Jeff,

Call your school (probably the IT help desk) and explain what's happening.  Heaven knows how, but it appears that someone entered the wrong email address (the Gmail one that you've never had) and they need to correct it, either to your existing Gmail address or Comcast Address so that you can get your verification by email or set up a verification method that pushes a text message to your smartphone (if you have one).

Subject: Jeff Lukacsena: help with gmail account

Hello List,

I have a bit of a strange issue regarding Gmail and I was wondering if anyone could provide some help.

Right now I have one comcast e-mail address and one gmail address

The situation is this:

I am registering for graduate school and the school had me create an online account. They want me to connect the school’s e-mail to my system.

Right now the school’s e-mail does not recognize me as an individual.

They want me to verify myself to allow me to connect my school’s e-mail to my Outlook.

They asked me to use a verification method.

They want to send me a code to my back up e-mail based on a username that was created when I registered with the school’s online system.

They want to send a verification code to jmlukacs@...

I don’t have a registered addres of that name with Google.

I went into my gmail account and tried to add this e-mail, but it said the username jmlukacs is already in use.

Not sure how to get an e-mail in Google that matches the backup e-mail on the school’s system.

Any suggestions would very helpful, since I am waiting for a housing application e-mail from the school.

Thanks,

Jeff Lukacsena

Yeah but their software for Windows is only one platform. And as global as they are, I'll bet their software and web sites are already available in a number of languages.

Anyway, you are entitled to your opinions and I am entitled to mine.

And I am done with this.

Hi everyone!

I am trying to transfer all of my photos from my iPhone to my PC, but so
far haven't had any luck. First, using Edge I logged into my Apple ID
then went to my iCloud drive with no problems. Then when I tried to
select my photos so I could download them, my iCloud drive seemed empty
even though it was reporting having something like 78 photos. I even
tried using the touch cursor but still had no luck.

Then I was told that I should install iCloud for Windows and it would
download my photos for me, so I did. Now I not only find that I cannot
access anything on my iCloud drive, the app won't stay loaded. It used
to have a notification area icon but that never shows up any more even
though all three startup programs that Apple installed are turned in the
Windows 10 settings program.

So what do I do now? I know I could just email the pictures to myself,
but with almost 80 photos, that would be quite tedious.

I thought Apple was committed to full accessibility for all of their

Hi Bill!

I can understand that, but if Apple were as committed to the accessibility of their products as they want us to believe, they could certainly test their software for Windows as well as their iCloud web site on a Windows based PC just like everybody else!

The point is that they specifically choose not to, as I am sure that they have received plenty of complaints about this very thing and apparently have chosen not to do anything about it because it is still a problem.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter anymore, all I wanted is a way to get my photos off the phone and now I have that, so I consider the whole thing closed until its time to get a new phone. And then I will make my thoughts clear by voting with my wallet!

I would use goldwave for this, personally; Audacity will do the trick as well I’m sure. You’ll have to adjust the audio source device setting accordingly. It could be called loopback audio or something similar. Just set it going and then enter the zoom room. Remember that if you yourself will be talking, you’ll need to adjust a setting in windows that allows the sound sourced from your microphone to also play through the audio output, which may result in some possibly distracting latency.

I want to record material that comes through my sound card, e.gb., a Zoom session that I am listening to. I recall someone mentioning such an app, but I can’t locate the pertinent email.  I can’t use the Zoom Record feature as I am not a host. Can someone suggest such an app that works well with Jaws and that records what comes through the sound card?

Thanks very much!

Hi, Gene. Do you realize that if Apple supported accessibility for all platforms, they would not only need to make their products accessible to Apple IOS,and Windows, but also Android and linux? with all the platforms out there, this would be almost impossible, and with every iteration of the software, they would need to test all the platforms to make sure nothing was broken in the translation between platforms. I don't think this is reasonably feasible.

Hi Glenn!

I understand now. In my case 99% of the time I need to make a recording of an Aira or Be My Eyes session, I'm at home at my desk, so I just use a voice recorder which allows me to copy off it recordings to my computer, which I do primarily as a backup.

But yeah, if I was out and about, it would be nice to have the option of recording a session on the phone and be able to copy them off to my computer later, come to think of it, Aira doesn't provide a way to record their sessions either.

