Dear list,

I know some of you have tested windows 10 and am wondering if you could give
me a quick overview of the new features and if it is worth upgrading right
away. I guess it is scheduled to be released tomorrow. thanks!

First, how does one obtain this script?

Second, is there a cost involved? And, is this the same version that has
been available, for several years, at a cost of about $350 US?

Thanks.

About half the time, when I need a script, what I really need is a
macro.

I am stumped with the simplest problem.

I have an application which will work fine if only I pass the down
arrow through to the application, not permitting JAWS to process
it. I know this works because I've done it manually.

So, I want a simple script, which I've assigned to Windows down
arrow.

The first script command is the ByPass command, and I think that
works.

I'm then thinking I should send the TypeKey command followed with
the parameter (DownArrow).

So the line reads:

TypeKey (DownArrow)

Well, I get a compile error on the TypeKey command.

I think I am overlooking something pretty simple.

as the parameter.

Marvin,

I ran into this problem over 20 years ago. I could not make diagrams that
required connecting shapes to show flow or correlation. I did find one
software package that had an underlying text script that defined all the
diagram elements, and realized that if I could understand the syntax of this
underlying language, I could possibly just create diagrams in text and then
import into the drawing package.

However I didn't have the time nor the necessity of having to do it, so I
personally did not pursue this idea.

So you may want to see if these programs have any way to import and export
the underlying data for use in other programs, and perhaps this might come
out as text for you to learn, manipulate, and use. It may take you a
semester just to learn how to use the software, but it could allow you to do
the coursework.

Sorry I have no idea what software I used back then, and likely it would not
even be around any more.

Good luck.

Hi.

Have to do use, case, state and other diagrams.

I am a blind it student, and this is a core subject.

Any ideas.

I use a screen reader jaws for windows from http://www.freedomscientific.com

Must be some software, that can design accessible diagrams.

Any ideas.

Marvin, that is a shame. I understand that diagrams are visual
representations, but to stop visually impaired from creating or using them
is not great.

There is a core Unit of Competency that is required to be completed for this
qualification. The important part of this unit is.

Elements and Performance Criteria

ELEMENT

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate
achievement of the element.

1. Derive high-level design from specification

1.1 Develop static class diagram from given set of specifications

1.2 Develop either collaboration diagram or sequence diagram from given set
of specifications

1.3 Develop either activity diagram or state diagram from given set of
specifications

2. Refine design

2.1 Investigate and refine behaviour, state of classes and collaboration
between classes

2.2 Validate correct visibility of class services and state data

2.3 Identify generalisations within classes

2.4 Identify specialisations within classes

2.5 Apply principles of aggregation and composition to refine class design

3. Document design

3.1 Create detailed uniform modelling language (UML) static class diagrams

3.2 Create detailed UML collaboration or sequence diagrams

3.3 Create detailed UML activity or state diagrams

If you have any thoughts about how you could address these requirements? May
I suggest sending these requirements to some blind colleagues and see what

TactileView is a braille graphics program. It's meant for sighted people to do braille graphics to be embossed by the Index Basic-D braille embosser. I don't know if it works with other embossers, because it requires a fairly high dot resolution. But, of interest for a blind person, is there is additional drawing tablets that let blind people draw their own pictures. I don't have the exact page at hand, but explore this page, and you might find some helpful info here.

I've been not really paying attention to the torrenting scene of late so am
a little out of touch. What are people using for torrenting these days? I
used to use UTorrent, but I've noticed the latest version has started to
hang my system a fair bit. I'm still using JAWS 14, so a client that works
best with that version would be appreciated - though if I need to, I can
always upgrade to 16. Thoughts and feedback would be awesome.

I dropped down to a build of 3.3 and that seems to have fixed me. 3.4.x
apparently has some less than pretty memory handling issues the end result
of which was my system locked up twice. 3.3 also hasn't developed some of
the minor accessibility issues seen in 3.4 (I don't need to use the JAWS
cursor for anything), so there's also that.

I still use Utorrent, but an old version: 3.0.1. You should still be able to
find this somewhere. New versions of Utorrent are apparently garbage, so say
a few sighted users (read it's not an accessibility issue), and practically
unworkable. This is too bad as it used to be the best client around. .

