Re: amazon.com Jaws 11

Dave...

Hello Miriam,

Well put. I feel suitably chastised. So I'll give you my perspective.

There's a perfectly good training tool for learning how to use the web
called "Surf's Up" on the FS site and also in the help/web resources menu
from JAWS. I recommend that to anyone who has a need to learn basic
navigation on the web, like Insert+F7 to bring up a list of links.

I don't mind pointing people to that training tool and give advice on how to
navigate using JAWS. However I do draw the line when someone just whines
about not being able to do something on such-and-such a web site and hoping
that someone will jump in and tell them what to do -- problem is that the
originator has not told us specifically just what they are having trouble
with.

To wit, here's the original request, and please tell me what I should have
told him/her to do:

"I'm trying to order audio cd from amazon ,my cousin show me how to order
from amazom.com last week ago !! I have try to order audio cd but I forgot
how to do it!! Does anybody know how to tell me how to order audio cd from
amazon.com website? I really need your help to tell me how to do it with
jaws!! I'm using jaws 11,window xp desktop computer with home edition. I
will appreciate any help and answer from anybody."

Okay, I'll give you a hint. The question we need to actually answer is this
part:

"Does anybody know how to tell me how to order audio cd from
amazon.com website?"

The answer is either "No." or the answer I gave:

"Click on the item you want. Add to shopping cart. Go to checkout. Give them
your credit card."

Other than my additional snide comments, I thought my answer was eloquent
and precise. I certainly have no way to know what his/her cousin told
him/her to do, do I?

I'm new to this list. I am an older person and I've been using Jaws for a
long time and have never become a skilled user. So with that background,
I'd like to suggest that if someone doesn't know how to use Amazon, or
hasn't used a shopping site, or isn't comfortable doing it, and uses Jaws,
and asks the list for help, it seems to me that there might be a kind soul
on the list who would really try to help instead of embarrassing the person
for daring to ask and show his vulnerability.

Hi, Miriam.

Thank you for your thoughtful post. Dave is otherwise the most considerate
of listers, and you may have seen his later apology. Some listers can be on
a short fuse, and some listers have ways of lighting that fuse, but for the
most part people with questions get good answers in polite responses here.
I'd put Dave right up there among the most helpful posters. It would be sad
if this one lapse by this particular lister, of all people, were to
discourage anyone from benefiting from the wealth of advice freely given
here.

Keyboard Problem in JFW12 and 13

Engin Yilmaz <engin_yilmaz@...>

Hello everyone. my name is engin from turkey. We installed a keyboard layout called auttoman keyboard which is similar to arabic alphabet. Although there was no problem in jaws11 and prior versions, after jfw12 When I press a letter, JAWS say differen letters. for instance, When I pass to that keyboard layout with alt+shift and Press "a" for the first time, it says, "a", and the second time it says "b" like that.
is there any thing to do this to solve that problem?
any help would be very very important and good. thanks.

Contrition

Dave...

Sorry. I must have missed taking my medication. I seem to have sent out
several messages with a rather smarmy attitude, in particular to those that
have nothing to do with JAWS or to those whining about Sports Scores on
ResearchIt.

Once the medication takes effect I'm sure I'll settle down. Ah, it's already
working.

John,

Somehow the concept of adding a radio station to a playlist makes no sense
to me. It makes more sent to have favorite radio stations to choose from
,and local radio stations are available with the iPod and I suspect with
iTunes, as well to be added to a list of favorites.

As for the internet stations on iTunes via the computer, I suspect these
can
also be put into a list of favorites. I'll have to explore this a bit more
when I get the chance.

And now that I've gone completely away from anything relating to JAWS I'll
shut up.

Gee. it's really sort of simple, isn't it? Just like most shopping web

Why do you think we know what we can help you with? This is something you
have to figure out for yourself if you really want to get involved with

I went to the site you suggested and downloaded itunes 10.5.1. It has an
extention of .img. Attempting to install it, windows couldn't open it and
went to the web and found a program called paretologic health advisor. I
downloaded and installed that one. Running it went into some kind of a scan
which locked up jaws longer than i'd like to think what was happening to my
machine. I killed it. Now I'm about to say itumes ain't worth all this.

Hi,

I use iTunes with BlindTunes it's a script that allows you to move around
easier while using iTunes. Below are the links for iTunes which is free
it's
a Apple program for the Windows OS. I use it with Windows 7 and JAWS 12.
Below it is the link to BlindTunes so you can look it over, it's also
free.
It's just a script that JAWS run's.

iTunes when you get to the web page do a search for down as in download
and
you will go right to the download link for iTunes 10.5.

John,

Somehow the concept of adding a radio station to a playlist makes no sense
to me. It makes more sent to have favorite radio stations to choose from
,and local radio stations are available with the iPod and I suspect with
iTunes, as well to be added to a list of favorites.

As for the internet stations on iTunes via the computer, I suspect these can
also be put into a list of favorites. I'll have to explore this a bit more
when I get the chance.

And now that I've gone completely away from anything relating to JAWS I'll
shut up.

Ok John. It appears it used to be possible. Was looking for tips on recording Itunes stations. An older post on some forum said to add a station to a playlist then look at it's properties to find out the url so it could be opened directly in TR.
