There are a lot of people who use Kurzy on the Bookshare volunteer list and I expect that they can help you. To subscribe go to FreeLists.org and do a search for bksvol-discuss and it should turn up.

It sounds to me like Internet Explorer 9 is behaving normally. When You get that prompt just press alt+N and tab to the save split button. Click that and wait for the download to complete. You might want to do another alt+N again and tab to the close button to close the notification bar. Your zipped download will be found in the download folder under owner. From there you can unzip it or move it to what ever folder you want to move it to.

Hi all I want to find out where and how can I find my computers hardware details in windows 7? If right clicking on computer properties it gives you some info like processor and how many GB ram but I need more, I need to see my hard drive RPM speeds and my RAM clock speeds. I know all this info shows on screen when switching on a computer but there must be some way of accessing it through command prompt or someware.

Thank you both... I follow wwhat you said and it works. I like to file my books in subfolders at the time of download so when I want them I go through those subfolders rather than the extensive list of downloads I have. How can I do this when downloading this way? When I hit alt-n the only choices I have are open, save, cancel, and close.
Thanks again, Sandy

Hi Nickus, You can get the info by running the Belarc program which is free. The report it generates is very complete. Below is the web address: http://www.belarc.com/

Hi, If you hit down arrow on the Save split button, you will get three options. Save, save as, and save and open. If you hit enter on save as, you will get your generic save as dialog box. HTH, Aleeha

When you get to that Save choice, arrow up and down. You will find a Save As option that you can hit Enter on. This will give you the Windows Explorer dialogue box where you can choose to save your files wherever you like.
I have found that after hitting Alt + N I have to tab down and back up again to get to the Save choice first.

Check out "Styles." You should be able to modify Headings 1 through 3 (and beyond if necessary) so that the numbering is outline appropriate. Having done that, you can move around the headings, promote and demote them, and change them. Remember, you can apply the headings with Alt plus the top row numbers 1 through 3 (at least). I think you have to apply styles for levels 4 and beyond, but control plus shift plus s brings up the styles dialog box.

Hi Ed,
First of all, thanks for the information. I have tried playing with the styles list and when I choose one, I don't seem to be getting subordinate headings. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Check out "Styles." You should be able to modify Headings 1 through 3 (and beyond if necessary) so that the numbering is outline appropriate. Having done that, you can move around the headings, promote and demote them, and change them. Remember, you can apply the headings with Alt plus
the top row numbers 1 through 3 (at least). I think you have to apply styles for levels 4 and beyond, but control plus shift plus s brings up the styles dialog box.

Guys: Here is a suggestion. Type your heading first To apply the style, you can go to the styles list or press Alt 1 for heading 1 (Note, you may have to hit bypass first, Insert plus 3). Now, if your headings aren't set up for outline numbering, you may need to modify the styles. If you do outlines lots, you can create a template file, calling it outline. at (it may be datx in Word 2007 or 2010. Actually, you can use your soon-to-be created outline as a template. Just delete the text first, leaving only a couple of carriage returns. The styles will stick. To modify the styles, get into the format/styles ribbon/menu. Right click with the mouse on modify. Then, open the format menu. You can format your heading any way you like, e.g., bold, italics, solid capitals, or whatever. If you go down the list, you will find numbering as an option. Be sure to choose "outline." Then, double-check to be sure that, for example, level 1 is an I.. Repeat the same for heading level 2. Once you've finished as far down as you like (you can go to heading 9), you are ready. You may want to close the "styles" area. Go to view and uncheck "task pane." Now you are ready. Type your heading 1. Then, apply heading 1. The style should apply the appropriate heading number and apply the appropriate font and attribute. The fonts and attributes will last until a carriage return. It takes a little playing around at first, but thereafter, it is a breeze. For instance, I use styles every single day for every single document, and I do scores of documents a week, mostly complex legal agreements.

I think the message got chopped. Here is the script Script SelectNextChar() SelectNextCharacter () EndScript In the JKM file make sure under common keys that you have Shift+RightArrow=SelectNextChar I suggest creating the script first and assigning it some shortcut keys not used by JAWS or you will get a warning. If you select the next character, it will speak the character and then speak what you have selected so far. Hope this helps, John Martyn -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounces@... Rob,
I would be very careful in editing your built-in styles unless you really understand how to manipulate styles and templates.
Are you wanting to create an outline with a hierarchy such as I 1. i 1) etc.? Sorry but I don't know the correct outline order off the top of my head. If you do, then you simply choose numbered outline style on the format
menu.
The following refers to Word 2003, but the concepts are the same.

Create an outline numbered list

An outline numbered list shows list items at different levels rather than indented at one level.
Outline numbered list
list of 2 items 1. On the Format menu, click Bullets and Numbering, and then click the Outline Numbered tab. 2. Click a list format that does not contain the text "Heading", and then click OK. list end
The first number of the list is displayed in the document.
list of 1 items 3. Type the list text, pressing ENTER after each item. list end
Subsequent numbers are automatically inserted at the beginning of each line at the same numbering level.
list of 1 items 4. To move an outline numbered item to the appropriate numbering level, do one of the following on the Formatting toolbar : list of 2 items nesting level 1 . To demote the item to a lower numbering level, click a list number, and click Increase Indent Button image . . To promote the item to a higher numbering level, click a list number, and

