with Jaws.
I’m looking for something relatively simple that could be completed online, and that then could be saved in a text or .doc format, after which I could emboss the final monthly calendar in Braille.
I’m using Windows 10 here with the latest version of Jaws 2021. I also have Microsoft 365, which I know has a calendaring function.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Jaws and Office 365 Calendar
Claudia
Hello,
on my work laptop, I am using Jaws 2020, with Office 365. I have to schedule intakes on my calendar, so here is my question. I do intake interviews as part of my work, and they are recurring appointments but with new applicants every week but at the same time. If I set up the appointments in the Office 365 calendar, I can't seem to view the individual names, for the respective days. In other words, my calendar might look like this. Intake 9 AM Intake 10 AM. Intake 11 AM Intake 12 PM But, I need these appointments to occur every week. If I set up the recurring appointment, I cannot figure out how to see the different names, from week to week, during that scheduled time slot. Thanks. Hi, Yes, I have had this issue for some time and more than one version of JAWS. Occurs on my desktop and laptop. Sometimes F11 works fine and other times not so well. I find that if I try a 2nd time it often works. Sorry no fixes here or particular reason just to let you know you’re not alone with this one.

Hello. I seem to be having a problem with the system tray dialog in jaws 2021. When I press insert f11 I do get the list of items but when I press enter on one of them, the system right clicks somewhere on the desktop instead of the system trey and the item I have selected. It’s as if I’m right clicking on an empty spot on the desktop instead of the item I’m wanting to right click on in the system tray. Has anyone had this issue? If so, how was it fixed or could it be fixed. Thanks |

All existing versions of Outlook, including 365, use the code base for Outlook 2016, so Go Contact Sync Mod works with them. This could change with the next generation of Office 365/Office 2021 if there is a substantial change in the code base. Only time will tell. Re: orc apps

Yes, right now, Voice Dream Scanner is the best iPhone scanning app in my opinion.
But, with the Jaws Convenient OCR, You do have to keep launching the scan to add pages, unless your flatbed scanner has an automatic document feeder. I do not have the Pearl camera, it may be able to do more than one page without having to launch the scan each time with insert+space, o, then a, then alt+q or tab to acquire and hit spacebar.

Hi Mark,

Dictionary files are stored in your settings folder with the name of the application (and extension .jdf) or in case of all applications with the name "default.jdf". If your technical conference is based on an offline application/desktop application you can only overwrite existing application JDF files or since the JDF files are text based writing a script to add the entries at the end of this text file. If your technical conference is based on an internet site used in a browser you can use domain-specific files. If you want to create a dictionary file, let's say for a website called "www.my-site.com" you can do this: - Open your site in the browser - Press JAWS+D to open Dictionary Manager. If there's no dictionary file created for your browser, JAWS will ask you to make a new one. - If the Dictionary Manager app is on the screen go to file menu and open it. - There's an entry for making a domain-specific Dictionary Manger file (I don't know the exact name since I'm not using an English version of JAWS) The entries you make within this file are stored in "www.my-site.com.jdf". You can copy this file from your Settings Folder and mail it to other persons if you like. Every time they will visit your site (www.my-site.com) JAWS will load this file and unload it if you are going to another URL. Hope this helps Udo

Actually, you can just keep scanning and it will keep adding pages. I don't know what the limit is, but I've definitely scanned more than one.
