Did you enable new email sound notification in the Outlook program itself?

Good morning to my fellow jaws users.

  1. Where can we find the area that allows us to adjust how often we want our mail to come in via keyboard commands?
  2. When I ship mail out with attachments, I usually go to the file that I’m going to attach then go into the sent to menu and go down or up arrow to sent by mail then put in the address and so on.
  3. How can I add not only one attachment, but multiple attachments to the outgoing letter?
  4. If I remember correctly, within WLM, you started adding attachments by alt I, then went through the keyboard shortcuts to add multiple attachments to the letter.

For some weird reason my wave file for receiving mail isn’t working in my sound scheme.

  1. I have both the desktop mail and the new mail with the same wave file.
  2. When I go to test the file it plays correctly.
  3. But, when I want it to go off, it doesn’t.
  4. The help desk will be calling later today to see if it is fix and we’ll take it from there.
  5. But for now, it isn’t going off.
  6. The wave file that I want to go off is the trucker4.wav file from the old Jim Kitchen game trucker for the beep beep sound effect since I have a roadrunner account.
  7. Many thanks for those who try to help me out.
  8. Ron who hates it when you need to have your computer formatted and slowly rebuilding it to try to get everything working once again.

Robin, very good explanation.

I find when I type too many letters and it hides the matches, if I delete one or two, the suggestions are back.

If you want to add multiple email addresses to a contact, tab to the email index button. To se the stage, the contact screen for Outlook only visually displays one email address line, but  you can add more.  The email index button is the button just before the email address entry field.  When you hit enter on that button, a submenu opens where  you can pick the label for this subsequent email address, such as Email 2.  Once  you hit that, a new empty email address field appears to the right where you  can type the address.

As far as the nickname thing, I’m not sure if what I’m about to say replicates the experience in WLM, as I havent’ used that.  Thee are several ways to add recipients to your email message.  For what I think you are asking, you can go to the TO field and type in the address.  Focus is usually in this field when you start a new message or begin to forward a message.  Unless you change default settings, I believe that Outlook will start to build a memory of email recipients as you use the addresses.  So, to start building this list of commonly used addresses, you can do a couple things.  The way I prefer is to begin to type the first or last name of the person in my contacts, then hit Control K.  This opens a small dialog of possible choices from your address book. You can arrow down this list and hit enter to add it to your to field.  Once you’ve sent a message to this person, starting to type the address or name in the future will bring up a suggestions list as you type.  I do find Outlook quirky now where, if I type too many letters,  it hides the suggestion list. It’s like it prefers when I type one or two letters over typing the full name.  Then again, you can always use Control K again and, if  you only have one person in your contacts that matches what you’ve started to enter, Outlook will just  populate the address.  The other options for adding recipients is to Shift Tab back a few times to the To button and hitting that. This opens a dialog box where  you can type a name and tab to a go button. Once the results populate, you can hit enter on it (or learn the shortcuts to adding the address as a To, cc, or Bcc addressee).  Once  you select that first address, focus moves back to your search field where you can type another name and hit the go button again to see the results.  Tab to OK when you have your list complete.  Again, once you send an email to someone once, Outlook should recall this name and suggest it next time you start to type the name in

the to field.

1. Survey from Microsoft accessibility team seeks to understand the voices you use with your screen reader

In an effort to understand how screen reader users choose different voices, the Microsoft accessibility team has released a survey. The survey asks questions about how and why users choose a voice, if different voices are used for different tasks, your level of experience with a screen reader, and more. This is a very comprehensive survey, with both selective response and short answer components, that thoroughly investigates the preferences of screen reader users.

I’m thinking you both are right.  I was surprised that Picture Smart works, but maybe the ping for that goes to a more widely known server and the ping for the voice assistant is going to a freedom scientific site.  It’s not a huge loss if I can’t get it to work on my work laptop. I   just thought it might be fun to play with. I tried to use Sharkie the other day to invoke a JAWS command that I could not recall, but I just used the command search layered keystroke instead.

Hopefully Vispero will give you a clear answer so you can ask your I.T. admin to fix it.

Hi,

If you are working on a computer that is locked down by an administrator, I don’t think the voice assistant will work as it needs to go out to the web to do some things which administrators in a work environment has locked.

Hi all,

I sent the following message to Vispero support.  I havent’ heard back yet, bug wanted to share this to see if anyone else in a similar situation is having the same problem.

Hello,

I’ve used Voice Assistant on my home laptop.  Today was the first time I tried to use it on my Win 10 machine at work, using JAWS 2021.  I get the following error message after saying “Sharkie”.

The Voice Assistant has failed to connect to the service. Please check your Internet connection and try again.

I am on the internet, but on a laptop with no admin privileges and behind a firewall.  I can successfully use PictureSmart and Convenient OCR.  It seems all is set correctly in the Voice Assistant section of Settings Center.  So, are you aware of any issues with this working behind firewalls?  Could there be a setting I can change?

As an FYI, I already know of issues where our firewall settings mean my company IT guy installs my JAWS from the full install version for secure environments and I cannot download the manual into FS Reader.  Not sure if that same scenario is at play here.

The second of your questions is when outlook is checking received
messages and sending any outstanding ones, just leave it alone and it
will go right away. It does this every so often, you can adjust how
often, but I forget exactly where that is.

"Why, what did she tell you?"

The entire purpose of OneDrive just as is the case with Dropbox is to upload all your files to the cloud so you can access them from multiple devices.

Whether all your files are also stored as a local copy on your computer depends on a setting in OneDrive. If you go to OneDrive Settings and to the "Settings" tab, you find the following after about 5 tabs:

Files On-Demand, Save space and download files as you use them

This I sa checkbox, if it is checked the files on demand setting is turned on which means files are kept in the cloud until you use them. I prefer to have a complete copy of all my files on my laptop as well as on my work computer so I uncheck this setting and this means all files are downloaded to the computer and then are kept in sync, e.g. if I add a file on my laptop and then go to work, this file will also be synced/downloaded to my work computer. If I open a particular file like an Excel spreadsheet and make changes at work and I then go home and open the file on my laptop these changes will be refelected there. It's basiclaly like using Gmail with IMAP or Outlook.com with Exchange where all your email is kept on the server, but also synced to each device where you set up the account. The nice thing with such cloud services is that if I keep all my documents in OneDrive, i.e. if I change the location of the Documents folder from c:\users\Your User Account\Documents to c:\users\your user account\OneDrive\Documents and I buy a new computer, all I have to do is sign in with my Microsoft Id when I set up the new computer and all the documents then appear, I think the Files on demand settings is the default, however, so I would have to uncheck this on a new computer if I want the files to download there as well.

You can also change the location of the Pictures folder and under the Backup tab in OneDrive settings you can also enable your desktop and while this may not be new, you can actually enable backing up your Documents and Pictures folder there so you probably wouldn't even have to change the location any more.

Hello listers: I have a one drive account. I have a one drive folder on my hard drive with lots of other folders and files within it. So are the contents of my one drive folder on my  computer, in the cloud or both? How does one tell?It is all very cloudy to me.

If escape doesn't do it, tab around to see if there is a close button.
control."+w and control+f4 close the active window.

Just wanted to say thanks for those who tried to help me out today.

Now, the only issue I’m having is that for some strange reason, I can’t get the sound scheme that I want to play to go off for new mail notification.

I even have the M.S. Tech Support operator stumpted as well to why the sound effect wave file that I have chochen won’t go off as well.

Many thanks once again.
