Re: Using iCloud with Jaws

Yes, I agree. In some respects, I am a little surprise, especially since
the iPhone really caters to the visually impaired. iTunes does work right
out of the box with Jaws, even though there is a script that makes it more
user friendly. I would have expected that iCloud would have been more
accessible as well. I think iCloud is a great idea but it has it
limitations without being able to use it with Jaws.

Hi List,

I am using Jaws 14, latest build on a Windows 7, 64 bit computer.

Is anyone having any success editing contacts using iCloud. I can do the
changes on the iPhone, but would find it much easier and faster if I could
make those changes on my computer.

I can get to the tabs if I route jaws to the pc with the insert key and the
minus key on the number keypad. Then I have to use the left mouse button to
click the contact tab to view the names and numbers on my iPhone.

What I have not yet figured out, is how to do the editing and save the
changes. Jaws and iCloud do not seem to be compatible or at least, easily
compatible.

I would like to hear from anyone who is able to do the editing from their
computer even if it requires getting some other software to make those
changes.

Any help would be appreciated.

Voice recorder cards can hold a series of short messages, the kind which usually make up contest exchanges, but I was really being facetious, implying that contacts will be made with no operator intervention--tell your radio to go to it, and spend your weekend doing something else.

George,
I love your sense of humor, we would nock each other out with our Sarcasms
but you would have the advantage seeing as I cannot hear or see lol.
I set the capslock ke up on the mac a while back but I do not remember how I
did it, hints why I am the windows trainer and not the mac trainer for Blind
Access Training lol. I know how to use the mac though, just do not train on
it due to time constraints.
To answer your question, I'm ok, but seen better days lol. Don't' ask,
unless we take it off list peace sailor!
Now...? what does any of this have to do with Jaws? Just thought I would
take your life line, so now, you can call a friend.

Take care buddy.

You need software to do that mac does not let the caps lock be used for
anything so if you get key remap you can do this, but I understand that in v
m 5 when running it now releases the caps lock from mac and it can be used
as the jaws key naturally

Subject: what is the jaws key when running via remote desktop from a
mac?

I have jaws installed on my pc and I use the standard insert key for
my jaws key. I run jaws from the task bar so that I don't have an
extra dialog window to clutter up my display. If I hit INS+J, I get
the jaws context menu (options, utilities, language, etc). If I hit
INS+F4, it closes jaws.
Everything works fine.

However, I have a case where I need to remote desktop to my pc but I'm
using remote desktop on a macbook laptop. That in itself is not a
problem.
I can
run RD on the mac fine and jaws is running on the PC and I can hear
jaws speak through the macbook speakers.

The problem is the mac doesn't have an insert key. Supposedly,
Fn+Return is
equivalent to insert but that doesn't work. That is, if I try
Fn+Return+J,
that is not being treated like INS+J. I don't get the jaws context
menu.

So I tried changing the "jaws key for desktop layout" via the settings
center. The mac doesn't have a scroll lock key so I tried changing it
to caps lock. I assume that means if I hit CapsLock+J that that would
be like my old INS+J and display the context menu. It didn't work :-(

I'm sure there's some funky key combination on a mac that can mimic
the insert key, or someway to tell jaws to use a different key other
than insert (or caps lock).

Using iCloud with Jaws

M Tobia

Mario

I get a similar message about JAWS authorization but infrequently. I was told by someone from FS it had something to do with the anti-virus program I was running. I restarted my computer and the problem was resolved. But I never had the problem where it was asking for authorization all the time.
Still, you might want to check the anti-virus you're using.

Hi,
Press JAWS-key+F4 to close your current JAWS session.
Press windows-key+R to open 'run dialog' and type jaws14 and press enter.
This should work for you.
When JAWS14 runs probably startup wizard is going to work if not you need to switch to JAWS window and open help menu where you can open this startup wizard and tune-up your JAWS there.

When I go to select 14, Jaws 12 still remains up and running.

Thanks.

Re: what is the jaws key when running via remote desktop from a mac?

