The person who you give remote access to can use your computer like he was
in front of your computer or the person who owns the computer can show the
person who has remote access what he is doing with his computer like showing
a developer an issue you may have with his software so he can better
understand the issue. I have done this in 2013.
In my case they called me by phone while they had remote access. We
communicated by telephone.

Michael,
Am I correct in thinking that while you can hear a person speaking, you
can't interact with anything on the screen since the display is graphical?
If this is the case, then you wouldn't get much out of an interactive
demonstration. I haven't actually tried Go To Meeting.

Shortcut Keys for MS Office

Gary King

One way of finding shortcut keys for Microsoft Office applications is to go to:

www.microsoft.com/enable

From this page, you can locate the version of MS Office you are using and the particular application of interest. You can access links to display the shortcut keys for a particular procedure or to show all shortcut keys for an application.

Re: Jaws 15 saying dot instead of period

Dave Durber

Kimber:

I think that JAWS is interpreting the Word Paragraph symbol following the period, in the same way as it has been programmed, when the period is followed by an alphabetical character, e.g. .com, .exe, etc.

Try putting a space character after the period at the end of the paragraph, then pressing the ENTER key, then read the paragraph. If JAWS says "period", then you should let FS know about this problem.

Hi Ted and all,

Ted has hit on exactly the scenario in which the dot vs period
announcement issue occurs.

In Word 2003 using Jaws 15, Jaws reads the period as a dot when the
punctuation occurs at the end of a paragraph,
that is immediately before a paragraph symbol. If however, I insert a
space before the paragraph symbol, Jaws reads the punctuation as
period just as it should.

In notepad the period is read correctly all the time, which makes
sense I guess because there are no paragraph indicators in notepad
documents. Am I right about that?

In any case, I will report this issue to FS. Thanks to everyone for
helping me figure it out so I may report it accurately.

I followed your suggestion about changing the period in the customize
punctuation area of setting center. Interestingly enough, the
description
contained there says period and not dot. In fact I am seeing this same
strange misannouncement in word 2010 with jaws 15 on my office computer
too.
So it isn't specific to the version of word I am running at home.

On 1/27/14, Soronel Haetir <soronel.haetir@...> wrote:
An easier way is to bring up the settings center (jaws+6), switch to

If the text has been replaced somewhere else the dictionary is
probably your best bet.

Hi All,

I recently installed Jaws 15 on my laptop running Word 2003. I find
that instead of saying "period" at the end of a sentence, Jaws 15 is
saying "dot." This is really annoying.

Is there some way to change what Jaws says from dot to period when it
encounters the punctuation? Incidentally, when I type a period Jaws
15 says period.

Thanks,
Kim

I can't tell you with certainty which version it started with, but I think it was 13, and Word 2010.

Hi Ted and all,

Ted has hit on exactly the scenario in which the dot vs period
announcement issue occurs.

In Word 2003 using Jaws 15, Jaws reads the period as a dot when the
punctuation occurs at the end of a paragraph, that is immediately
before a paragraph symbol. If however, I insert a space before the
paragraph symbol, Jaws reads the punctuation as period just as it
should.

In notepad the period is read correctly all the time, which makes
sense I guess because there are no paragraph indicators in notepad
documents. Am I right about that?

In any case, I will report this issue to FS. Thanks to everyone for
helping me figure it out so I may report it accurately.

So it isn't specific to the version of word I am running at home.

Does anyone know if Go To Meeting works with JAWS? If not, do you know of a
web conferencing package that works better? Thanks!

Re: Shutting Down JAWS 15 on a laptop

Sure, on any laptop there is an insert key. It is usually not very
conveniently located for some key combinations, so the caps lock key is
usually used as another "JAWS" key.

So either answer is correct. By now, I suspect the technician has either
turned JAWS off by launching it and turning it off, or thrown the laptop out
a 4-story window.

On the desktop, it is insert f4 but on the laptop it will be capslock f 4.

Subject: Shutting Down JAWS 15 on a laptop

A technician has my laptop right now and I need to know does insert+F4
keystroke will shut off JAWS speech temporarily for him. I have been using a
USB wireless Keyboard so I am not sure if insert+F4 keystroke combination is
the same for a laptop as it is for a desktop keyboard when it comes to
shutting off JAWS speech output.
Thank you.
