Hopefully you were able to run the technical support tool so Jaws can in fact try and get a better handle on this, after all, if it affects so few people those who are affected need to do their part.

Of course unloading and reloading Jaws is a work-around which doesn't require you to go out of your way that much, another one might be to run Narrator when Windows starts, i.e. at the logon screen, and to see if that fixes the issue.

A few years ago one of my 4 computers at my store (it was an identical model to one of my others) would not let me read the Windows Start menu with Jaws, nor Settings or any Windows apps like Calculator. If I went into settings Jaws would just be absolutely silent, visually I could move through the categories and if I arrowed right, for example, 3 times and pressed enter Network and Internet would open, but as I said, Jaws would not make a peep.

This went on for over a year and any time I had to do anything in Settings on that computer I had to unload Jaws and use Narrator. Then at one point I read something on a list, can't remember which one, where somebody had this issue and they had figured out the solution. The problem was that for some reason a setting in Group Policy Editor (this was a Windows pro version) had been changed. It took me all of 20 seconds to change it back and from then on all was well, Jaws read everything fine again. I may have made a note somewhere what this was, but I can't remember now and don't feel like digging around to look it up, but this goes to show how one small little setting can make a huge difference and cause a pretty major headache for a very small number of people.

Sorry, it was the original topic.

When jaws starts up, you cannot get at the menus.

You have to unload and reload it.

When jaws is set to start at the logon screen and to start for this user, insert+j or any other key is not available to get at the menus.

When you unload and reload it, it works just fine.

When I started the topic, I had a huge rant about it!!

You will see it from the start.

It doesn’t happen to everyone, in fact, I have only found two other people that it happens to.

Nevertheless, it is a bug, and should be fixed, given the amount of money we pay for the product.

As you can see from my previous post, this has been confirmed by Vispero.

you will see below, that after two versions of jaws, (2020 and 2021), vispero has eventually admitted, that this problem in fact, does exist.
apparently, they are looking into it.

It’s probably a generic set of scripts named for Lotus Symphony, a discontinued suite (I think) from IBM on which Libre and Open Office *may* have based some code.

I am using JAWS 2020, Windows 10 and LibreOffice 7.1.  I wanted to adjust a particular setting while using LibreOffice.  Therefore I pressed JAWSKey+6.  When Settings Center opened, it thinks I am using the scripts for “Symphony.”  There is not a script set for LibreOffice, and I do not have “Symphony”; whatever that is.  Why is this?  How, or should, I go about creating a whole new settings scheme for a new application I will call “LibreOffice?"

I have never, for a single second, felt the slightest bit of guilt about ad blocking.  Content providers should be paid, much like newspapers were, for having placed the ad combined with a visit count for the page.  In print media, one was never guaranteed that what was circulated meant that there would be literal eyes-on for the advertising in that media.  Payment was for placement and the amount determined by circulation.  Now, in cyberspace, circulation can be calculated as page hits.  But the fact that someone visits a page should be enough.

I have every right not to download anything to my computer that I do not wish to download.  And given the intrusive nature of online advertising, that's why I block it.  Since I can see, the incessant blinking, scrolling, animation, etc., etc., that goes with online advertising is the worst kind of visual clutter that distracts from my primary purpose for being anywhere.  If much or most of it did not behave in that manner, I'd probably never have started using an ad blocker to begin with.  Stuff that just sits quietly in it's own little box that the content flows around can be easily ignored, but that style was getting increasingly infrequent.

Something happened where things got corrupted so badly on my SSD, that nothing was there, Even Windows. I did have a backup, but some things weren’t there, including Silenzio. JAWS method of trying to prevent the beginning of words being cut off doesn’t work well on this Asus Zenbook Laptop. Silenzio works much better. I’ve looked on Google, with no luck. I’d appreciate learning where to get it.