I've been not really paying attention to the torrenting scene of late so
am
a little out of touch. What are people using for torrenting these days? I
used to use UTorrent, but I've noticed the latest version has started to
hang my system a fair bit. I'm still using JAWS 14, so a client that works
best with that version would be appreciated - though if I need to, I can
always upgrade to 16. Thoughts and feedback would be awesome.

accessible design software

Marvin Hunkin <startrekcafe@...>

Hi.

Pasting an e-mail, from my lectuer.

Have to do use, case, state and other diagrams.

I am a blind it student, and this is a core subject.

Any ideas.

I use a screen reader jaws for windows from http://www.freedomscientific.com

Any ideas, any software, which will help.

Must be some software, that can design accessible diagrams.

Any ideas.

Marvin.

May
I suggest sending these requirements to some blind colleagues and see what
they might suggest.

Unfortunately, as this is a core unit of competence I am unable to change it
to another unit.

Let me know your thoughts.

Regards,

Hi.

Well.

No accessible diagram software, so how do I do this assignment.

Unless, there are some more accessible ways to describe applications, or
processes, unless, iuse the entity designer in visual studio.

Any ideas.

Did ask a few blind tech people on a few tech lists, but no answers yet.

Marvin.

Calling All Script Writers

Ed Marquette <marquette.ed@...>

Hi Ariel,

Unfortunately FS does not work that way. They don't allow you to jump from
J14 to J16 or J17 without paying for J15 as well. For example, let's say you are using J12 & want to go to J16, you would have to purchase all the SMA's up to the current version. That is why it's important to stay on top
of your SMA's, or it will be quite expensive to catch up. Being you are
currently at Jaws 14, you would have to pay full price for both J15 & J16, each SMA consists of 2 upgrades, which will cost you $240.00 to catch up to the current version of J16, $120.00 per version for the Home / Standard edition. Then since you're wanting to upgrade to the J17 / J18 SMa & buying it passed the discount deadline it would cost you the full price of $120.00 per version to get the J17 / J18 SMA, or a total of $240.00 for both. For those that are current & have the J17 upgrade still remaining, if they buy the SMA for J18 & J19 before the end of the year, for the Home / Standard edition, the SMA for both J18 & J19 will cost $120.00 to get both versions.
If purchased after the end of year it costs' the full price of $120.00 per version, so $240.00 to upgrade to the J18 / J19 SMA after the first of the year. To be absolutely sure of what it will cost you or anyone else it would be advised to call FS Sales at:

Hi,
Your best bet would be to call customer service at freedom scientific and
see what they say for each individual case. Sometimes they run sales and
sometimes each individual situation is different. To make a blanket
statement regarding price and SMA and apply it to each JAWS user would be
highly inaccurate.

Hi Ariel,

Unfortunately FS does not work that way. They don't allow you to jump from
J14 to J16 or J17 without paying for J15 as well. For example, let's say
you are using J12 & want to go to J16, you would have to purchase all the
SMA's up to the current version. That is why it's important to stay on top
of your SMA's, or it will be quite expensive to catch up. Being you are
currently at Jaws 14, you would have to pay full price for both J15 & J16,
each SMA consists of 2 upgrades, which will cost you $240.00 to catch up to
the current version of J16, $120.00 per version for the Home / Standard
edition. Then since you're wanting to upgrade to the J17 / J18 SMa & buying
it passed the discount deadline it would cost you the full price of $120.00
per version to get the J17 / J18 SMA, or a total of $240.00 for both. For
those that are current & have the J17 upgrade still remaining, if they buy
the SMA for J18 & J19 before the end of the year, for the Home / Standard
edition, the SMA for both J18 & J19 will cost $120.00 to get both versions.
If purchased after the end of year it costs' the full price of $120.00 per
version, so $240.00 to upgrade to the J18 / J19 SMA after the first of the
year. To be absolutely sure of what it will cost you or anyone else it
would be advised to call FS Sales at:

Good to know. I was thinking I'd have to out and out start from scratch like I never had JAWS to go from 13 to 17. It will be bad enough as is, but worse if I'd have to pay what I did originally with JAWS 4.1.

I'd urge you to contact FS or your supplier. Based on earlier posts, FS will work out some arrangement with users who formerly had SMAs but who let them expire.
