Re: [Bulk] Header reading in excel

Dave...

Tom,

Yes I do this every time I install a new version of JAWS since they mess
with the overall settings in the default configuration.

Start in any application
Settings Center/Configuration Manager
Ctrl+Shift+D for Default
Arrow or tab to Voice Aliases
Customize Voice Aliases Button
Arrow to Header (or press the letter h)
Modify Button

** Notice that the voice now being used is completely out of context with
reality, but FS never bothered to fix this **

Tab to Person Combo Box
Arrow to "current Voice" (the one I like)
Tab to Ok, then Ok, then Save

That should do it.

Using jaws 12 I am trying to find where I can modify the voice used when
jaws is reading column and row headers. By default it uses I think rocko
and I would like to just he normal voice.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks

Hi all,

Since upgrading from JFW6.2 to JFW11, I have found when using certain programs
namely, the SendSpace Wizard, when viewing folders in the remote browser folder
names are proceeded by, Jaws announcing "Graphics" then the folder name. This
occasionally happens in a couple of other programs as well. Otherwise, JFW11 is
working great. I am using Windows XP, I have checked the basic settings in
JFW11 without success , it's not a critical problem, just annoying, can anyone
help?

I recently purchased a new computer and JAWS 13. I had been using Word 2003in my old computer. I have been told that I can't use 2003in my new computer: That doing so would crash the computer. Is this so? And if true, is there a way around this dilemma? Unfortunately, the budget won't allow for a newer version. I would appreciate any advice someone could give me. Thanks a bunch. Colleen

Re: Help with jaws settings

Dondi

Hi Lori,

If you read through this procedure it will show you the option to silence
the keyboard. Just set the typing echo to off.

To silence the keyboard as you type the keys and have JAWS read the word
just typed when the space bar is pressed to go to the next word.

Insert+6 to open setting center.
Press control+shift+D to select the all applications default file to modify.
Type echo in the search edit box.
Arrow down to typing echo.
You should also hear a modifier spoken at the same time as typing echo.
Press space bar to cycle through the modifying choices for typing echo.
They are as follows:
1. Off. - The keyboard is silent.
2. Characters. - Every key is announced when pressed.
3. Words. - keyboard is silent, words are spoken after space bar is pressed.
4. Characters and words. - Every character and word is spoken.
Tab to apply and press space bar.
Alt+F4 to close setting center.

Hello, Colleen. I gather you are running windows 7. I don't know if Word
2003 will work on it or not, but one question is, what do you need to
achieve with Word? There is a free word processor called Jarte that lets
you do what most of us need to do withWord, so that might be a solution for
you. There's even a paid version, $20 or so, that gives it more capability.

Subject: New to the list

Hi All,

I recently purchased a new computer and JAWS 13. I had been using Word
2003in my old computer. I have been told that I can't use 2003in my new
computer: That doing so would crash the computer. Is this so? And if
true, is there a way around this dilemma? Unfortunately, the budget won't
allow for a newer version. I would appreciate any advice someone
could give me. Thanks a bunch. Colleen

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that I'm using JAWS 13 & Windows 7/64 bit.

Office 2003 professional is working fine on my machine.