You need software to do that mac does not let the caps lock be used for
anything so if you get key remap you can do this, but I understand that in v
m 5 when running it now releases the caps lock from mac and it can be used
as the jaws key naturally

Subject: what is the jaws key when running via remote desktop from a

I have jaws installed on my pc and I use the standard insert key for my
jaws
key. I run jaws from the task bar so that I don't have an extra dialog
window to clutter up my display. If I hit INS+J, I get the jaws
context
menu (options, utilities, language, etc). If I hit INS+F4, it closes
jaws.
Everything works fine.

However, I have a case where I need to remote desktop to my pc but I'm
using
remote desktop on a macbook laptop. That in itself is not a problem.
I can
run RD on the mac fine and jaws is running on the PC and I can hear
jaws
speak through the macbook speakers.

The problem is the mac doesn't have an insert key. Supposedly,
Fn+Return is
equivalent to insert but that doesn't work. That is, if I try
Fn+Return+J,
that is not being treated like INS+J. I don't get the jaws context
menu.

So I tried changing the "jaws key for desktop layout" via the settings
center. The mac doesn't have a scroll lock key so I tried changing it
to
caps lock. I assume that means if I hit CapsLock+J that that would be
like
my old INS+J and display the context menu. It didn't work :-(

I'm sure there's some funky key combination on a mac that can mimic the
insert key, or someway to tell jaws to use a different key other than
insert
(or caps lock).

Tom,

I'm wondering now if JAWS is actually reading some underlying Alt text that
is coded into the application, and not the actual text on the screen? This
might explain why when you type what is there, it's not actually what's
being read by JAWS and therefore not being affected?

I tried that, but had no luck.

I found those instructions in the Jaws help files as well.

In Surf's Up, the instruction is for labeling forms in Html documents
such as web pages, so I don't know if that would work for your
program. It says to press insert+control+tab, type in the name you
want, and press enter.

Good luck!

How can I change the spoken labels for form fields?

The labels spoken in the software as it is now configured are a bit

easier to identify as I tab from one data entry field to the next.

I have tried to find the answer in the Jaws help files, but have yet

It's a ready-made data base, which is part of the problem.

I can't figure out how or why Jaws can read the labels if they are
outside
of the main data entry field.

But, that seems to be the case, which is why it is so difficult to
change
the label names.

Tom, is this a ready-made database, or do you roll your own? I
presume
it's the former. The only logging file I've ever used is one I
cooked up
some years ago in an old DBF-compatible database and ported over to
Access, and I don't use it as often as I should. I know they have
some
slick programs out there at little or no cost, so I'll be interested
in
following this thread through to resolution.

Subject: WordPerfect

There have been developments in the accessibility of WordPerfect, as I
learned yesterday in my discussion with FS.

FS is no longer working to make WP accessible. However, Corel has
established an accessibility group to work on it.

Last week I installed WP X3, the last version Fs officially supported, on my
64-bit Win7 machine, Only to encounter the problems reported by another
lister. For example, I couldn't navigate letter by letter or word by word;
only by line and in say all.

On a tip that Corel has added accessibility features to WP X4, X5 and the
current version X6, I purchased and installed X6. Now JAWS reads character
by character, word by word, and so on. Even some of the old labels have
returned, such as spell-checker on control-F1, save on F3, and so on.

However, I have found several major shortcomings. The most serious, for me,
is that "reveal codes" doesn't work. FS tells me the Corel team is working
on it. Another is that when I control-backspace to delete a word, JAWS
doesn't verbalize that word, but the one before. Still another is that the
status line isn't read, so I can't tell what page I'm on, etc.

It's frustrating that I can't locate this accessibility group at Corel. I've
called the number of a PR person I found in an online document and spoken to
their customer service. FS isn't volunteering it. I don't know when they
expect to fix "reveal codes," assuming they ever do, and I don't know whom
to notify about newly discovered problems, such as the one involving
deletion. Even so, there's hope.

Re: Changing labels in form fields?

Dave...

Tom,

I'm wondering now if JAWS is actually reading some underlying Alt text that
is coded into the application, and not the actual text on the screen? This
might explain why when you type what is there, it's not actually what's
being read by JAWS and therefore not being affected?
