Re: Question regarding the latest update to Quick Assist
Dave Durber
Bill:
I called the Microsoft Disability Assistance line,
and I got an amence stroke of luck, an got the same person who helped me
on Monday. I asked him, if he would be so
kind, as to write down the steps to set up Remote Desktop for both the computer
in my house and my laptop.
While composing this email, I checked to see if I
got any new emails. One of the new messages, was from the Microsoft
representative, listing the step-by-step instructions, for setting
up Remote Desktop on a remote device, whether it be a laptop, smart
phone or, tablet.
Now I am going to see if I can get it all to
work.

Re: Quick Assist Update
Dave Durber
Bill:
Thank you for your help.
I used the link you provided and went to the site.
I then pressed
ENTER on the Quick Assist Link
I then got the prompt to enter the code provided by
the person at the other end. How the code is provided to the individual who
needs help, is a mystery.
It appears, this option is designed to get
assistance from Microsoft. I did not see an option on the site, which allows,
for example, you to connect with one of my systems, to help solve a problem with
that system.
In Quick Assist, there is an option which allows an
individual, to get help from another person/organization, other than Microsoft.
Do you know How the code is generated to the person/organization to give to
the individual who needs the assistance?

Hello, everyone.
Within the last day or so, I have noticed that auto-numbering and auto-lettering has gotten turned back on in Microsoft Word documents and Outlook e-mails.
I suspect this happened in an Office 365 update of some kind.
Why Microsoft has to mess with these sorts of settings in their updates is beyond me.
I prefer to do numbering and lettering manually, since that gives me more control in what I’m doing.
Anyway, if someone has an easy-to-follow set of instructions for disabling auto-numbering and lettering in MS Word documents and Outlook e-mails, I’d appreciate your sending them along.
I don’t know what else might have changed, but I’ll take things one step at a time.
I’m using Office 365 on a Windows 10 PC here.

Turn Off Auto Bullet Or Numbering In Outlook
You can turn off auto bullet or numbering in Outlook as follows.
1. Open the Outlook Options dialog box, ALT plus F, followed by T. 2. Arrow down to Mail. 3. Tab over to, and press ENTER on the Editor Options button. 4. In the Editor Options dialog box, make sure Proofing is highlighted by arrowing to it. 5. Tab to, and press ENTER on the AutoCorrect Options button. 6. Press CONTROL plus TAB, until it says, AutoFormat As You Type. 7. uncheck AutoNumbering, and AutoBulleting. 8. Tab to, and press ENTER on the OK button. 9. Tab to, and press ENTER on the next OK button.

OK, I deleted everything but the brain was lagging. It took Microsoft lady techy to remind me to go to the download or run to install the Playroom. I had saved an exe file which I guess from what I read it nolonger going to be used. There is a beta version and eventually that beta version will become reality. Yay, I am back up and running.

Re: reading pdfs
Bill White
Hi, Justin. That's because all pdf's aren't created equal. Some are photos, imported into a pdf. Others are in columns, and sometimes don't read well with a screen reader, because the screen reader is optimized for reading rows across the screen, not columns vertically down the screen. Some pdf's are text, but the spacing in the pdf is odd, so when you try to extract the optical text, words are run together. Some pdf's are so large that it is necessary to read only the visible pages. Because of all the variability between pdf documents, no method is going to get it right 100% of the time.

Re: Question regarding the latest update to Quick Assist
Bill White
Hi, Dave. Until they actually get the update into public circulation, all Microsoft will be able to do is walk you through the process of setting up the remote between your PC and your laptop. Right now, they don't have any way of taking control of either computer to do the process for you. I really hope this Windows Assist problem gets sorted quickly.

Re: Question regarding the latest update to Quick Assist
Bill White
Hi, Dave. I just spoke with the Microsoft Disability Desk at 10:00 AM, Pacific Daylight Time. They told me that currently, the Quick Assist app is crashing for everyone. They told me that an update should be released by tomorrow that should fix both the crashing problem, and also the inaccessibility issue. I published a review on the Microsoft Store which delineates the issue, and states that Microsoft did not verrify that this app is accessible for screen readers before releasing it.

Hello Everyone:
An update on my initial posting!
All my systems are presently running the older version of Quick Assist.
Up to yesterday evening, when I opened Quick Assist on each of my computers, included in the update screen, there was a "Not Yet" button.
I have run Quick Assist on all the systems this morning, the "Not Yet" button, has disappeared.
It looks like Microsoft, are forcing users to update Quick Assist, regardless as to whether they wish to do so or not, even though Microsoft, kno the updated version of Quisk Assist is floored.
This now means, users cannot use the previous version of Quick Assist, if they need someone have access to there computer
Regardless as to whether screen readers users use the previous version of Quick Assist or the new version, as individuals who are visually impaired, in my opinion, we are being right royally screwed by the arrogance of Microsoft.

I hope this is the right group. If not, sorry.
My story begins with me getting stuck in a loope that would not let me out of a game nregardless what I tried. I went to the control panel and deleted the program. Then I went to the c: and deleted it from there. Tried reinstalling it and had two of the same program. It said two of twenty and twenty of twenty so I deleted one of them in the C: and program file. Reinstalled it and now I get a fatal error. What did I do wrong? Thanks in advance.
Oh BTW on the confused message that I sent earlier, thanks to those of you that helped me.

Now: List Rules - 06/01/2022
#cal-notice
Group Notification <noreply@...>
List Rules When: Description: http://groups.io/g/jfw/wiki/List-Policies
**List Policies** 1: Keep it clean. We're a family list, and there are people here who probably don't want to hear everything *exactly* that's running through your head. If you wouldn't see it on TV, it doesn't belong in a post to the list. If you're not sure, email the administration before you post it to the list. Otherwise, you stand to see your posts moderated. 2: Stay on topic. We're a JFW-oriented list. That said, anything related to JFW, its functionality with programs etc is acceptable. If it doesn't have to do with JFW, it doesn't belong on the list. This includes, but isn't limited to, talk of other screen readers such as Window Eyes. 3: Listen to, and respect, the wishes of the admins/moderators. If you're asked by an admin or moderator to drop a subject, or take something to private emails (in the instance of two people carrying on a thread list-wide), please do so. If the subject is changed on a thread by an admin or moderator, it will be explained why in the email sent out with it. Please don't continue replying to the old subject. 4: Don't ask over the list for a position on the list administration. If you'd like to help out, it's of course welcome, but address the request to do so to the admin team, otherwise it'll be ignored. Requests are always welcome, whether help is being looked for or not. When help is needed, a post will be made to the list. The requests already received will be kept in mind. 5: Keep flaming to a minimum. This is not limited to flaming of each other, but goes beyond that, to flaming of products, opinions, ideas, suggestions, etc. Constructive criticism never hurts. Flame wars, especially public ones, both drive people from this list and are unwelcome here. either take the problem to private emails, or report the problem to list administration. 6. Respect the opinions and views of others. This is *very* important in any environment, most especially an online environment where the only gage one has on a person is what that person puts to writing. If you come off as hostile in your posting, whether you intended to or not, people will take it as such. Online, "face value" means just that. People make mistakes, people don't always have access to the same information you do. For that matter, people don't always have the same experience you do. If you know how someone can solve their problem, great. Suggest it to them and/or the list. Do *not* proceed to tell someone, on or off list, that they have no business posting. Repeat offenders of this particular rule will be banned for a week to 30 days, depending on the severity. Serious problems will be banned permanently. As always, if there are problems or questions with regards these policies, don't hesitate to send them off-list to jfw+owner@groups.io James, |
