Hi Judy,

Try taking a look at the website below for help with your situation.

Also, here's a couple of notes I saved to help my sighted wife post a new message on Next Door.  Next Door is as big a pain in the ass to sighted as it is to blindfolks.

From: mcLeod stinnett
From Mack i use a desktop computer and i am always logged in to next door. tell your wife to subscribe to the digest version, she will have an easier time of it.  just browse the posts, select the one she wants to read, she will be taken online, hit skip to main content. there you go. it's not the best website, but it is workable.

A couple more tips.  This will get you started.
Go to the main site.  Do a search for the word, General, and click on it to open it.
Then go to the top of the page, do another search for, General.
Tab or arrow once to, Add new, button. open that, and you will get a modal to post in. H t h

How to post to Nextdoor via the desktop website

1. Log in to
Nextdoor.

2. Click on the field that reads "Post a message, event, poll or alert to your neighborhood."
Find and select the post toolbar on your Nextdoor dashboard.

3. Click on the type of post that best corresponds to what you're trying to post, whether that be a message, event, poll, or urgent alert. For the purposes
of this guide, we are using the message type of post.
You can select from four post types on Nextdoor.

4. Click on "Choose a category." From the list that appears, click on the category that best corresponds to the topic of your post.
Categories help ensure your post reaches the right audience.

5. Type in a subject and the text of your message. When you're done, click "Visible to" and click on the option that best represents how visible or private
you want your post to be.
Enter a post subject and your message in their respective boxes.

6. If you want to add a photo or video to your post, click on "Add photo or video" and select the image or clip you want to attach.

7. When you are finished composing your post, click on the green "Post" button to publish it.
Click "Post" to publish to Nextdoor.

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.

Hi, all, I used to, say a year or so agao, be able to send a post to Next Door. I’m looking for a dog walker for my pet dog and wanted to post on there but it is impossible. I’ve tried different ways, going to “post a message” or “messages” and they want me to fill in the area I want it to go which I can’t seem to do. Has anyone had any luck with posting a message on there and if so, please let me know what you did and how you did it. Thanks so much in advance. Frustrated Judy & Libby

I have used both of these headsets. The microphones are not so sensitive as to pick up ambient sound. I have my microphone sensitivity in Zoom set to 100% with minimal noise suppression. Honestly, for me, the headset from A.T. guys has a microphone which gives my voice a louder volume than the one from Plantronics.

Why is your volume set as high as 80%? I mean, is your screen reader talking really loudly?

hi,

How well are these with ambient noise from your experience? Also, if computer volume is say about 80% does  microphone pick up the speech? I’ve purchased a few and return them which is why I wanted personal experiences. These companiesThese companies market nic noise cancellation and they don’t do well from my experience. Thank you

Edge opens as my default browser, and the message content always loads as a standard Edge webpage. In the Outlook message I can focus the “Click here…” suggestion link by tab/alt-tab as with any other link that may be included in the e-mail message body.

Greetings:

Actually, there are emails (typically newsletters or the like) which, in the body, have an explicit link which a person can activate the view the email as a web page. Then there are those emails which you would like to view as a web page which do not contain such a link but for which there is something on the Info bar which advises you to click there if you want to display the email as a web page. There are also emails that are coded in the HTML format but for which there is no explicit way to display the email in a web page. Each type requires a difference response from the nonvisual user.

The most extreme circumstance in which I view an email as a web page often requires me to save the message as an HTML file and then to open the saved file in my favorite browser.

As with everything else these days, there is more than one way to accomplish a specific task, and no one way is completely right or completely wrong. The solution you choose depends n your specific situation, your knowledge, and your confidence/proficiency with the technology you are using.

Warmly,

Hi, Brian. When I get the message saying, click here to view the message in your browser, it is just a notification, and there seems to be no way to click the link. There doesn't even seem to be a link when perusing the message. So there seems to be no way to actually look at the prompt to click here. I'm sure that, as a sighted person, there is some place that this prompt appears, but I know of no way of focusing on the prompt, or of finding the link that allows one to click and view the message in the browser.

I can't recall the last time I've actually done this either the sighted "point and click" method or with a screen reader, but I've done it enough that my observation is that activating that link should cause your default web browser to open with that page loaded (or at least loading, depending on how quick your internet is and how large what needs to be loaded).

Hi, Brian. The difference between the type of message which you sent to me, and the standard prompt that is received by JAWS as a screen reader is,

In the message you sent to me, the prompt does actually consist of a link. When the prompt is spoken by JAWS, it is actually coming from Outlook as an email client, and is more like a notification in an Info Bar. The prompt to view the email in the browser isn't even part of the email message, only a notification by Outlook as the email client.

JM,

This makes sense. However, sometimes developers produce scripts that work with more than one function. For example, Brian Hartung's Team script also works with Outlook. I didn't realize it until encountering his tutorial on his Outlook script, only to learn that you need to buy the Team script in order to have access to that useful-sounding Outlook script.

Still...the skype scripts would onlya ctivate if skype.exe was running. That's how jaws scripts "know" to be activated -- by matching the script with the name of the programme executable. So unless you are running skype and zoom at the same time, the skype scripts would not affect anything zoom, as they would not even be invoked at any time.

Hi, Steve. I only mentioned the Skype scripts and Doug Lee because this is something custom which I have on my system, and could affect the function of other software. By now, you should know that when a problem comes up, people want to know which versions of the operating system, screen reader, browsers, and email clients, as well as anything that is a custom setting or software on the machine involved. So your question:

Who said anything about Skype? Or Doug Lee, for that matter?

is unwarranted. I am only cooperating with the JAWS and Windows communities, giving them the information they might need to reproduce or figure out from where the problem might originate.

press Control plus Shift plus T in Zoom to hear the identity of the
currently speaking conference participant:

Unknown function call to ClearLastNotificationAppName

Of course, the function name is first spoken, then spelled.

I am not using any third-party or homebrewed scripts for Zoom--this is
straight outa-the-box JAWS. Works fine in 2021, best in 2020, all on
current Zoom, 5.10.4.5035.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Adrian. I'm not experiencing this unknown function call using the latest Skype scripts from Doug Lee with the latest JAWS, the latest version of Zoom, using Windows 10, latest build, on either of my two PC's, laptop and desktop. I'm wondering what may be different about Steve's machine that may be causing this behavior.

I believe Mario has posted several times about this function and the newly created defect in JAWS 2022.
