Hi,

You have 3 choices,

1. Ask someone sighted to help you if they are there with you;

2. Use the free service of Be My Eyes with a smart phone that has a camera;

3. The paid services of Aira, again with the use of a smart phone with a
camera.

Hi all,
I'm hoping someone might be able to help me. I just tried signing up for a
newsletter and everything was going grate until I came across a validation
code which is supposed to be entered in a box. There's no checkbox or
anything, no option for an audio challenge or anything, just a link to
re-set the code. I've tried signing up for this using Edge, Firefox and
Google Chrome, and I even tried turning on Narrator and I still wasn't able
to read the validation code, and I don't have a smartphone. Any idea how I
might be able to read this code, or am I going to have to get sighted help?
I can provide the link if that would help... Really hope someone can help
me!!!!!! Running the latest versions of everything. Thanks

Don,

I am at a loss.  I just tried changing multiple types of settings in the calendar view and cannot replicate the issue you are having. I think this is a case where some sighted assistance to see if there is something odd with your layout would be smart. – whether that is taking advantage of the AIRA’s free JAWS help, Microsoft Accessibility, or Vispero.  I really wanted to save the day for  you, but cannot figure this one out.

My guess is that one group of us is talking right past the other because we're coming at "what's being edited" from opposite sides.

I had presumed that it was the formula that what was wanted to be edited directly in the cell, and in that case the checkbox for Allow editing directly in cell should be checked.

Values in non-computed cells are directly editable after hitting F2 when focus is on those cells with the above noted checkbox checked.  The cursor is put to the rightmost side of the cell and you can backspace out the content one character at a time.

If I have that checkbox UNchecked, if I try to edit a cell by hitting F2, focus is thrown to the formula box and the editing takes place there. And that's whether the cell content is an actual formula or is text, a number with no formula, etc.  Any and all editing takes place in the formula box.

The default is that the checkbox is checked.

Marty,

Here are the steps I did a couple of years ago to fix the problem, hopefully they still work.

1. Have Excel open.

2. Press “alt+f” to open the file menu then press “t” for the options.

3. Press “control+tab” until the focus is on the “Advanced” options page.

4. Press “alt+e” to toggle the “Allow editing directly in cells”

option. Ensure that this is unchecked.

5. Press “enter” to save the changes. Editing cell contents should now work again.

FYI, the "Tell me what you want to do" help search in Excel is really helpful for this sort of thing.  I searched on "edit cell contents" and ran into this in the help.  You are trying to enable [check] the Allow editing directly in cells checkbox:

  1. Click File > Options > Advanced.

    -OR-

In Excel 2007 only: Click the Microsoft Office Button Office button image , click Excel Options, and then click the Advanced category.

  2. Under Editing options, do one of the following:

    • To enable Edit mode, select the Allow editing directly in cells check box.

    • To disable Edit mode, clear the Allow editing directly in cells check box.

Enter Edit mode

To start working in Edit mode, do one of the following:

  • Double-click the cell that contains the data that you want to edit.

This starts Edit mode and positions the cursor in the cell in the location that you double-clicked. The cell contents are also displayed in the formula bar.

  • Click the cell that contains the data that you want to edit, and then click anywhere in the formula bar.

This starts Edit mode and positions the cursor in the formula bar at the location that you clicked.

  • Click the cell that contains the data that you want to edit, and then press F2.

This starts Edit mode and positions the cursor at the end of the cell contents.

I am using Thunderbird with Windows 10 and JAWS 2021 and I have noticed that when I open an email to read it, JAWS repeats the subject and my email address sometimes three times before beginning to read the body of the message.  Is there anything that I can do to get JAWS to not do this.  I would rather that JAWS just be silent while loading the message after saying the subject once.

Which view are you using?  I typically use Day View or week view and don’t think I get this message.  Note that it’s most efficient to use tab to move through appointments.

Hi, I’ve had this issue with my calendar where if I have more than two events on a certain day, I get the following message from JAWS and I cannot get to the next appointment for that day.

Message:  Overflow Button navigates to: Tuesday, April 27, 2021, from 12:00am to Wednesday, April 28, 2021 12:00am

I’m using Microsoft Outlook Subscription Version 16.0.12527.21504 any suggestions would be appreciated.

Moderated Help - can I create a narrated power point using JAWS 2021?

Cynthia Bruce

Hi All,

I am trying to record a conference presentation, and I am running into trouble. The optimal way to do this would be using narrated power point because I can do it one slide at a time. However, I can’t seem to get JAWS to read the record, stop, or play recording buttons – my partner can see them but I can’t get to them. So, I can’t tell if I am recording, can’t listen to what I may or may not have recorded, and can’t delete what I have recorded.

Thanks,

Cynthia

OK Comcast doesn't like mail.com addresses. Every time I send a message there, it keeps failing.

The Kindle app download link is here:

https://is.gd/UY33eY

I've shortened it, because Amazon.com links will separate into 2-3 lines in emails.

You can read the book with which ever screen reader you're using, if the book supports it. Most of the ones I've gotten do. If it doesn't the app has text to speech built-in.

Hello List,

Several people I know whave written books. I would like to read them, but they are only available in the Kindle format.

I know Kindle was not very accessible before.

I am wondering if that application has improved.

Is it better to use the Kindle on a PC or a BrailleNote Touch Plus.

Thanks,

Jeff Lukacsena
