JAWS and ChromeVox

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

As has been mentioned on this list, none of the screen readers do all that well with Google Docs. Google has its own screen reader, sort of, called ChromeVox. Actually, it is an add-on to Chrome.
Yesterday, for the first time ever, I was able to review and edit a Google Docs document. I used ChromeVox. The interaction between ChromeVox and JAWS was rough at times, and I wouldn't endorse the solution as being ready for prime time.
Nevertheless, I just saw on the ChromeVox Website that there are some JAWS scripts that help JAWS and ChromeVox play more nicely together.
Anyone on this list ever used these scripts; used JAWS with ChromeVox; or ever got JAWS to work in Google Docs?

Hi Naomi,
I've seen this happen occasionally depending upon whether the windows are
maximized and how word wrap is set.
I'd next look at video driver updates after that.

Hi all,

A colleague of mine has a jaws problem; her jaws is repeating whole
paragraphs when she presses insert and 2 for say all. She has the latest
version of jaws.

Is this maybe due to a glitch in the update?

Also in Microsoft outlook, when typing in the to edit field, her contacts
aren't coming up for some reason. Usually when we type a letter, all the
contacts starting with it are listed but it isn't working.

Any help would be appreciated, as we are very frustrated and cannot work it
out.

Thank you

Re: Jaws repeating everything

Adrian Spratt

No one else has reported these two problems, so I doubt they are the result
of the latest update to version 13. If they started after you or your
colleague downloaded that update, did anything out of the ordinary happen
during installation? It may be that a JAWS repair is called for.

I don't have an answer for the repeated paragraph issue, but could you
clarify in case someone else does? Are you saying that during "say all,"
JAWS reads a paragraph, then repeats it before going to the next, then
repeats that one, and so on? Have you or your colleague tried "say all" in
more than one document to ensure it isn't caused by some code embedded in a
problem document?

On the Outlook contacts question, perhaps you or your colleagues needs to
check that automatic completion is checked. I think this option is found in
tools, options. There may also be an item in the JAWS settings dialog, which
is reached by pressing insert+v. (Substitute caps lock for insert if this is
a laptop.)

Re: word 2010 and jaws 13

The line spacing piece may be in the insert-v dialog.
Under 'editing options' is 'line and paragraph detection'. That wants to be turned off.
Remember that you can make quick settings changes either temporary or permanent with the applications menu.

At 02:59 PM 7/17/2012, you wrote:
Tom:

I actually do not remember a setting for announcement of line spacing.
This is just a guess, but I think it may be that what you are hearing is the announcement of styles.
If you press insert plus the (for verbosity), scroll through the list and make sure that no styles are being announced.
What may be happening is that as you scroll through from line to line, as you hit lines with different styles, you may be hearing the styles. Those style names may be something like "held that a cut 10 point double space"
another way to check is to highlight two or three lines that you don't care about. Then, press control plus shift plus the letter in. That should apply the "normal" style.
As you arrow through the lines with in that block of text, you should hear "normal" when you first enter it; however, you should hear nothing until you exit that block of text. Then, you will resume hearing style changes.
Again, I am just guessing, but I have styles turned on, and sometimes people name their styles in a peculiar way.

Re: word 2010 and jaws 13

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

Tom:
This is very odd.

Hi Ed, well I followed your instructions and selected the classic scheme. Jaws is still announcing the font changes and the line spacing.
I also ran a jaws repair, check my user folder for any classic schemes I may have made. There were none.
I am really puzzled because I did understand about schemes and had tried different ones.
When I look at the classic scheme I do see that they have just gone for the default in most cases so it shouldn't be announcing the font and line spacing.
Any other thoughts?

If you press insert plus alt plus the letter S, you should get a list of schemes. Just pick the "classic" scheme.
You are probably on a scheme that is announcing attributes and/or fonts.
The plane "classic" is at the bottom of the list of schemes that start with the word "classic."
Best wishes.

Dave and everyone:

Last week, I purchased a 128 GB solid state drive, to replace the existing
160 GB mechanical system drive in my computer. I am currently using Windows
XP Professional and I am using JAWS 13 on this particular machine.

After I had installed the new drive, I used Image for Windows to copy the
existing system information, including the partition information, drive
information and all the files and folderrs, from the existing hard drive to
the new SSD, having first checked the boxes in Image for Windows to resize
the partition to the smaller capacity size of the SSD.

I then shut down the computer, disconnected the original system drive and
restarted the computer, bootinf from the new SSD.

Everything went perfectly, Windows started as I hoped and expected, with the
exception that I had to reauthorize JFW, because JFW detected that the drive
brahd, type and size had changed.

The entire process, took no more than an hour. Compare that with having to
install a new installation of Windows, installing and configuring all the
software and making sure that Windows XP was set to work best with JFW.
Needless to say, it would have taken several hours over several days, weeks
or months, to get my system back to its original state.

With the new SSD, Windows starts a little faster but, the main difference I
am noticing, is the speed at which programs are starting, the speed at which
files are saved, copied and moved around the SSD drive.

HTH

Sincerely:

Dave Durber

Image for Windows works well, and some have used Acronis. I just copy my
critical data files to my solid state drive and also to DVD media every
couple weeks, and back up my work computer to my studio computer a couple
times a week.

Try Googling "automatic file backup" and you should get a whole bunch of
hits.

Mike,

Have you first considered whether other backup software will work with your
hardware? Rather than buying a new drive with some other OEM backup
software.

cannot set most settings with jfw. Is there another small 20g or bigger
drive & software that will work better for auto back ups with jfw.

Thanks
