Hello and welcome.
I've had that issue where the text is inserted into a different place after I was proof reading also, but I just assumed it was me not making sure where my cursor was

I have actually had this issue in MS word as well. Sometimes I will be
typing a particular paragraph and then when I go to proof read it half of a
sentence is in the middle of another sentence.

Hi and thanks for the response.
As for the cursor issues for example when doing any online shopping
after selecting item and adding to basket the site takes you to another
page before automatically going back to the original page only to find
the cursor is anywhere but where you left it.
Now comes writing .
On writing emails if I wished to arrow one line above to read or check
something on down arrowing the line below has scrambled all the words
and on long mails can misplace parts of paragraphs..
I have lost count of aborted messages because of this.
Hope this explains in more details.
Take care

Hello to all you Jaws users.
I have just joined the group and wonder how things are coming along with the issue of the Jaws cursor moving all over the place .
I have used Jaws for some time and at present using version 13 on Windows 7 but this aspect of the software is driving me crazy at times.
Are the latest versions any better as before spending out more money I need to know if this has been taken into account .
Another very annoying thing is when you are writing anything and arrow up to re read the words can be scrambled in which you have to abandon and start again.
Surely software at high cost should have undertaken to assure these basic functions work well.
Yes we have tried other screen readers but these have proved not to our taste at all.
I hope to hear some positive feedback.
Take care

I've got a wireless mouse at home, which is always within easy reach but not in the direct line of fire. However, my office mouse is a standard corded variety, and has been dropped, jarred, and bumped for who laid the rail, but never caused that kind of havoc.

This can be caused by your mouse. My desktop I always keep the mouse unplugged. On my laptop I have a cover over the mouse pad, or whatever it is called. So when I get in trouble and need my wife to bail me out, she dcan plug in the mouse or flip the cover over on the laptop.
This solved my problems, and I do write a lot.

Re: new member

David Greene <revdgreene@...>

Hi Hazel.
I don't know that I have the answer for you, but I have had a Toshiba laptop
and I am now on my third Dell laptop and I have had the same problem with
all four of them with the curser jumping all over the place.

The keyboard on all my laptops were configured in the following way.
1. A small round button between and at the bottom of the G & H key's.
2. Below the space bar a right and left mouse click buttons.
3. Below those buttons the touchpad.
4. Below the touchpad, another right and left mouse click buttons.

Now, this is where it gets interesting. On the touchpad and that little
button between the G & H key's, if tapped, have the same effect as a mouse
click resulting in your curser being sent where ever.
In the touchpad settings, there are several options of which features to
turn off or on.
On some of my laptops, I have had to have sighted assistance to properly set
these features.

On one of my laptops the vibration of typing on the keyboard would activate
the mouse button.
May I suggest that you open a new document, type a sentence, know where your
curser is and double tap the mouse pad and see if your curser has changed
locations.
If you are using an external keyboard, all the above do not apply.
If you are not using an external keyboard, you could give that a try.

Have you checked your display settings?
Have you contacted Jaws support?

I am convinced that there is a fix for this problem. On the positive side,
it produces patience.

You would have thought by now Freedom Scientific could have managed to solve these annoying problems as Jaws is used far more than any other screen reader in open industry.
Many moons ago I used a software called Guide which I thank for getting me up and running on a computer , very basic but this did not scrabble words , in fact it was brilliant for writing documents and the only reason we dumped it was the fact it was useless on the web and emailing.

Sometimes, its not the cursor, but a moving mouse on the site your trying to use.

Love the MS-word 2007 because it just decides to corrupt files (and back ups) when ever it likes!

Goodness, I must have been lucky! I know that some JAWS problems can be machine- or BIOS-specific. This Dell, for instance, doesn't support alternate Say All--not that that's a huge problem in a professional environment, but it's a fact, nonetheless.

or doing a JAWS find to look for specific words. I also extensively use the

My major complaint with web pages (I use IE 8) is that focus still like to
get caught in the address/toolbar area of the IE page.

I have just joined the group and wonder how things are coming along with
the issue of the Jaws cursor moving all over the place .
I have used Jaws for some time and at present using version 13 on Windows
7 but this aspect of the software is driving me crazy at times.
Are the latest versions any better as before spending out more money I
need to know if this has been taken into account .
Another very annoying thing is when you are writing anything and arrow up
to re read the words can be scrambled in which you have to abandon and
start again.
Surely software at high cost should have undertaken to assure these basic
functions work well.
Yes we have tried other screen readers but these have proved not to our
taste at all.
I hope to hear some positive feedback.
Take care
Hazel

Cynthia Bruce

I have actually had this issue in MS word as well. Sometimes I will be typing a particular paragraph and then when I go to proof read it half of a sentence is in the middle of another sentence.

Dave...

Agree, that we should first make sure that the hardware is not part of the
problem. A touchpad can react to a very slight contact by a finger or even a
shirtsleeve.
