Re: Does putting JAWS to sleep interrupt tandem?

Mike B. <mb69mach1@...>

Hi Ann,

As long as you are the controlling computer, the 1 who gives the access
number, you should be able to do what you are wanting. When you mute Jaws
on his computer he is the only 1 that won't be able to hear Jaws. You're
actually using your own Jaws & speakers when you're the controlling computer
in a Tandem session.

Let's say you need to look at something on your computer, like look at a
note or something, you can invoke the keystroke insert, alt, + tab, & this
will switch you between your computer & the Tandem session. Hope this
helps. Take care.

I want to do a tandem session with a student who is using the APH
talking typer program. If I put JAWS to sleep on his computer, does
that shut down the tandem session? He can use insert+spacebar, then
s; but it would be easier if I could just set the JAWS speech
automatically to sleep through the typing lesson. After all, if the
student knows how to type, he can turn off JAWS himself. But then he
wouldn't need typing lessons.

why not just download it and try it?

Hi, Anne.
How about using Ins+2 on the number row to turn key echo off? Make sure
it's set to "none", and JFW won't echo what's being keyed in. When you want
what is being said to be echoed back, use Ins+2 again to toggle through to
what the student prefers--characters, words, both chars and words, or none.
HTH,
Dani

Dave...

Image for Windows works well, and some have used Acronis. I just copy my
critical data files to my solid state drive and also to DVD media every
couple weeks, and back up my work computer to my studio computer a couple
times a week.

Try Googling "automatic file backup" and you should get a whole bunch of
hits.

Hello;

Okay,
Here's the steps I take to rip a cd, or, to rip just 1, or, 3 or, whatever
your wanting to do.

1, place cd into drive close drawer,
Music should start to play, if windows media is your default player.

2, ctrl+s=stop,

3, ctrl+1=library,
Now I up arrow until I hear;
Playlist opened,

4, I now tab until I hear;
The name of the cd, and the tracks,
So, I make sure that all the track are not selected, Now, I arrow and check
the track or tracks I wish to rip,
Note if you want to rip the whole CD, do nothing,
Go to next step

5, I now press ctrl+3, and tab and enter on the rip button.

Hope this helps.

My library said that if I am burning for just my listening enjoyment
it is OK. So can anyone tell me the steps for window media player,
without the moral commentary?

for the past week or more, I kept getting a message alerting me to a
problem
with Adobe Flash Player update. It offered no explanation or solution. I'm
surprised no one else has posted about this.

This evening I decided to uninstall AFP and reinstall from the website.
However, add/remove programs provided a link to AFP update support. From
this, I learned that as of current version 11.3, AFP has revised its
update
options. One is now to have updates installed without the user being
alerted. I expect this will spare us that annoying update alert with the
unlabeled buttons.

It turned out that in order to install 11.3, I had to uninstall the
existing
version after all.

The installation process required some switching between windows with
alt-tab and some reading with the JAWS cursor. JAWS does not pick up that
new information has been added on a screen or that a new window has opened
with critical information or choices, so you have to actively look for it.
Note also that Adobe tells you to run, not save, the program and to click
on
run a second time when the security message alert comes on.

Here is the link to the products update page:
<http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer/>
http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer/

Note. Adobe recognized that I was running IE. I don't know how this
installation will affect or work with Firefox, which I also have.

Does putting JAWS to sleep interrupt tandem?

Ann Byrne

I want to do a tandem session with a student who is using the APH talking typer program. If I put JAWS to sleep on his computer, does that shut down the tandem session? He can use insert+spacebar, then s; but it would be easier if I could just set the JAWS speech automatically to sleep through the typing lesson. After all, if the student knows how to type, he can turn off JAWS himself. But then he wouldn't need typing lessons.

Re: cd rippping and burning software

Jon Pierson <joncpierson@...>

Hi William,
I hope the below helps.

Jon

Assuming that you've only got one drive that can burn CDs and that you're
going to burn a CD-R, then to burn a CD:

1. Set any options, as described in the previous section.
2. Insert a blank CD. If you want to check that you've inserted a blank CD,
move to the CD burner at the bottom of the Library tree, and it should read
Blank Disc.
3. To add one or more items in the Primary list view to the Burn list,
select the items, and then choose Add to Burn list from the shortcut menu.
Note that
you can add any type of item in the Primary list view: for example if you
add an playlist, then all the tracks in the playlist are added to the Burn
list.
4. The time/space remaining on the disc is displayed at the top of the List
pane, but this is inaccessible to Jaws users. Also, if the list takes up
more
than one CD, then the list is automatically split into a number of CDs.
However, this splitting is again not accessible to Jaws users. Which only
leaves
mental arithmetic.
5. If necessary you can edit the Burn list in the List pane. If you select
one or more tracks in this list, from the shortcut menu you can either
remove
the track(s) from the list, or move the track(s) up or down the list. To
sort the list, press the Burn list button, and choose an option from the
sort
sub-menu.
6. To burn the CD, press the Start Burn button (ALT + S) at the bottom of
the List pane.
7. Microsoft recommend that you don't use the computer for any other task
during burning a CD. Some of the information indicating the progress of
burning
the CD is accessible to Jaws, but as that involves the computer in another
task, it's probably best just to wait till the CD is ejected.

Ok i won't ask, even though Nero has been accessible since version 5.
I could upgrade to eleven, but with your oh so helpful post about it,
I'm not sure now.

If your cd collection is getting old and you may encounter errors,
Exact Audio Copy (EAC for short) is free, accessible, and has the

Beware though that this is not a click twice and walk away type

learning to get the best results.

pressing enter and it should work.
To rip, put your CD into your computer, wait for the auto play menu to come
up and chose the "rip music from CD using windows media player" option.
Press enter on that and it will automatically rip. If you put subsequent cds
after the first cd that you want to rip to your computer, then don't close
windows media player once your first CD has successfully riped. Each new cd
will automatically start ropping after the first one has been roped to your
library.
To find the files you've riped from your D, go to your music folder.
Sometimes it will be under the unknown artist folder since the cds will not
be titled properly.
Hope this helps.

Re: cd rippping and burning software

Chris Smart <csmart8@...>

you know that copying those CD's from the library is illegal right?
If you get a copy of iTunes and the free scrips called Blindtunes, from www.blindtunes.net, you can buy all the music you want, either individual tracks or whole albums, burn coppies for yourself etc.
