It has been a while I just remember nothing on that suite was of interest to me. It to me was like, I can’t stand Opera music, no matter where it comes from, it is still opera. I don’t think any of the U S stations offered were of interest to me, no news, no sports. It still seemed a high percentage of what was on there was UK based.

This bug does not exist in JAWS 2019. When in the Jarte word processor executing commands to select text does not speak. Pressing the shift key along with arrow keys does select the text but JAWS is silent. Steps to Reproduce 1. Open Jarte. 2. Enter some text in the blank document. 3. Press ctrl+home to move to the top of the document. 4. Press the shift key along with arrow keys to select text. Expected Results JAWS should verify the text as it is being selected, followed by the word “selected.” Actual Results JAWS is silent when selecting text. There is a workaround for the bug involving JAWS not identifying selected text when in Jarte. Until the issue has been fixed you can use the place markers feature to mark the beginning of a block of text with ctrl+Windows+K. Next, move to the other end of the block of text and press the layered keystroke insert+space key followed by the letter M. Once this has been done you can delete, cut or copy the text. I'm wondering if someone running JAWS 2020 or earlier can confirm this behavior. A few things to note. In order to get JAWS to speak the location of the caret or cursor from within Jarte enhanced editor mode should be disabled within Settings Center but please do this once Jarte has been opened to ensure that toggling this setting to off will not negatively impact another program. For reference when you press the shift key with arrow key navigation the expected behavior is that you would hear the text which you are highlighting, along with the word "selected." With Jarte text is being selected but JAWS is silent while selection commands are being issued. HI Madison,'

The following advice is applicable to any software product (not just JAWS): When Vispero or anyone asks for steps to reproduce something, they usually mean what you want, what you are actually seeing, and details in between. The key thing to note is being as detailed as much as possible, using what you remember and notes you wrote down. Try: 1. Write down what you want JAWS to do. You want to be very specific. 2. Write down what is actually happening. Be sure to provide specific details if possible. These two things will help you stay on track when reporting the issue. 3. For each step, write down what you did and how JAWS responded, including commands you performed (including keystrokes if any), close to what JAWS says, and any behavior you have noticed. Be sure to be very detailed here, otherwise tech support will have a harder time reconstructing your scenario. 4. Be sure to note down other details such as JAWS version, version of the app you are using, etc. Package all your notes in an email or other format that Vispero can read and send them your notes. I'm saying all this to emphasize the need to be detailed in reporting issues. Cheers, Joseph

Hello, I use the most recent version of windows10 and Jaws2021. I’m using Chrome and go to a particular web site. I was told I need to go to an item and hover the mouse over it. I pressed jaws key, control and pressed enter. Nothing happened. Nothing appeared and it didn’t say any line number that I might then jump to. Is there another way to get into a pop up? Thanks, Kevin

You probably accidently pressed Control + T instead of Control + Y, T starts a new discussion and Y is for the folder list. These are Outlook shortcut keys and I highly doubt this would be different for you, just a small shift to the left since T is next to Y.

So I found out that Control y started a new discussion so I had to use Shift f6 to get to the tree view.

Open zoom.

Hit control tab until you hear "home tab". Tab to the settings button and hit enter. I had to tab once then to get to where it says General. Arrow down to audio and hit enter. Then, tab through the audio settings where you will be able to test your speakers, set the volume, and test your microphone by tabbing to the appropriate buttons and hitting enter and following instructions. That’s nice, if you live in the U K. But, a lot of us don’t. I myself did download Speak on a while back, then deleted it as it is strictly UK content.

Speak On Media Suite provides a fully functional Podcast app alongside a raft of other extremely useful apps for use on a PC, including eBook reading, Daisy Book and Audio Book playing and access to the RNIB online News and Magazine service for people in the UK. There is a slight learning curve which is why I produced a series of Audio tutorials on Speak On. These Audio tutorials are accessible now from within the program itself under the optional VI Podcast App under the community section. You can download Speak On and learn more on Speak On Media Suite Home page http://www.speakon.org.uk/SpeakOn.html my Audio tutorials on Speak On are also available separately https://www.speakon.org.uk/SpeakOn/MediaSuite/public/docs-r/AudioTutorial.html

Rick, why not contact Spotify instead? Freedom Scientific (or whatever they’re called now) may be able to do something on their end with the JAWS software, eventually, but that’s when or if they care or get around to it. Spotify support might be able to offer some suggestions, or they may even be interested in making modifications for accessibility, if that’s what’s needed. Do you use the free version of spotify? I might give it a gander sometime.

That’s what I have been doing, but I have just been wondering if JAWS could work with Spotify. What annoys me about listening to podcasts using Spotify is that they always appear in descending, not ascending, order. I have contacted this list and have asked if you could change that setting in Spotify using JAWS but nobody seems to know. I’m going to contact Freedom Scientific again and suggest that they consider making Spotify compatible with JAWS.

It’s too bad Freedom Scientific is so ignorant of spotify. I haven’t messed with it so I can’t say how manageable it really is for a screen-reader user. I like podcasts nowadays, but I just go to their websites and download local copies of the episodes (not necessarily easily done with 8all* podcasts). If you use a desktop, you should be able to play episodes in your browser.

Dear Listers:
I have just recently become acquainted with Spotify. I have submitted to your list questions about how to use Spotify with JAWS and nobody is being of any help. Today I tried contacting Freedom Scientific and they say that they don’t have anything to do with Spotify. In fact, I don’t know if they have even heard of it. So I’m trying to find out from anybody if there are any places where you can subscribe to podcasts which are compatible with JAWS and which you can use JAWS with, such as creating and adding to music playlists or, when you find a podcast if you want to hear episodes in ascending rather than in descending order. If any of you know of any such programs that are compatible with JAWS will you please tell me what they are? I do not use Apple. I use a Desktop PC, use Windows 10 and use JAWS 2021.

Re: Jaws & Discussion Board in Blackboard
Ashleigh Piccinino
You might want to look at the help topics on Blackboard about using JAWS. They say to have forms mode turned to manual, but even that doesn’t work all the time. I to am a frustrated Blackboard user/student who uses JAWS. I’ve dealt with this many times, so try Firefox for your browser. It seems to work the best out of all the browsers used.
