I’m with Mike, that would be a total pain. And like Mike, I needed the reminder to know what the issue was. There are too many emails on this list to keep track without the context being included.
I’m glad they are paying attention.
With Jaws 2019 and 2020, none of my standard desktop shortcuts that I had made would work. I even had Eric Damery remote in to see the issue and they never really got it resolved. But, for some reason, it is resolved now in Jaws 2021. That too was a case of only a few people had the issue. I hope your issue gets resolved sooner.

Hi Mike,
Sorry, it was the original topic. When jaws starts up, you cannot get at the menus. You have to unload and reload it. When jaws is set to start at the logon screen and to start for this user, insert+j or any other key is not available to get at the menus. When you unload and reload it, it works just fine. When I started the topic, I had a huge rant about it!! You will see it from the start. It doesn’t happen to everyone, in fact, I have only found two other people that it happens to. Nevertheless, it is a bug, and should be fixed, given the amount of money we pay for the product. As you can see from my previous post, this has been confirmed by Vispero.

Re: Most accessible antivirus or security suite with JAWS
paul lemm
Hi,
For what it’s worth I personally use Viper, it’s a paid anti-virus solution, but I’ve found it to be fairly accessible. There are a few things which don’t work perfectly, but on the whole I’ve found it more accessible than some other paid solutions I’ve tried which are out there (like Bitdefender etc). I do have to confess though honestly I don’t really often have to physically open the program and use it. mainly if I want to start or stop a scan, turn off the firewall or for some reason want to exit viper I can do this all from its menu options from the windows system tray, but the few times I have had to open up the program I’ve been able to navigate ok, but again, I haven’t really played around with many of its more advanced features. I don’t notice any slow down when its scanning, but by the same token I have a fairly decent PC, so not sure how it might be on a slower system. The other observation is when it is scanning, if you open the program you can see it is performing a scan, but you can’t see how far through the scan it currently is. I saw a post on another forum where another screen reader user said that they are apparently very open to accessibility feedback too.

Unfortunately I am away from home now and can’t pull up that report. I can tell you that it was the week of Christmas, not much was going on, and I hadn’t downloaded much.
Also, something I found interesting for people who use browsers other than Edge or possibly old versions of IE. The malware protection of Windows defender doesn’t extend to other browsers. Anyway, this is an argument that has been played out on this list many times. Perhaps I phrased my question incorrectly when I asked people what they liked. I was most concerned about the accessibility of different solutions. I have used defender and I know how it works. I am not ruling out continuing to use defender. What I am doing is saying, “hey, It’s been a while. Maybe I should look at all of my solutions and see what would work best for me at this point and time.” I’m glad people like it. I’m glad it’s come a long way since I first played with it 10 or so years ago. And believe it or not I’m really not trying to attack someone’ else’s product of choice.

Re: Jeff Lukacsena: podcasts and YouTube downloads
JM Casey
I usually just go to the podcasts websites and download them from there. Many that don’t have an obvious link for locally downloading episodes are available on podbay, which does. I’m sure you’ll get lots of recommendations for youtube downloaders..specifically one programme in particular that always seems to be a topic of discussion on blind tech/screen-reader mailing lists, Pontes Media Downloader – I don’t use it and I don’t bother downloading content from youtube, generally.
As for podcasts – that would depend on your interests. But some of the ones I listen to include:
Projection Booth (probably the best film cast on the internet; for true cinephiles and people interested in the stories behind famous and infamous films, some mainstream, many not)
the B Movie Cast (a bunch of friendly and funny people ramble about a lot of stuff including great classic cult movies for hours),
Conspiracy Theory Podcast (just what it says on the tin, really)
The paranoid Strain (kind of like the aforementioned, but very in-depth – debunks some of the most heinous and weird conspiracy nonsense out there with extensive research, and some humour)
Behind the Bastards (the host and his guests, usually comedians or other podcasters, go to town on some of the worst people in history – dictators, politicians, white collar criminals, historical figures, fascists, etc -- some terrific research here as well, but the left-wing or even somewhat anarchist slant might put some people off.)
Sword an d Scale (a “true rime” podcast, quite a production with lots of audio clips and such – the host can say the damnedest thigns sometimes, but I agree with him at least most of the time and anyway, the stories can be pretty rivetting. It gets heavy so not for the easily bothered.)
Some science fiction literature and TV-related podcasts.

Hi!
I am using JAWS 2020, Windows 10 and LibreOffice 7.1. I wanted to adjust a particular setting while using LibreOffice. Therefore I pressed JAWSKey+6. When Settings Center opened, it thinks I am using the scripts for “Symphony.” There is not a script set for LibreOffice, and I do not have “Symphony”; whatever that is. Why is this? How, or should, I go about creating a whole new settings scheme for a new application I will call “LibreOffice?"
Thanks, Richard
