Mike

Thanks a million!

As luck and God would have it, I, of course, found Edsharp in the list of
applications. Figuring there was nothing to lose, I unchecked Edsharp,
saved the change, exited JFW and then restarted JFW.
Went into Edsharp, and, bingo, no mention of the homer error msg.
So, in a totally unexpected way, problem resolved.

I am a daily user of Edsharp (and have been for longer than I can
remember) and find it a great way to save all sorts of things.

Interesting that you should mention Jamal as the error now pops up when I
open his Edsharp text editor program.
The only thing new on this desktop today -- the error reared its ugly head
this afternoon -- is an installation of Hartgen Consulting's Leasey
scripts.

That brings up a question. Is there a way to temporarily stop a script
package from running so I can test whether might explain anything.
As apparently this isn't a part of JFW2022, unless it causes some major
issue, it's probably something that can be ignored.

Mario, thanks for the enlightenment. And to others for responding.

Hi, Mike. There is no "Homer.JSB" script file in my JAWS installation.
This
is either for an application you have installed, or it is a script which
an

Suddenly, JAWS2022 is giving me this error msg.

Does it mean anything; or should it just be ignored.
I am wondering if this is a compatibility issue or a corrupted script. If
the latter, how do I repair it?

here's the error msg:

I’ve had some success with arrowing up away from the link and then either pressing u or v, u if you haven’t visited the link yet and v if you have. Seems to also work in pdfs.

Steve,

You just need to arrow one or two characters into the link, then hit enter.  I’ve been doing that now and it’s working great. You are partially correct that it will insert a line break if you hit enter while you are in front of that link.

Hi Brian,

No, it doesn’t work. If you press enter on a link inside Word, then you will enter a carriage return into the document.

The best way I have found is to bring up the elements list with Insert/Caps Lock and F7, then go to the link and press enter.

All the best

The use of CTRL + Left Click is only for external hyperlinks, that is, that take you out of the document and open a webpage in a web browser.  When you hover over those, there is actually a pop-up that tells you to hit CTRL + Left Click if you want to open the webpage.

For ToC hyperlinks, that simply relocate you in the document, "the sighted way" is just left clicking and I'd imagine screen reader way is just activating the link.

Super helpful to know.   I don’t use Gmail for personal stuff, but the parent teacher group does have a Gmail account I’m learning to use.

Robin,

By the way, if you happen to use the Gmail webmail interface, all attachments will be presented with an option to download (as in to local storage on your machine) or to add to Google drive.  If you start using Google Drive to any extent, it's often much quicker to respond to add it to Google Drive as no downloading occurs (immediately, anyway) and it will be sitting on Google Drive whenever you finally decide to directly access it.

Also aware of this, and have NEVER seen it in the specific context under discussion.  There's no command conflict here, and nothing to pass through.  JAWS does not handle "Enter" as a command, either Windows (like in File Explorer) or the application (like in Word) does.

I am not new to this rodeo.

Ah Brian, this is where sometimes it doesn’t.

Uh, because it's not a function of the screen reader.  It works when no screen reader is involved.

You know that I often make the point that I believe it's essential for users to know "who controls what."  This is entirely controlled by Word and Word alone.  It's screen reader agnostic.