Ed and others: I'm also an attorney and just started using word, switching from word perfect. Could you recommend a good tutorial for word with jaws that would describe styles headings and the like? I especially need help with these concepts for brief writing. Motions and the like don't present a problem for me. I need to learn the more advanced concepts. Thanks in advance. If I were doing it.
1. I would place the title at the top of the page. then double space to the outline. 2. Type the Roman number I at the left margin, then tab once to type in the text. 3. Press enter. You will now automatically have Roman number II. If you want that, tab to add text. If not, tab once without typing anything and the Roman II will magically become an A. Tab once from the A to fill in the text and press enter. 4. Now you have B. If you want it, type the text and press enter and you will have C. 5. If you don't want C, shift+tab and C will magically become Roman II. 6. If you want little Roman i, ii, and so on under C, tab once and they will appear. Shift+tab to go farther to the left.
Have fun!

Hi Ann,
Will I need to have lists turned on or how can I get it to show the capital letters? I've been playing with the numbered lists, but it's not exactly what in the order that I want. Thanks.

If you don't want C, shift+tab and C will magically become Roman II. 6. If you want little Roman i, ii, and so on under C, tab once and they will appear. Shift+tab to go farther to the left.

Freedom Scientific itself used to have a pretty good tutorial on styles and headings. It was released long enough ago that it was on cassette. If someone has seen something more recently, or if that is on the FS Website, you might want to chime in. The principles in the tutorial were for Word 2003, but they carry forward.

I would select the text that you want to have as block text and then go to numbering, (alt H then N) and arrowing tonone. When you resume your outline, you can start by typing in the next number, or you can go back to numbering and tab over to "Start at #"

You might try hitting shift-enter. You can also turn numbers on and off, but I'd have to hunt around to recall how. It may be under one of the Options tabs. Highlight the paragraph mark, make the change for as many paragraphs as you want, then turn them back on the same way.

In Word 2007 and 2010 you can press enter on the multi-level list button on the home tab. It will let you choose from all different kinds of bullets and various styles of outline numbering. You tab to demote an item and shift tab to bring an item out again. Using the headings method is great if you're going to insert text later, but it isn't really necessary if you just need a basic outline. Also, your fonts will be all different styles and sizes if you use headings to do this.

Rob,
I would be very careful in editing your built-in styles unless you really understand how to manipulate styles and templates.
Are you wanting to create an outline with a hierarchy such as I 1. i 1) etc.? Sorry but I don't know the correct outline order off the top of my head. If you do, then you simply choose numbered outline style on the format
menu.
The following refers to Word 2003, but the concepts are the same.
Taken from http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/create-an-outline-numbered-list- HP005186044.aspx
Create an outline numbered list
Applies to: Microsoft Office Word 2003
Print Show All Show All
An outline numbered list shows list items at different levels rather than indented at one level.
To demote the item to a lower numbering level, click a list number, and click Increase Indent Button image . . To promote the item to a higher numbering level, click a list number, and
click Decrease Indent Button image . list end nesting level 1 list end Jean

Looks as if one size may not fit all; no wonder it's so tricky. Slideshow works like a charm on some presentations, while with others tabbing from object to object, and using Say All on each, works better

Okay, Ann. I'm just trying to get the thing to read, and that ribbon thing was truly odd. Those shortcuts ought to be in the help file, but I'll certainly keep them around. Thanks.

In case you don't have this already, here is an address for keyboard shortcuts for PowerPoint.
Good luck!

When I took an office 2007 class I had this very same issue. When editing the pages or viewing them, don't use the preview within the program. Use the slideshow directly from the file and it avoids this issue. John

In light of yesterday's Power Point discussion, I was messing around last night with a file I happened to have on hand, but could never read for money marbles, or chalk. I rotated views, shrank, and enlarged, and finally, quite by accident, found a solution. If I engaged the Office ribbon menu, prior to invoking Say All, a slide would read perfectly.
Otherwise, it would go straight down to the bottom of the presentation, and emit a string of dings (imagine a vibraphone player doing a drum roll with his mallets), telling me it was hitting bottom over and over again. Does this sound as crazy to you guys as it does to me?

I missed that shortcut and didn't spot it when I looked back. Does it work with Word 2003? I just received a copy and am having trouble with the thesaurus. Also, if you know of a tutorial for 2003 I'd sure like to track it down. Using XP and JAWS 8. Thanks! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)"<Ted.Lisle@...> To: "The Jaws for Windows support list."<jfw@...> Sent: Thursday, February 23, 2012 4:58 AM Subject: RE: Creating an Outline in Word
Same here. I'm reasonably sure I never knew that shortcut. It also provides an easy way to get to the thesaurus, which has been a pain under 2007.

Anne,

If I were doing it.
Ted
Have fun!

I went straight from 2000 to 2007 at home. We had 2003 for several years here, but I think my thesaurus problems came with the ribbon. The App key definitely works in 2007.

Thanks to all for your assistance. I just needed a simple numbered outline for the assignment. Sorry if I didn't mention that before. Anyway, thanks everybody!

I think this has a simple answer, but I can't figure it out!
I have created an accessible PDF form in Acrobat that is used online in a browser. Once the cursor is IN the text area, JAWS reads everything very well. But I can't figure out how to get JAWS to tab INTO the actual PDF, it just tabs between the URL and other things at the top of the page in Firefox. How do I get it to jump into the actual document?
Thanks!
Susan
