I sure can't think of anything else to try. If I were in that situation, I'd use k1000 to scan the document and hope it didn't scan too bad.

I have a 150 page PDF which is tagged and passed the accessibility checker and PDF/UA checkers. However, when I test it in Adobe Reader on JAWS, JAWS reads to the bottom of the page and stops. Hitting the arrow key just repeats the last word on the page like it's reached the end of the document. CTRL + Page Down does advance you to the next page, but takes you to the last line on the next page which is obviously far from an ideal experience for the end user. Insert + Down Arrow (Say All) only reads current page. I have tried changing the accessibility and reading settings to (a) read the entire document, (b) large documents read current page and changing size of large document to a minimum of 200 pgs (longer than this pdf), and (c) read single page continuous. None of them worked. The document is due to my client today and would be good to go if not for this weird issue. In 10 years of pdf remediation, I've never encountered this problem before. Because I have an NDA, I cannot share the file.

Re: how do you successfully alt tab with jaws in windows 10 update 21h1?
Takis,
Everything you describe has Windows Corruption or potential infection written all over it. There is no way that programs "just randomly close" under normal circumstances. First, try Using SFC (System File Checker) and DISM (Deployment Imaging Servicing and Management) to Repair Windows 8 & 10 If that doesn't stop the offending misbehavior, then try Doing a Windows 10 Repair Install or Feature Update Using the Windows 10 ISO file What you're describing is simply not characteristic behavior. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not. ~ André Gide

Re: how do you successfully alt tab with jaws in windows 10 update 21h1?
Hi Brian-all, Actually, I have double checked on this Brian and it’s all set as suggested ever since I posed this question a while back. However, I still find that I can not get a rotating behaviour with alt-tab for more than say, two windows being open simultaneously. If I have bbc radio3 open as I do, plus outlook and for a while I want to open say, a word document, then outlook will probably vanish and I have to go back to desktop and restart it afresh. I wonder if others are finding this behaviour with latest jaws and win10 21h build 19043. Kindest regards, Takis

You know, it's just plain foolish to call a new feature, and its default setting, however annoying that might be (and, believe me, it's happened to all of us) a problem. You know, it's just plain foolish to call a new feature, and its default setting, however annoying that might be (and, believe me, it's happened to all of us) a problem.
The ALT + TAB behavior was changed with version 20H2 (thanks, Joseph Lee for confirming version) and deeper integration with new Chromium-based MS-Edge. That behavior can be changed back to old-style with ease. As I noted yesterday, in the topic entitled, windows 10 update 21h1: Settings, System, Multitasking Pane and check to see what the dropdown for Pressing ALT + Tab shows, is set to. If you want conventional "old Windows" movement between open windows then you need to select, Open windows only, from the dropdown. Someone also mentioned that they tweaked the settings related to multiple desktops that have an impact on ALT + Tab behavior, which is also a good idea if you use them. I don't, but many do. These are some of the many reasons that being proactive and at least scanning topics you may not initially think interest you is a good idea. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not. ~ André Gide

That is an interesting statement of the "my cup is half empty" kind and I'm curious why you have such a negative attitude. I have updated my laptop and all the PC's at my business and many on the list here have updated and I don't think I have seen people report any major issues, I certainly have none.

I knew that when Microsoft introduced this particular behavior change, and made it default, it was going to be a major stumbling block for screen reader users. There was much discussion about it on the Windows Access with Screen Readers group (formerly Win10 for Screen Reader Users) back when it first hit, and I cannot recall whether that was version 1909 or 2004. This is one of the problems for those who end up on the "late end" of any feature update roll out cycle. Most of the bumps get discussed in the early weeks and first several months and then the discussions fade. By the time the late cohorts are updated much can be forgotten. This is one reason I implore people to file specific messages about changes that they are virtually certain will affect them, eventually, even if they don't at the moment. It makes it much quicker and easier to check your own mini-archive. -- Brian *-*Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 *It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not.* ~ André Gide

Yesterday, Brian Vogel answered that question on this list. You can also get to the place he mentions by opening the search by tapping the Windows key and typing alt-tab and arrow down a couple of times…

Re: Braille problem

The problem is now solved regarding braille display displaying only in Grade one code in Microsoft Word. Thanks to all of you for the help. I really appreciate it. What I end up doing is having her Jaws configuration pasted into my Explorer My settings folder, then I use the first letter navigation key to find Word.JCF to open the settings center directly, I then press b until I find braille, then translation. It turns out that she had her output set to Chinese braille code and her input is in U.S Grade One . Now everything has straightened and thank you once again for the tip. best regards Michael H. In Microsoft Word, use Insert+V for Quick Settings and check the translation table options.
