Re: Google Chrome

Gary King

Before installing an application on your computer, you can see if it is officially supported by JAWS by going to JAWS Help Topics. If you don't land on the Contents Page, Control Tab until you reach this page. Use Down-Arrow until you get to the Popular Applications with JAWS Book, and Right-Arrow to open it. Go down through all of the applications that are officially supported by JAWS. These applications are the only ones that will have specially defined Hot Keys.

Other applications may work with JAWS if they have standard controls that JAWS can access and are written with accessibility in mind, but there still won't be any special hot keys or JAWS Help for these programs. Pressing JAWS Key q will tell you if any scripts or special configurations are being used while a program is running. With programs that are not officially supported by JAWS, you will likely hear: "Default settings are loaded," when pressing this key combination.

Re: I'm having problems with the latest version of firefox and typing inuser names and passwords!

Lee Maschmeyer

When did this start happening? Is it recent or longstanding?

In case it started with the newest update to Jaws, it's very important (and very easy to overlook) to destroy your personal Jaws scripts folder whenever you update. This allows Jaws to make use of all the new files in the update. If you have old files hanging around Jaws silently uses these which means you end up with a partial update which can lead to version mismatches.

What folder am I talking about? Mine, on Windows 7, is: c:\users\lmaschm\AppData\roaming\Freedom Scientific\Jaws\14.0. I destroy the 14.0 part, and of course lmaschm is my personal ID.

In case this step has been skipped, it's very easy to recover from the error. Just destroy the 14.0 folder and recreate everything using the Jaws utilities.

HTH,

I'm having problems with the latest version of firefox and typing in user names and passwords!

David Ingram

Hi list members, I seem to be having problems when I'm using Firefox especially when I'm entering in user names and passwords. I don't know why I'm having this problem or how I can fix it. What even makes this problem worse is when I think I've gone to the right web page I hear something different than what I should. This usually happens when I try to use webmail. I don't remember it happening when I go to other places but one thing that I found out and that is if anyone happens to subscribe to privacyguard, you'll have to use internet explorer in order to do things. Thank you for any information that you might have.

Hi all,

seems the list of fixes does not include Firefox crashing on pages with Flash enabled, or when trying to play videos on Youtube.
So this bug is still present I suppose, even with the latest FF 23.

Nermin

Some pretty important fixes in this one, too. They've restored the
autocomplete reading when in Internet Explorer. I used to down arrow
twice at the e-mail field and it would fill it in. IE still does this,
but the previous build of Jaws just wouldn't read it. There are a few
other things in it that have to do with Outlook and Excel. In order to
find these enhancements, you need to go to the main page and then to
the latest build page, then click on enhancements.

Re: Latest Jaws 14.0.5005 Update Download Links

One thing I noticed is that there seems to be some kind of invisible EOF at the end of default.jss. I added my scripts to the end of the file like always but they wouldn't show up in Keyboard Manager or in the Ctrl+L list of scripts in Script Manager. Taking what I thought would be an innocuous shot in the dark I stuck in a */ which I thought would be ignored to close any open comments. It did cause an error and I removed it, but my scripts started showing up as expected.

IM clients

Nimz, Jason <Jason.Nimz@...>

Hello!

I am trying to find a JAWS/ XMPP compliant IM client. We currently use Spark Instant Messenger, and have tested Instant Bird, and Pidgeon, with little to no success. Spark, and Pidgin will all login but will not narrate a chat message. Instant Bird will not connect at all, with the same settings configured as the other two clients. Currently, I am getting a "SSL Handshake Failed" message when I attempt to login with InstantBird.

I'm new, and a question

Brandon Tyson Tyson <brandongold98@...>

Hi List,

My name is Brandon and I'm new to this list. Recently I have been
going between JAWS and the free NVDA screen reader. Recently I was
shown how to make JAWS act more how NVDA does and I quite like it.

On a different note, I am developing a sapi4 speech synthesizer
using some tools available in the sapi4 SDK. I am trying to detect
this voice in the JAWS sapi4 detect dialog. It can see it, but as
there isn't really a voice name exposed (which I cannot change), JAWS
will not add the voice to the profile list in JAWS 14, making it
useless with JAWS. Do you have any pointers on how to make this voice
work with JAWS so I don't have to switch to NVDA to test it each time
I update it?

Thanks very much for your time and I look forward to a response.

Sincerely,

Brandon

You may have told Firefox in the past accidentally not to remember the password. My only advice to try is to have Firefox delete all the passwords and start over.

Thank you.

Hi folks. I'm using jaws 9 pro and firefox 22.0. The problem I'm having is when I enter a password for a banking site, it used to ask me whether or not I wanted to save the password or not. I would give a list of different options.
Now it doesn't. Has anyone else had this issue and does anybody have any suggestions? Anything helpful would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
