Saying apostrophe twice?

Brandon Keith Biggs <brandonkeithbiggs@...>

Hello,
I'm not sure how to fix this:
'apples' 'oranges'
reads as:
apostrophe apples apostrophe apostrophe apostrophe oranges apostrophe

I'm wondering how to set this to only say the correct number of apostrophes?
I'm using Jaws 11 on a windows 7 64 bit.
Thanks,

Brandon Keith Biggs

Thanks to all for your help. Where did you find out about these control plus
numbers and do they exist for other apps in Office with Jaws 14?

Hi Lauren,

For the upgrade from 2010 to 2013, sorry, I don't know.

For your second question, in outlook 2010 main window, simply type <ctrl+3>
and you will see the contacts. More generally, <ctrl+1> shows the mail,
<ctrl+2> shows the calendar, ... However, I don't know whether this depends
on the order these things are placed in the navigation pane.

HTH. Have a nice day. ChD

Hi:

I bought my Office 2010 Pro from Best Buy and you are supposed to get a free
upgrade to 2013 edition. Is there a way to find in Office a menu like to
upgrade or check for updates? I am using Windows 8 and Jaws 14 and can't
figure out with Jaws 14 or Windows 8 how to find this.

Also, in Outlook, is there an easy way to get to the address book so I can
add, modify and delete contacts?

Sincerely,

Lauren

Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)

When you come right down to it, the SMA always expires before I purchase a new one. I mean, that's the whole point. Admittedly, this time I'm later than I've ever been, but our purchasing folks and I are now getting it together. I didn't' see the form last year, simple as that.

James:

This is misleading information.

When I had version 9, I did not update my version of JAWS until version 12 was released. and, at the same time, I purchased an SMA for the next two versions.

At the time I purchased the upgrades, I was not given a new 20 digit code by the sales representative at Freedom Scientific. So, therefore, I am using the original 20 digit code Freedom Scientific issued to me when they released and sent me version 7.

Your authorization number only changes in the event you've let your SMA
lapse and need a new one. If you renew your existing one, you keep the
same
serial number and authorization number. I've had mine since I'm not
entirely
sure when and it's never changed. As for the authorization number, I think
FS will provide that to you over the phone if you ask for it. At least,
they
used to. That's kind of a non-issue over here since it's stored in a text
file, and that text file's in 5 or 6 different places, but I believe
that's
how I obtained it since, like you, I didn't keep the old install package
from a version of JAWS that was forever and a half ago, and I know I've
changed computers etc since then.

Different issue, Aidan. You're quite right that the number doesn't change.
I'm only agreeing with what I take to be Steve's point that we need
occasional reminders, such as each time a new version is shipped. I bet
most
JAWS users have trashed their old JAWS CD/DVD packages without remembering
that 6.0 had both a braille record of the authorization number and the
authorization disc.

As far as I get it, you will only get a new number once you either
upgrade, or once you get a new SMA. So if you have a active SMA wich
run for 2 years, then after 1 year, you will not get a new number
because the SMA is stil running. So the 20 digit number only change
when you upgrrade or renew SMA.

If I'm not mistaken, the authorization number and extra CD came with JAWS

we shouldn't have to rely on the packaging of a JAWS release from seven
versions ago, nor should we have to wait through a whole weekend to
obtain
such basic information.

I went to register JAWS yesterday and made a startling and annoying
discovery. In order to register and license your copy of JAWS using
the Internet License Management facility, you need an authorization
number which, according to Freedom Scientific's FS activation page, in
both print and braille on the sleeve of the installation program CD.
OH yeah? Then the dots must be hidden, and the print is either
white-on-white or black-on-black, because nobody in my house, blind or
not, could find such a thing, and we looked on two different versions
that came in two different packages.

I suspect that what's really going on here is that somewhere, way back
when I first got JAWS with the serial number I'm currently using,
which was new for version 4.0 which was the first one to run on
Windows NT and above, the box it came in definitely did have an
authorization number on a stick-on braille label. Of course, 4.0 is
long, long ago, and so is the packaging in which it came. Since then,
I'm sure when updates come out, they are delivered directly from the
company that stamps out and packages the distribution CD's, so they
can't possibly be personalized with your very own authorization
number. If that's correct, where are we supposed to find this thing?
Inquiring minds wanna know, and answers will be gotten tomorrow
morning when FS technical support opens for business.

The downloaded voices use the RealSpeak SoloDirect interface, their

In any given voice profile you can use only one of SAPI, Solo Direct
or the newer Vocalizer interface. (You can mix use of Eloquence with
the more natural voices but not two of the others).

So in your voice profile jaws+j -> Options -> Voices -> Voice

Switching an entry from one synthesizer to another is really quite simple, so I don't worry about that. I presume the phonetics of the new synths are about the same as the old RealSpeak and SAPI 5. I know I made the transition from SAPI 5 to RealSpeak entries some time ago, but don't recall if it was before or after deleting SAPI5. I really haven't missed those voices, save for occasional (very occasional) use with Acrobat Reader.

Hi JAWS Users

When I close my laptop computer using JAWS 14 in W7 often when I
start again JAWS will tell me about the log on screen and then and
I will press endter.
Then JAWS will not speak and I will have to force the computer off
and start again.
I have tried insert + space bar and then S, doing this twice.
I have tried to turn JAWS off and reload, no luck.

Hi All,

I got this link from,
Top Tech Tidbits, discussing handling irratic behavior with Jaws.

4) "Handling Erratic Behavior with AT" is an article that gives
systematic ideas for dealing with JAWS quirks:

Hi Lauren,

For the upgrade from 2010 to 2013, sorry, I don't know.

