Calling All Script Writers

Ed Marquette <marquette.ed@...>

About half the time, when I need a script, what I really need is a
macro.

I am stumped with the simplest problem.

I have an application which will work fine if only I pass the down
arrow through to the application, not permitting JAWS to process
it. I know this works because I've done it manually.

So, I want a simple script, which I've assigned to Windows down
arrow.

The first script command is the ByPass command, and I think that
works.

I'm then thinking I should send the TypeKey command followed with
the parameter (DownArrow).

So the line reads:

TypeKey (DownArrow)

Well, I get a compile error on the TypeKey command.

I think I am overlooking something pretty simple.

as the parameter.

I use Utorrent. I need to use the JAWS cursor to read the full line
of a torrent in progress, but it does the job. I am using JAWS 16
with the current Utorrent version.

I've been not really paying attention to the torrenting scene of late so
am
a little out of touch. What are people using for torrenting these days? I
used to use UTorrent, but I've noticed the latest version has started to
hang my system a fair bit. I'm still using JAWS 14, so a client that
works
best with that version would be appreciated - though if I need to, I can
always upgrade to 16. Thoughts and feedback would be awesome.

JM Casey <crystallogic@...>

I still use Utorrent, but an old version: 3.0.1. You should still be able to find this somewhere. New versions of Utorrent are apparently garbage, so say a few sighted users (read it's not an accessibility issue), and practically unworkable. This is too bad as it used to be the best client around. .

Hi Ariel,

Unfortunately FS does not work that way. They don't allow you to jump from
J14 to J16 or J17 without paying for J15 as well. For example, let's say you are using J12 & want to go to J16, you would have to purchase all the SMA's up to the current version. That is why it's important to stay on top
of your SMA's, or it will be quite expensive to catch up. Being you are
currently at Jaws 14, you would have to pay full price for both J15 & J16, each SMA consists of 2 upgrades, which will cost you $240.00 to catch up to the current version of J16, $120.00 per version for the Home / Standard edition. Then since you're wanting to upgrade to the J17 / J18 SMa & buying it passed the discount deadline it would cost you the full price of $120.00 per version to get the J17 / J18 SMA, or a total of $240.00 for both. For those that are current & have the J17 upgrade still remaining, if they buy the SMA for J18 & J19 before the end of the year, for the Home / Standard edition, the SMA for both J18 & J19 will cost $120.00 to get both versions.
If purchased after the end of year it costs' the full price of $120.00 per version, so $240.00 to upgrade to the J18 / J19 SMA after the first of the year. To be absolutely sure of what it will cost you or anyone else it would be advised to call FS Sales at:

Hi,
Your best bet would be to call customer service at freedom scientific and
see what they say for each individual case. Sometimes they run sales and
sometimes each individual situation is different. To make a blanket
statement regarding price and SMA and apply it to each JAWS user would be
highly inaccurate.

Hi Ariel,

Unfortunately FS does not work that way. They don't allow you to jump from
J14 to J16 or J17 without paying for J15 as well. For example, let's say
you are using J12 & want to go to J16, you would have to purchase all the
SMA's up to the current version. That is why it's important to stay on top
of your SMA's, or it will be quite expensive to catch up. Being you are
currently at Jaws 14, you would have to pay full price for both J15 & J16,
each SMA consists of 2 upgrades, which will cost you $240.00 to catch up to
the current version of J16, $120.00 per version for the Home / Standard
edition. Then since you're wanting to upgrade to the J17 / J18 SMa & buying
it passed the discount deadline it would cost you the full price of $120.00
per version to get the J17 / J18 SMA, or a total of $240.00 for both. For
those that are current & have the J17 upgrade still remaining, if they buy
the SMA for J18 & J19 before the end of the year, for the Home / Standard
edition, the SMA for both J18 & J19 will cost $120.00 to get both versions.
If purchased after the end of year it costs' the full price of $120.00 per
version, so $240.00 to upgrade to the J18 / J19 SMA after the first of the
year. To be absolutely sure of what it will cost you or anyone else it
would be advised to call FS Sales at:

1-800-444-4443

Take care.

