Please help--MS update question
Shirley Tracy
This morning, there was a notice of a Windows update. I didn’t think much about it…until I let it update. Now, things aren’t working the same. Does anyone have a problem reading lines or words? And how do I stop JAWS from saying “select” and “not selected” for nearly everything?

An interesting anomaly with screenreading software and Norton
Arkadiusz Świętnicki <nuno69a@...>
Hi,
I have installed Norton 360 on my old computer, just for the fun of breaking the system. I found out that the software reads with JAWS, but there is no way to interact with the controls! Pressing enter, trying to click with the JAWS cursor or using the Touch cursor have no effect. With Zhengdu, which is my main screenreader now I have a completely different problem. The Norton software is not read at all, but when I blindly press TAB and ENTER, I seem to open various windows and interfaces. I have read on their support site that I can use icacls jfw.exe /setintegritylevel M command to make the software accessible, but even though the permissions got set, the problem still persists. Is there anything I can do to it?

Instead, you change them into something that approaches the feel of a classic menu. To do this, 1. Open Word. 2. Press JAWS key plus V to enter Quick Settings. 3. In the search box which appears, type virtual 4. Arrow down, and if you see something like, Virtual Ribbon Menu not checked 5. Check this box with the Space Bar. 6. TAB to the OK button, and press Space or ENTER. Now, the ribbons will appear different, and according to some people's thinking, will be easier to use, although I don't personally think this to be true. Bill White billwhite92701@dslextreme.com

Hi how do you get rid of the ribbons if you don't want them? Is this in settings?- You don't, at least not literally. The Virtual Ribbon is a JAWS feature and turning it on or off is done in JAWS settings. The virtual ribbon acts as a mask or skin for the actual ribbons used by Windows or application programs, but they are still there because they have been the standard user interface under Windows for many years now. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 20H2, Build 19042 One does not discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time. ~ André Gide

That's exactly the way I did it with a 3 channel mixer I got from Amazon, it works great. I can hear the Zoom conference yet hear Jaws through my hearing aids, if I want. Sometimes I don't want to hear who left or join the meeting.

There are lots of help topics and resources on the Microsoft site. Also, you can save to locations other than "One Drive" by using the "Save as" option in the file menu. The program is very functional with JAWS and like all software has some glitches and hiccups at times. Dan

Hi,
How much luck have you had using JAWS with IBM Cognos Analytics? What techniques did you use? I still find myself confused, even after reading the IBM accessibility guide.

Hi, I'm using jaws
2021 and I've had no trouble regarding this matter so far;
however, in connection with reputation based protection, I
want to say that, it's a vexing matter, no doubt, but a
necessary one because if you ever got your PC infected with a

The reason I left reputation-based protection turned off is that I didn't need my antivirus and my browser telling me about supposed threats, and causing me not to be able to download files which I know to be harmless.
