Thanks to Carolyn and Brian. I will try using the "copy and paste" method. I had never heard of this before. I used to use the "insert" method all the time; but, it does not give me the attachments in the next dialogue box after the "subject line" anymore. Now, I get the "graphic" attachment which, when you land on it, says: "OUTLOOK file attach". I just tried it to make sure it is still doing this. If using the "insert" method: - press the alt key for the menu, - right arrow to the "insert" tab, - then, down arrow to "include submenu" and right arrow to "attach file". Pressing enter on "attach file" brings up the same dialogue you would see with the "open" dialogue box in MS Word; so at this point, you shift tab until you get to "documents", unless you have already attached another file from the same folder. If you get to "documents", left arrow until you get to "Windows c:", and use first-letter navigation to find the folder you want, right arrow to "open" this folder and select the file you want to attach. Pressing enter on that filename "should" attch that file to your e-mail. Now, I asked earlier; but, have not seen the answer yet. However, I strongly suspect that, if I change my e-mail format to "plain text", or "HTML", from "RTF format, this problem will disappear. I will try that next, after I figure out where to change my e-mail format. I'm nothing if not persistent; so, I expect to find this when I get back to my PC in the morning. There is a settings tab on the web page when if you enter on that will allow you to arrow down and change most of the settings like putting in your home page to open, making Chrome your default browser and so on. You do not have to sign into Chrome to do any of this. You should be able to navigate the settings web page just like any other web site. I am not sure why you are not able to navigate this web page to change the controls that affect Chrome. Did you install the very latest version of Chrome? That is very important. JAWS 16 and 17 work the best. Any version less than 16 will not work with Chrome as well. Have a great one.

        Any image editing program you prefer:  IrfanView, MS-Paint, GIMP, PhotoShop, and the list goes on and on will suffice.  I just use Paint because it's included with Windows and the sorts of annotation I may do with a screen capture is very easy to do with paint.  I use IrfanView and other photo editors as well, but seldom for screen captures.

            Another option, which is probably simpler, is using text boxes rather than form fields.  What I would suggest as a first approach is using text boxes.  These behave as though they are "micro documents" within a document itself and do not move if you size them such that what you're going to enter does not exceed the amount of space you've allocated.  By that I mean, for instance, if you created a text box that can hold 4 typed characters across in the font and size you're using, if you type a fifth character it expands the text box by creating a "line below" of the same width of the original.  In the case of a check template it should be a simple matter to create text boxes that are correctly sized to enter a date, "pay to the order of" name, numerical amount, written amount, and memo.

            In MS-Word, the keyboard shortcut for Insert Text Box is ALT+N,X, which then gives you a variety of text box styles to choose from.  I would just stick with the default, which is a Simple Text Box.  When that box is inserted, it is filled with instructions telling you to type whatever you like and then you can reposition the box anywhere you wish in the document.  The ribbon also changes when the text box is selected such that the drawing tools that you can use to do all kinds of additional formatting for a text box is visible.  I just hit backspace to delete those instructions then roughly size the text box and drag it to about where I think it needs to be.  You can, of course, change the font, point size, etc., as needed inside each and every text box.  I honestly can't imagine that one wouldn't need (or at least want) a sighted assistant to help with the initial positioning of the boxes and the repositioning based on what you find when you actually print to see whether or not things align correctly.  Of course, if a sighted assistant is doing the setup the Text Box is an item on the Insert Ribbon.  The default text box will show an outline square printed around it.  If you don't want this, and for a check you would not, then you have to be certain to go into the text box formatting properties and turn the line color property to "no line."

            I don't know whether this is of any interest to the rest of the group.  I am willing to keep offering assistance with this either here or off-group via e-mail.

Hello all, I have a question on where to put information on an application using word. Sone of the forms I’ve seen have blanks as Underline. Does this matter when filling out the form, and do you put the information within the underlines?

You have so many choices due to the evolution of e-mail (and the same ones as everyone else). When e-mail first started it was all plain text. Plain text is exactly what its name states. Hi Guys,

I’m getting into this conversation late; however, I don’t know if this has been mentioned yet but have you tried using a temporary place marker Control windows key and k  at the beginning of the block of text and then moving the cursor to the spot at the end of the block of text that you want then press the key combination JAWS key+spacebar then the letterM. JAWS will anunciate the text between current position and mark point is selected then you can proceed to copy it with control C

                I do use the “Select and Copy from Virtual Cursor” option to copy text from IE to the clipboard and then paste it into a Word document. However, I have encountered a continuing problem using this option with Windows 10, JAWS 17 and IE 11:

 

If I press Insert v when in a web page in IE and choose the “Select and Copy from Virtual Cursor” and then press Enter on the OK button, it does work for a while. However, the next time I go to a web page and copy that page to the clipboard and paste it into a Word document, it might work or it might revert to the default option, which is “Select and Copy Full Content Using Onscreen Highlight.”

 

                I contacted FS about this, but anything I have tried hasn’t succeeded.

 

                Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Actually, it is the reverse. If you choose the, From Virtual Cursor, option, it will copy plain text. If you choose the, Full Content Using Onscreen Highlight, option, it will copy full content including formatting.

Yes, you can go to the File Menu in Outlook, alt F, and arrow down to
File Options hit enter. You will land on general in the list. Arrow down
to mail and shift tab or just tab(takes longer) or until you find the
auto complete checkbox or even quicker alt G make sure it is checked then
press the ok button and your done.

I'm just making the change to version 17 and have hit upon another thing
I'd like to see operate as in my previous JAWS versions,I.e the

Previously, I'd start typing an address and JAWS would announce for me
what was being auto completed, now this isn't happening and its slowing
me down quite a bit!

Jim, just about all the text documents I have are in rich text. I use Alt-N-A-F, or just highlight the folder I want to send and copy it, then paste it into the e-mail I want to attach. You have to hit Altt I, to insert the attachment, of course, like in Outlook Express. You can check your sent items to make sure it went the way you wanted it to go.

As for plain text and HTML, I wish I knew which of the two was the more advantageous to have for my e-mails. I'm not quite sure why we have so many choices.

I understand what you're describing, but even a regular Word document can employ form fields in it.

I will be curious if anyone else can identify a mechanism that one could use that would allow text entry that should appear on a single physical line that does not move the text that follows it that does not employ either a table or form. It's been ages since I used Word 2003, so perhaps there was some method that was discontinued in later versions of Word or else that I am completely unaware of. My offer still stands if you'd care to e-mail me a copy of the Word 2003 file you'd been using to do this.