Have you tried using a separate app to do the recording? It may not be as convenient as doing it within the Be My Eyes app, but if it works, it would still be on the phone instead of a separate device.

And as for copying my photos off the phone, the last time I tried it without iTunes or iCloud, Windows recognized the phone but you could not access it without Apple's software, and I had never heard that that had changed. And knowing how Apple is in love with their closed garden, I didn't think that they would ever open it up even a little bit.

I guess I don't really understand what you are getting at, for this
simple and accessible technique for getting photos off the iPhone, why
bother recording it? Just spread the word. I will admit that I have
recorded sessions with Aira, primarily because I am asking them to read
information off of something that I will want to transcribe into One
Note later and when I do that I always tell the agent that I'm recording
the session because as I understand it, it isn't entirely legal to
record someone without their knowledge or consent.

Gene,
Rather than using a second device for recording the session, it would be
nice for Be My Eyes, or another such app, to allow us to record it onto the
iPhone and save it.
I've always known about plugging the phone into the computer allows us to
copy out the photos and videos, and I'm glad you finally found this out, but
now that you know this, wouldn't you like to know it is there for your apps
recordings as well?
Like I mentioned, it would be nice to do this without another device for
recording.

Oh man! If that works with my iPhone SE 2022, I will be so happy!
Finally an accessible way to get my photos off my phone!

After some googling around I discovered that Sandisk makes a flash drive
that they call iXpand which plugs into an iPhone to transfer your photos

I called Apple support about this accessibility problem an their

I thought Apple was committed to full accessibility for all of their
products and I know that iCloud for Windows is an Apple product. Had I
known that Apple would make it this difficult, I'd have emailed the
photos to myself as soon as I took them.

Thanks!

That’s what I got as well, even though the email from FS reminding me of  the renewal seemed to talk about links to all the options. So to find the three and five year options, pick the shop online link from the main FS website, then the software for home link, then the JAWS Home Annual  link, and then scroll down and you’ll find the link for the three and five year options after the description of the one year license.

Actually, I’m almost thinking it might be a late charge for not purchasing the SMA by the end of last year, as I recall that prices used to go up for the SMA if one waited until after the end of the year when using their last SMA count. In fact, since I was waiting until the conventions to decide which type of license to renew, I hadn’t yet purchased the 2023 and 2024 SMA and so also got the $210 price when I put in my serial number, but then I got the lower $168 price, actually $178 something with sales tax,  after going to the checkout page.

Also, when I checked the JAWS Home Annual license page, it did show me the lower price from the $95 for each year, but then it said that lower price was the regular price.

Thus, I’m kind of wondering two things, so maybe I’ll be in line to call FS on Tuesday as well. First, regarding the SMA, is the $120 price only for those folks who renewed their SMA in what FS considers a timely manor, or is it for anyone who is currently running a 2022 license of JAWS? And second, regarding the discount for the three and five year Home Annual licenses, is this a discount for the conventions only, or is it now the normal discount for purchasing so many years at one time?

Finally, and I hope this will make sense, below I’ll copy and paste what I got when checking my serial number on the upgrade page, what I saw when bringing up the checkout page for the SMA, and finally what is shown on the store page regarding the three year Home Annual license:

Congratulations! Our records show that you are licensed for release 2022 of JAWS Single User and are eligible to renew your SMA for $210. This will entitle you to receive JAWS Single User releases up to version 2024.

This is how I understand it. If you paid the initial license price of

$950 for JAWS and have kept your SMAs up to ddate, then SMAs are better

because they only cost $60 per year with the discount and $75 per year

without the discount. But if you can't afford the initial license price

of $950, then the annual license is better because it doesn't require

that initial huge outlay of cash.

Yipee! It works! You are the man!

With my iPhone SE 2022, this is what I found:

Hi Mike!

Oh man! If that works with my iPhone SE 2022, I will be so happy!
Finally an accessible way to get my photos off my phone!

After some googling around I discovered that Sandisk makes a flash drive
that they call iXpand which plugs into an iPhone to transfer your photos
onto, then you plug it into a USB port on your computer to copy the
photos to your computer. I was considering this approach if there was
nothing else available.