Hello Greg,
I consider it a Jaws question, and I hope the following helps.
Cheers Kevin.
Spread Sheet Uniformity
You need to open the Home tab of the ribbon menus and tab down to the format
item just past the insert and delete cells items. Press enter on this Format
item and you will find the column width and row height formatting
dialogues. Select Autofit column width and Auto fit row height to make your
spreadsheet look good. There is also a wrap text item that you can use in
case you have a few cells with a lot of text in them.
What Jaws announces
For Jaws to announce that text has gone into the next cell go to Excel
settings, insert V, and arrow down to Workbook, worksheet, and Region
Settings Cell Appearance cell text visibility detection - set to On

Hi all.

I'm not sure that this is a JAWS question or not but your help is
appreciated either way.

In excel 2010 I'd like to be able to identify cells that are "Obscured
widen" or cells that are not formulated correctly and show some kind of
error message. More or less I'd like to be able to proof the sheet before
sending.

Any thoughts on how to do this efficiently?

Thanks.

Thank you very much for enlightening me about the Developers Tools.
I've
never been in there, & it's very interesting, to say the least!
However,
deleting the domain cookies did not help at all. Something though, on
my XP
computer running J13, Jaws will read the search results numberically,
but
not running J15! I had stated that J15 on my XP computer would read
the
search results numberically, but I was wrong. Neither J15 or J16 reads
search results numerically on my Windows7 Pro computer.
Take care.

Hi again, Mike. I don't know that this will work, but you might want to
try
removing the cookies for the domain:
google.com

You would do this in the following way:

1. Bring up google.com in IE.

2. Press the function key F12 to bring up the developer tools submenu.

3. Press the ALT key, and Right arrow over to Cache.

4. Down Arrow to Clear Cookies for Domain, and press Enter.

5. Close the browser, and reopen Google.com. See if this puts google
back to
its default state.

Being you are

Of all things, JAWS 13, dummed down a little and XP with (UI hate to admit) IE 7. It won't let me update now with XP. Sometimes I get the message that I need to update, that eventually I won't have web access. When that happens, I will be forced to get my new stuff, but I do want to wait until after the first of the year, or if I have to, late November or December.

Hi Again Bil,

Thank you very much for enlightening me about the Developers Tools.
I've
never been in there, & it's very interesting, to say the least!
However,
deleting the domain cookies did not help at all. Something though, on
my XP
computer running J13, Jaws will read the search results numberically,
but
not running J15! I had stated that J15 on my XP computer would read the
search results numberically, but I was wrong.

"go to" cels in excel.

Greg Nickel

Thanks.

Greg

I'd urge you to contact FS or your supplier. Based on earlier posts, FS will work out some arrangement with users who formerly had SMAs but who let them expire.

Re: jaws page:

Adrian Spratt

Keep in mind that FS has changed its SMA price structure. Instead of "standard," there'll be something like "home." "Pro" in our Windows systems will no longer determine whether we must buy the higher-priced SMA. So for many of us, the SMAs should be coming down in price.

Hi Kimsan,

I don't recall the amount of the discount, but the discount amount depends
on if you get the Standard or Pro version of Jaws. Also, I don't recall the
time frames in which the SMA needs to be purchased to get the discount. All
this info can be found by calling FS Sales at: 1-800-444-4443.

Take care.

Hi Ariel,

If you have any SMA upgrades available to you, for example I have 1 SMA
upgrade left, which I'll use for Jaws 17. Then, after I use that upgrade
for J17, I'll buy the SMA's for J18 & J19. When you buy the SMA's ahead of
time you get a discount, but you don't buy any SMA's until you are out of
SMA upgrades. So, after I buy the J18 / J19 SMA, I'll buy the SMA's for J20
& J21 after I use the J19 upgrade.

Take care.

Hello,
While on the topic of Windows 10, I would like to ask a question about
JAWS 17. My question is, if I renew my MSA, would 17 count against my
upgrades available, or would the upgrade not count against my MSA since we
are close to the time that new versions are usually released? Any info
will be greatly appreciate it! Thanks,

Hi Michael,
I am on JAWS 14 and I do not have anymore SMA upgrades available. How would that work for me? Would I only get 16 and 17 if I renew my SMA now, or will I get 17 and 18? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks,
Ariel

I believe the SMA gives you two upgrades for the price of one.
