Hi.

Press INSERT+F12 twice quickly to get the date.

Have a blessed day and don't work too hard.

Depending on your computer model, you should be able to use function key plus escape to toggle your function keys back to their primary functions. Then jaws key plus F 12 should start working again without having to do acrobats trying to press jobs key plus F 12+ function. LOL.

Try using the special FN key, usually left of the space bar, along with F12.
Otherwise, you can do insert + B for the task bar and arrow to the
time if you have it set to display the time there.

I'll agree that this is not a "dumb question."   Most of us have our standard procedures, but when something occurs to make those not feasible at the moment, alternatives must be sought out.

My only note is that this question has nothing at all to do with whether JAWS is being used or not.  ALT+F4 is a global Windows command for any program, and using the Word File Backstage View to Close (ALT+F,C) is a Word Command.

I cannot find any exit option in Word 2016 or later via the file menu.  If you have multiple files open, using the close command will actually close the word window for all but the final one.  When you're on the final one, it will close the document, but leave Word itself open.

ALT+Spacebar, in almost any given program, will bring up the main window context menu, which is short, and the last item is generally Close (or Exit if Close is used on the only instance of the window), so ALT+Spacebar,C will generally nuke any given window you happen to be looking at.  There are rare exceptions, but Word isn't one of those.

Hi.

I have an Asus Zen Book laptop, and, like many others, the function keys were set so FN had to be pressed with them to do things like JAWS control. To fix this, I learned that FN+ESC would solve the problem. It fixed it for me, and if I ever want things back the way they were, I just press that key combination again.

Just sharing.

Hello,
Sometimes the special function keys setting can be changed in
control pannel under keyboard in the function keys category and other times this setting would need to be changed in BIOS which is inaccessible to screen readers.
I would begin in the control panel under keyboard link and see if there is any tab when pressing control tab that states function keys tab.
You could also try pressing the fn key to the left of the space bar with escape to disable it temporarily while you press insert f12 for example to check time.

As far as I know, it is changed in the BIOS, so if it got turned on without
going into the BIOS, there is probably a button to toggle it.
You may need to look that up on your particular laptop model.

Good morning: I have a problem with my f4 key on my laptop keyboard. I know
this should be obvious but how can I completely close word other than with
alt+f4?
Thanks.

Launch zoom, and press Jaws key plus h, this will bring up a virtualized window where you can find a list of useful keystrokes!

Suggest that before you podcast, you familiarize yourself bu access some of the training material which is on the Zoom site.

For the most part to begin with, you can tab to explore and in settings you can have shortcut keys turned on so that as you tab, it tells you what the shortcuts are.

A while ago someone mentioned how to download and the item would automatically be placed in your downloads folder without having to go through the f6 procedure. Could someone please remind me how this is done.

And, whilst on this topic, do we no longer use alt n to access the save or open options?

Hi,

Go to references

Right arrow on table of content submenu

Hit enter on table of content drop down button

Arrow down to custom table of content… and hit enter

Ddialog box opens, tab to level display and make your choice then tab to ok.

You’re done!

Thank you much for these instructions;

However,

I noticed something,

When creating the built-in table 1,

It only goes three headings deep;

My document has some headings that are 4 or 5 levels deep;

3-5(a)(1)(A)

For example.

How do I get the table of contents to recognize headings deeper than level 3?

Please advise as you like.

Hello, I’m sorry for not getting back to you so soon guys

Well, inserting a table content is quite easy indeed. After you have added all the headings you want,

Go to the first page of the document, you can insert a page break if you have already written something onto that page. I always

Do it just to be sure that my table of contents  always will be on the first page when I push control plus home. Anyway, when you’re in the first page of the document, press alt to focus the cursor on the upper ribbons, then arrow right or left to references, and press space bar to open this tab. By default, you will be on the option called table of contents, so press space bar again and using down arrow choose automatic table, then hit enter, and your table  should be inserted.

Leo,

Is that done with the Word feature for creating a Table of Contents?  I havent’ used that in decades, but could look at it.

Hi, I don’t know if you have already done what I’m going to suggest, but after  adding headings to my word documents,

I usually create a table content in the first page, in this way, whenever I open my document, I can jump to a specific topic quicker than you can say Jack Robinson!

Just wanted to report back that I’m loving this quick way of adding headings to Word documents.  I took the time to create my own way I want the fonts to appear or each of them and now I’m finding using for this in other documents.  Such a great way to quickly jump around in larger documents.

WARNING: This email originated externally. Exercise caution. Think before clicking links or opening attachments.

Press CTRL alt and whatever number you want. For example, 1 for heading 1 text and 2 for heading 2 text. You can press the above hotkey either before or after typing your text. Just know that after you type text you want in heading xxx, you have to of course select it before pressing above hotkey.

Hi,

I have a long JAWS help file where I keep my notes on using JAWS with various software.  What is the easiest way to add headings so that I can turn on quick keys and navigate this large document with level 1 and level 2 headings?  The style task pane seemed a bit intimidating.  I can go back to my Window Eyes and Word 2010 book from Cathie Ann to see if she covers the topic more thoroughly, but hoping someone can answer for this simple aspect. Using JAWS 2021 and Word 2016.  I really need a better way to find topics in this document, over the way I’ve been doing it.