I called Apple support about this accessibility problem an their
position was that "Yes, they are committed to full accessibility for all
of their products", but what isn't said is that that commitment only
applies as long as you are using nothing but Apple products. Insert a
non Apple product and nothing is guaranteed. To me that is not
accessibility, to me accessibility should be platform agnostic. That
being said, my next phone will be an Android phone and Apple can pound
sand for all that I care! I simply cannot support a conditional
accessibility statement like that.

Getting off my soapbox now...

Thanks!

Hi Gene,
Here's how we transfer photos from our SE2020 iPhones to our computers
running iOS14.8 and both Windows 7 & 10 operating systems using the
Lightning to USB data / charging cable:

1. Plug the iPhone into the PC using the lightning / USB cable, and
single finger double tap the Trust device option that pops up on your
iPhone.

2. Open Explorer with the keystroke, Windows key + E, find Apple iPhone
and press enter.

3. Select and open a folder named, Internal Storage, and open the, DCIM,
folder.

4. The only folder I have here is, you may have more, 100Apple, and this
is where my pictures are stored.
Now copy / paste this folder to a flashdrive or whatever you want to,
and you've successfully moved / saved a copy of your picture folder to
the computer.

I thought Apple was committed to full accessibility for all of their
products and I know that iCloud for Windows is an Apple product. Had I
known that Apple would make it this difficult, I'd have emailed the
photos to myself as soon as I took them.

Thanks!
Gene...

Hi Glenn!

I'm confused, what does recording Be My Eyes sessions have to do with iCloud accessibility and getting my photos off of my iPhone? I'm not criticizing, I'm just curious.

I gave the suggestion to the makers of the Be My Eyes app that we be given
the option to record the assistance, and of course the volunteer would be
informed that it was recorded.
This way we can plug the phone into the computer and get the video off the
phone for later reference.
This would be useful when having technology read to us for labeling of the
controls.
I have recorded assistance before with a separate recorder, and I let the
volunteers know I'm recording it.
Others who use Be My Eyes might let the makers of this app know if you would
want this feature as well, as they would put a priority on this if they
thought others wanted it as well.

Justin,

When the fine and replace options are all set and the dialog is still open, pressing alt+f will find the first occurrence of the colored letter. You need to press escape to close the find dialog and then you can repeatedly press shift +F4 to move through the next occurrences.

Good luck.

That is good to know and I'll file it away in case I ever come across any customized colors in a document.

Hi Alan,

Those are very good instructions.

I think Jaws can tell the user what the font color is as well, so if the person using your steps can find a character in some of the text, they can first find the exact color.

Hi Rahul,

I’m going to provide what I hope will help you locate blue text in your Word document. The instructions I’m providing were done on a system running Windows 10, Fusion 2020, and Word 2019 so if any of my steps differ from yours, it might be due to that. Also, when searching for colors, I’m assuming whoever marked the color in your document used the standard color blue and not some derivation thereof.

From the top of the Word document containing the blue text, do the following:

  1. Press ctrl + h to open the find and replace dialog.
  2. You should be located In the find what text box but you can press alt + n to move there and type an * which is a wildcard to find anything.
  3. Press alt + m to open the more options.
  4. Press alt + u to tick the box to use wildcards.
  5. Press alt + o to open the Format drop-down list and arrow to Font and press enter.
  6. Press alt + c to open the Font color drop-down box and down arrow until you hear Standard colors and then right arrow to blue and press enter.
  7. Tab to the Ok button and press enter.
  8. Press alt + f to initiate the find next and you should be taken to the first occurrence of blue text in your document.
  9. Press esc to close the find and replace dialog so you can repeatedly press shift + F4 to navigate to the next occurrences of blue text within the document.

I hope this helps but write back if the steps are confusing, don’t work, or if you have more questions.

Hi,

I use Word 16, JAWS 2021, Win 10.

I would like to be able to isolate, in a word document, all the text that is in blue. That is the text that I need to study. I am not able to do this.

I have created a skim reading rule with blue is the text colour and white as the background colour. JAWS keeps ticking on pressing control+caps+down arrow after creating the rule. But does not read out any text. It finally says 'no matches found'. I know for a fact that there is some blue text in the document. Can someone help, please?
