Check out how Web pages are formatted in IE9 and Jaws 11, or just arrow up and down file listings to experience some oddness.

Re: ping

Bissett, Tom <tom.bissett@...>

Ping is what you do if you want to see if you have a connection to a particular computer. It is a little command line program you type into the command window followed by the ip address you are trying to reach. It will come back and tell you if it connected and long it took to connect.
In regards to the email the ping person wanted to see if their email was going through to the list. The pong response was a play on words, a bit of humour.

Tom Bisset

Hello there,

Well my HP laptop/notebook has 2 non tactile areas just below the screen and
to the far right which will 1. Mute all sounds and 2. Turn off wireless.
You have no hint that your finger has passover these areas unless you have
some sight and can see the blamed little green light which tells you that
all is well and you have sound as well as wireless.
These areas seem to be heat sensative which really adds to the confusion.

Hi,

It is possible that what you are doing is pressing the FN key and one
of the numeric keys. On all of my systems there is one of these
combos that will mute all sound. Depending on the system it is a
different combo.

If you have someone available with sight or can find the help that
describes all FN key combos for your system you might be able to find
the right one.

It is a toggle so you could use it to turn your sound back on when it
is off.

Hope this helps.

Sorry for the late response.

I seriously doubt that "banks too big to fail" are using effective risk management. IMO, such institutions only exist in present form due to political corruption, which is a "social risk" that is not being properly managed, but my perspective is anti-statist/anarcho-libertarian-populist, which is not exactly a "mainstream" value system. lol.

Please note that the history of bank-government corruption includes the entire edifice of Mercantilism during the colonial period, and the complicity of Wall Street in the Slave Trade. In fact, one of the main reasons that the Virginia Planters supported the New England Whig Revolutionaries in the American Revolution was that the Virginians were tired of being ripped off by London Banks!

Anyways.....
The original issue/context was educational institutions using JAWS 13 with "incompatible" software (SPSS). In that context, the institution has the option of legally complying with accessibility requirements (in order to minimize exposure to liability) by providing more expensive "alternative" accommodations, such as a sighted assistant, until a new version of JAWS and/or SPSS is available that is accessible.

FW has stated that they intend to make JAWS 14 compatible with SPSS (presumably the most recent version).

You might have problems with JAWS 12 and Microsoft Office 2010.

JAWS 12 is great. JAWS 13 not so much.
Been using Windows 7 for about 7 months.
Boots and shuts down much, much faster than did XP.

Our school just switched to Windows 7 and I was wondering how JAWS 12 works with it?
Thank you!

Hello there;

Just a little more about the mute;
On on the later versions of the dell, laptops,
I've found the mute key, just to the right of the f12 key.

Hello there;

Well, first thanks for the kind words.
I assume, your most likely pressing a key combination, which turns/mute the
sound.
This is a toggle so, one press mutes, another press returns the sound. What
you need to do is,
Find out what the keystroke is, the keystroke is, fn-key+another key.
What kind of laptop are you using?

Hello there;
Is it possible you muted the sound completely?

If your using windows 7,

1, after you've booted the computer,
Wait a little bit for desktop to load.

2, now press,
Windows+r=run,
Type in:
sndvol
Press enter,
Tab once, press the spacebar,
This should unmute the sound.
If your using xp,
Same steps apply, except, in the run dialog,
Type in:
sndvol32

Hello all,
Periodically, I must hit a combination of key strokes which then shuts off
all sounds on my computer. I know there is a mute and un-mute key
combination, but I cannot remember it. What is also really odd though is
that even if I shut off my computer and reboot it is still silent. Odd for
sure
help please! I'm using JAWS 13 on a laptop.
thanks
Dee