For your second question, in outlook 2010 main window, simply type <ctrl+3> and you will see the contacts. More generally, <ctrl+1> shows the mail, <ctrl+2> shows the calendar, ... However, I don't know whether this depends on the order these things are placed in the navigation pane.

Sincerely,

Lauren

Apologies for the incorrect shortcut key in the earlier mail. You will have
to press CTRL + 3 to go to the address book.

By the way, CTRL + 1 to CTRL + 5 are handy shortcut keys for accessing your
mail, calendar, address book, tasks and notes.

Hi Lauren,

I am unsure about the answer to the check for upgrade option, but I can help
with your query on managing contacts in Outlook 2010.

You can go to contacts by pressing CTRL + 2. Alternatively, you can also add
a sender's contact to your address book by going to the from field in the
message window, opening the application menu by pressing the application key
or SHIFT + F10 and choosing the Add to Address Book option.

Hope this was helpful.

Re: Blatant Rant

Adrian Spratt

Soronel and Dave,

I hate to clutter the list with an obscure point, but for the record, you're
right, Soronel. Dave's message finally prompted me to get off my computer
chair and walk to the room where I keep my relevant JAWS discs. They are
JAWS 6, 13 and 14. JAWS 6 has the extra CD and the brailled authorization
code. I'm confident this was the first release with the then new JAWS
authorization system because I've been buying JAWS since version 2.

The authorization disc makes authorizing simple. I hope FS would supply
replacement authorization discs to anyone who has neglected to keep it.

It depends on the version of jaws you started with so you are likely
both right. When you first purchase jaws you get a multiple CD pack
(mine is a tri fold but I don't know if people who first buy jaws now
get that or something else), one of which is the authorization disc so
that people who can't see can still perform the authorization. After
that however FreedomScientific only sends out single update discs as
part of the SMA process (maybe you get the multi-pack if your SMA
lapses, I haven't let that happen so don't know).

If you renew your existing one, you keep the same
serial number and authorization number. I've had mine since I'm not entirely
sure when and it's never changed. As for the authorization number, I think
FS will provide that to you over the phone if you ask for it. At least, they
used to. That's kind of a non-issue over here since it's stored in a text
file, and that text file's in 5 or 6 different places, but I believe that's
how I obtained it since, like you, I didn't keep the old install package
from a version of JAWS that was forever and a half ago, and I know I've
changed computers etc since then.

Different issue, Aidan. You're quite right that the number doesn't change.
I'm only agreeing with what I take to be Steve's point that we need
occasional reminders, such as each time a new version is shipped. I bet most
JAWS users have trashed their old JAWS CD/DVD packages without remembering
that 6.0 had both a braille record of the authorization number and the
authorization disc.

Subject: Blatant Rant

Hello Aiden:

You get the 20 digit code on the day that JAWS is purchased. That 20 number stays with that licensed copy of JAWS. It does not change.

Freedom Scientific began issuing the 20 digit codes, when they switched from the old licensing management scheme, to the Internet License Management (ILM) scheme, starting with version 7.

Adrian:

Not to be picky, it was JFW, version 7.

I know this, because I had to authorize JAWS for a new Windows installation the other day.

In fact, the authorization process was performed automatically, when you inserted the Authorization CD and, all you had to do was press the SPACE BAR or press ENTER to activate the OK buttton, when the process was finished.

Re: real speak

Soronel Haetir

If you have dictionary entries that are synthesizer specific I doubt
they would get deleted but at the same time they also won't be any use
if you change synthesizers. I tend to leave the language and
synthesizer entries as their default in the dictionary so that they
apply no matter what the synthesizer (my dictionary entries are
crammed together words for the most part, I just add spaces so that
they pronounce each part individually, rather than names or such where
I am trying to correct the actual way a word is spoken).

will alter the dictionary, prior to deleting the old voice files.

The downloaded voices use the RealSpeak SoloDirect interface, their voices I
got on CD use SAPI5.
In any given voice profile you can use only one of SAPI, Solo Direct or the
newer Vocalizer interface. (You can mix use of Eloquence with the more
natural voices but not two of the others).

So in your voice profile jaws+j -> Options -> Voices -> Voice adjustment
make sure that you have selected Solo Direct as either the primary
synthesizer or the say all synthesizer and then you should be able to choose
the voices you installed. (Note that as the installer mentions you have to
restart jaws before the new voices show up).

Wel, you can download the realspeak from freedom website if you don't
want to use the cd, if you do it that way, then you get the voices you
want because the cd don't have all the voices.

I ran it on evaluation mode for a couple of months but now I have
upgraded from JAWS 13. I started with the JAWS 14 beta and then it
converted to the evaluation version. Maybe I should have removed
the evaluation version and then installed JAWS 14?

Does JAWS work when you first fully restart your computer? I ask
because I have been having a problem with a JAWS error 6 message
which causes jaws to go in to demo mode and stop working after 40
minutes. If you are perhaps getting this message or for some other
reason jaws is running in demo mode then you will find when you wake
your computer up from sleep that jaws does nothing as the demo mode
has run out during the time the computer was asleep. Is your jaws
running in demo mode at all? Are you getting any messages?

John,

It seems so obvious, but you don't mention here whether you re-enter
your
Win7 password.

Assuming that's not the issue, have you tried a refresh with JAWS
key+escape? How about pressing alt+tab to move away from the screen,
release, and then alt+tab again to return to the screen?

Hi JAWS Users

When I close my laptop computer using JAWS 14 in W7 often when I
start again JAWS will tell me about the log on screen and then and I
will press endter.
Then JAWS will not speak and I will have to force the computer off
and start again.
I have tried insert + space bar and then S, doing this twice.
I have tried to turn JAWS off and reload, no luck.
