Hi Stephen,
I called Vispero, who confirmed the extension is broken with NVDA and JAWS. The agent helping me said it looks like a Chrome update, or an update to the Wordle extension broke accessibility with multiple screen readers. She advised trying the following link, while the extension is running. https://www.possiblepromise.com/wordle
After configuring the 3 JAWS settings for this page, everything worked perfectly. The problem is that the game on that page doesn’t appear to be synced with the NY Times page (e.g. yesterday’s word was already on the NY Times page.
The person at Vispero asked if I had contacted the developer of the extension; I hadn’t at that point, but have since posted a review in the Chrome Web Store, and sent an E-mail to the publisher via the Chrome Web Store. Although there are 836 users of the extension, mine was the only review. Perhaps others might submit a review and/or send a message to the publisher, in order to bring attention to the problem.

Hi List
I’ve also found this issue with Wordle and in my case nothing to do with Jaws updates. Tried with two browsers and two screen readers. Any solutions appreciated, however I think something must have changed on the site to break the extension.

From: main@jfw.groups.io <main@jfw.groups.io> On Behalf Of Katrina Anderson
I updated JAWS 22 this morning so have the latest running on my Windows 10 laptop. I wonder if something in the JAWS update negatively impacted the Wordle Chrome extension, because everything worked perfectly last night, prior to the update, but sadly that is no longer the case.
I confirmed the “Make Wordle Accessible” extension is added to Chrome, and that it is enabled. However, when on the New York Times Wordle page, JAWS doesn’t report that it is active (can’t recall the exact wording of that). I confirmed the 3 JAWS settings for that page are properly set. I tried many different things like disabling the extension and then enabling it, removing the extension and adding it again, unloading JAWS and reloading it, restarting the computer, etc. No success!
Any thoughts as to what is happening? I guess I can call, but thought I’d check here first.

options with text in outlook
Andrew J. LaPointe
Hello, I noticed lately that when typing text in outlook, Jaws or something
recommends the word and in most cases is the correct spelling. How do I just select what it is suggesting? I had hit enter in the past but, didn't add it to the message. The same goes with word, If I go to the application menu and go to synonym, that works if I hit enter but,if I go to the antonymn menu, it doesn't take what I select... why is that? Follow these steps:
If using the laptop keyboard layout your modifier key is the Shift Lock. On a desktop keyboard layout, to get to the system tray, use the Jaws/Insert key on the numpad and press F11. Arrow down and see what is in the system tray.
Another problem you could be having is a need to run a Disk Cleanup for there could be a lot of stuff that has been accumulating on your hard drive that you don’t need.
To runDisk Cleanup go to your Start Menu and type Disk Cleanup and press enter. Go through the checkboxes and wherever you see numbers of files that have accumulated, make sure that the checkbox is check. Tab over to run the disk cleanup and follow the prompts. This will help.

Re: Question on how too add a book too my wish list using my computer.

An alternative way is to install the Bard express app on your computer. After you have configured it you have a number of options to select the title you want and then it is just a matter of checking the book end then tab to add it to the wish list. Once you do that go to your phone and go to get books where you will see the wish list end the book will be there ready for download. For me this method is easier to navigate than the website.

If an apps are pinned to your task bar they will be in an order. You should press windows key plus T to go to the task bar and then use your right arrow to go through them in order. I just looked at my task bar and Word is in the third position. I can launch Word from anywhere by pressing windows key plus 3. You should only pin those items you use most frequently since you can only use numbers 1 through 9. I have Word, Chrome, and Out look pinned to my task bar. Quite often your computer comes with apps already pinned to the task bar. If you don’t want those apps on the task bar you can unpin them. To do this go to your task bar and find the app you want to unpin. Press your application key or shift f10 and arrow down until you find “unpin” and press enter. That will change the number of all the apps that are pinned after it. I gave the example that Word is Windows 3 so if I unpin the app that is in the second position Word will move to that position and I will use windows key 2. I am sure this explanation is confusing so if you want to talk instead of emailing you can send me an email at marianne@....

If you have folder shortcuts on the desktop you don't get the Pin to Taskbar in the context menu option.
How you can get around this if you have a folder shortcut that you want to pin to the Taskbar, try the following: 1. Highlight the desktop icon and press, Alt + Enter, to open the icon's properties.
2. When you open the icon's properties you'll be on the Shortcut page in the, Target field, and you want to add what's below, but read what's below character by character because you must include the space in what you type in. explorer . That's the word, explorer , followed by a space .

This is an issue you should take up with Freedom Scientific. I have noticed myself that if an Outlook message is of the complicated web page variety, JAWS will take a few seconds to go through it and then convert the view to a virtual one. There is a link on BARD that you can press enter on when you are looking at the full description of the book.
So if you see a book in recent uploads that you want to put on your wish list, press enter on the title. Towards the bottom, after the description of the book, there are links to download it and to put it in your wish list.

Can someone try the following and see if you get the same reaction?
4. Repeat step#1 and arrow dow the list. Do those characters speak twice So instead of Number, the character itself, Then number, the text name, Then none, the mode, I get the character announced twice, then the text name, then the mode, such as, Number number number none At at at none Dollar dollar dollar none Percent percent percent none And and and none
Anyone else get this?
Thanks, Dennis T. Brown

As far as I can tell I don’t have anything pinned to the taskbar; I’m still not sure how to get to the system trey though…

One way is to tab to it—you should hear taskbar.
Ok, then tell us what applications are in your system tray and what is pinned to the taskbar.
You don’t answer my questions people on this list may not be able to help.

Okay, howdo I find out what apps are pinned to my taskbar and which apps are in the system trey? Sorry but I’ve never done anything with either other then setting Jaws to not run from the system trey

Maddison,
Can you tell us what programs are being loaded in the System Tray?
Also, can you tell us what programs do you have pinned to your Taskbar?
It might be that you have unnecessary programs in the System Tray that you don’t need running and too many programs that are pinned to the Taskbar.

Hi all, I’ve noticed that sometimes when I open a message that Jaws goes silent but yet when I arrow through it the contents still show up on my braille display; any idea what could be causing this and what I could do to resolve this? It happens randomly which makes it weirder and harder to know when it’ll happen. Using latest versions of Jaws, Microsoft 365 and Windows 11. Madison |
