Thanks, Mike, I tried this and no difference. I will try to restart in the morning and then do it again.

Hi Cynthia,
This was a supposed fix in the latest February update, see below: • Resolved an issue where the Avoid Speech Cut Off feature stopped working when using the Sound Cards option in the JAWS Utilities menu to switch to Open your Settings Center default all applications Type, avoid, in the search field and allow a couple of seconds for the results to pop-up. You should have only 1 result, Avoid speech cutoff when using bluetooth.... Make sure this is checked, and if it's already check, you could try unchecking it to see if anything changes as well.
I didn't have any problems with a bluetooth headset but, I did have a problem losing speech all together after this update and checking that checkbox seemed to clear up my loss of speech issue.

Hello Everyone,
I have encountered an issue with JAWS and my Bluetooth headphones again, and it seems to have happened right after I installed the February update to JAWS 2021. I am using Windows 10, and Jabra evolve Bluetooth headphones. Before, my issue was that I lost speech when using zoom, but I managed to trouble shoot that problem by changing soundcards when using JAWS. Now, when I turn on my headset, I lose speech everywhere. Does anyone know anything about this? If not, can I uninstall the latest update?
Many thanks,
Cynthia

Maybe. Would be interesting to see it tried. I personally feel it wouldn’t’ be fast enough and result in a fairly unpleasant experience, but I’m not really certain. Despite the lack of sync-up (I don’t know how or if that can be done), having a braille display with a text file loaded (srt) still seems the best choice to me, personally. Trouble is, you’d have trouble finding new content this way. I’m ok with it because I mostly watch old cult films. Lol That said I did want to watch the series Dark in German because the english dubbing is horrendous to me (although interestingly, my german friend didn’t find it so).

Earlier today a friend of mine phoned me up to ask me about how JAWS interacts with the subtitles on videos: both standalone video files that play in apps like VLC, and videos that run in websites like YouTube.
I know that without very quick OCR, JAWS would always struggle with subtitles that are "burnt in" to a video. But what about subtitles that are included as a text file along with the video? Can JAWS access these, and somehow synchronise them with a video as it plays?
In speaking to my friend it struck me that this isn't something I've ever done, and that I don't know how to do it. My friend wants to know because he produces educational videos for a publishing company, and he wants to make them more accessible. It also occurs to me that having JAWS read out subtitles could be used to create a form of audio description.
Do any of you know how to do this?

Hi,
Although this doesn’t directly answer your question, I haven’t tried it but there is an experimental add on for NVDA which I believe can read OCR in real time from a video. Again, I haven’t tried this, it seems people are using it to read subtitles (some people seem to be having more success than others) but if you want to read more about the add on there is a topic on the audio games forum, I’ll put the link below. Just talking subtitles, I know on my iPhone voice over will read subtitles if I’m watching something on the Netflix app which has subtitles (I know as I accidently turned on subtitles by mistake the other day hahaha). anyway, link to that NVDA addon topic below:

In my opinion, the *only* really pleasant way to deal with subtitles is with a braille display. I try to find .srt files on the internet, which are basically just text fiels with time codes. It's not the best experience but, well, there are millions of films in languages I don't understand, so as a person who appreciates cinema, what else can you do? Lol

You've probably heard of Windows 10 S, the OS version allowing only installations of apps from Microsoft Store. In this article:
you can read that Windows 10 S was leading Apple to develop the Microsoft Store version. By the way, the benefit of using the app from Microsoft Store is a clean install. If you install the old native app you will get services from Apple installed too, for example Bonjour.
Because all of this I tried the Microsoft Store app first.

If you do that save, the dotx will end up in the same folder as Normal.dotm. This actually drives me crazy, and I always move my DOTX files out to folders that are related to what I created that template for. I have lots of templates for envelopes, letters with letterhead, and similar. I also use them for fillable MS-Word forms, where activating the DOTX file creates a "blank" version of the fillable form with the various form fields you fill out. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 20H2, Build 19042 One does not discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time. ~ André Gide

Suite Hi, Mike. No, you can't transfer the normal template from Word 2010 to Office 2016 Pro. This is because they have a different format, and a different file extension. The templates in Word 2010 have a .dotm extension, whereas the templates in Office 2016 Pro have a .dotx extension.- Bill, I'm sorry, but in this case, you're incorrect. The Normal.dotm file is a special form of template that has existed for all versions of MS-Office since 2007 (I think, as that's when all the doc and dot files got X tacked on to the end). It is separate from user created document templates, which are, as you note, DOTX files. Normal.dotm should be located in C:\Users\{insert appropriate user folder here}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates and can be copied and pasted back in to that folder, or the equivalent folder for another user, if you want all of the changes you've made to your blank word document defaults over time. DOTM and DOTX both have been in use for many years. And if you're someone who creates document templates you'll have way more DOTX files. Normal.dotm is generally singular (unless you've made a copy for backup somewhere). -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 20H2, Build
