Re: Setting Default Format In Word 2010

Adrian Spratt

Hi, Mike.

I did this myself recently, or at least part of the job. I placed focus on a
document that Word wouldn't open. Note that I didn't click on it. I then
pressed the applications key and arrowed down to "Open with..." After that,
I just had to press the enter key and select Word as the application.

Since then, MS Word 2010 has handled all documents with the same file
extension.

My concern was only one particular file extension, so I didn't look into
forcing Word to acquire the ability to open all documents. My guess is that
you could achieve a wider range with file associations. Go to the Win7
search box and start typing "file association." The area you want comes up
right away.

Adrian

Hi All,

How do I change the default format in Word 2010 for * all documents*? When
closing Word I get a message stating the mormal template can't be changed
because it's a read only file. If I try to save the change with a different

name & reopen Word the default normal template is still being used. I'm

Something to be very careful of: I removed an older version and it messed up the system so bad that I had to format the drive and reinstall windows. Someone said that I should have been running the version I was removing. I'll do that the next time.

When removing old JAWS versions, should they be removed oldest version to newest version, or should the newest versions be removed first, then the older?

If you decide to remove shared components, you will need to reinstall the
latest version of Jaws you want to use to fix things. I did it once by
accident, and a couple of time to fix problems. Thank goodness my husband
was home the first time I did it.

Re: Removal of old JAWS versions

Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)

Certainly, but the last step is to reinstall the current version, using repair mode. That way you get a pristine installation. Certain changes, such as those I mentioned earlier, can only be reversed by complete removal of the offending software.

Yes, You'll see me at Braille next summester. I'm not removing JAWS. My friend has JAWS versions 11, 12, 13 and 14, and wants to remove 11, 12 and 13.

Thank you.

Bissett, Tom <tom.bissett@...>

If you are simply removing older versions of jaws just to cleanup then you can start from oldest but do not remove shared components.
If you are cleaning jaws off the machine altogether then you can still start from ooldest and when removing the newest and last version then you can remove shared components.

Is Webex compatible with JAWS 14?

Michael S. Nunez <michael.steven.n@...>

Hello Everyone,

I am a new member to this list, and I write with a brief question. I
would like to know whether WebEx is compatible with JAWS 14. If not, I
would appreciate recommendations concerning other online meeting
software that is accessible with JAWS.

Thank You,
Michael

Re: kinble is jaws friendly?

Gary King

The discussion is not about the Kindle itself, but about the Kindle for PC with Accessibility Plug-in. This version of the Kindle for PC program enables you to listen to Kindle books on your computer. JAWS, or another screen reader, must be running to make the program work. JAWS reads the menus, and the voices included with the program speak the text of the books.

Using the Convenient OCR feature of JAWS, It is possible to access the text on each page of a Kindle book as it is displayed in the program, but since books are usually printed in multiple columns, this method is of limited use.

The actual keystroke to increase the speech rate is "shift +" (and
"shift -" to decrease it).

A question on windows 8 and mail app

"wsallander@gmail.com <wsallander@...>

Has anyone out there had any luck using the mail app that comes with Windows 8?

I just got a new HP laptop computer with Windows 8 and I’m trying to get used to the mail app that comes with the OS.

For example, when I want to move a message from one folder to another, I can’t find the menu option that will allow me to do that.

It has no menu bar, so I’m assuming that I need to use either the applications key on the keyboard or right click somewhere within the app.

I realize that this is the first incarnation for Jaws using windows 8 and that more improvements are coming in subsequent releases.

Anyone have any thoughts?
