Hello, and thanks for the quick reply. No, it's actually and edit box, where
you type in a phone number. It has a label next to it that says phone.

Hi all, I wrote last week about the scripting question I had for my job.
Well, I am still playing with it and have another question. I figured out a
way I can get the dialer window to focus. I use the move to window function,
and it works perfectly. Only problem, every time I have to restart the
program, the control ID for that specific control changes. Then, in order
for my script to work again, I have to manually put in the new control ID.
Is there a way to deal with that? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I
cannot use hotspot clicker, because they don't allow for downloading
programs off websites that are not specifically approved by the company.
Thanks in advance for any help, and if no one can help can you please direct
me to a better place to inquire about this?

Re: Another scripting question

Paul Martz <skewmatrix@...>

JAWS scripting itself doesn't seem to be particularly difficult to use, but
it's all the Windows API and user interface stuff -- window handles, control
IDs, etc -- that is the challenging part, and that is what has impeded my
progress from being effective at JSL. Unfortunately, they are part and
parcel, as JSL is essentially a wrapper around Win32 programming.

And that's exactly the problem you're running into.

I'd recommend the JAWS scripting mailing list. I have enumerated JSL
resources on my blog page:
https://skewmatrix.wordpress.com/

Hope that helps,

for that program. Text from the program is then read at the default speech
rate rather than my temporary setting. Note that I'm not exiting the

If I'm not mistaken, it has been sticky for the program up until some
relatively recent JAWS update, and now I'm getting this new behavior where
JAWS forgets about the speech rate setting after switching away and back.
Has it always worked this way, and I'm somehow mistaken? Or is this a bug?

It sounds like you're talking about text selection in MS Word. If you have
some text selected, and you want to unselect it, you hit an arrow key.
That's totally correct. But I have no idea what that would have to do with
creating folders.

I'm talking about file selection in Windows Explorer list view, or the File
Save dialog list view. This is where you would be creating a folder.

If you're in Windows Explorer list view, or the File Save dialog list view,
hitting up or down arrow changes the selection, but something is still
selected. The only way I know to unselect an item in a list viewis to hit
CONTROL + SPACE, and after that, your context menu will have a New submenu,
so you can create a new folder.

Sorry for any mniscommunication.
-Paul

Paul, In XP and even in 2010 when I want to unselect something I just
hit

Firefox menu tools>addons Takes you to the addons manager.
With nvda, tab to the list of types of addons. You want plugins.
Tab to the list of plugins and go to flash... Then tab to the options
button.

You can also check to see if your addons are uptodate" in the addons
manager.

how will this work with nvda? jaws 13 doesn't support firefox 40.
Once I go to the problematic site the "adobe flash plugin crash" alert
automatically pops up; i'm presented with a retry button, but
activating it only repeats the scenario. where in the firefox
tools\options do I find the control to set flash protection mode on or
off/ask to activate the plugin/allow youtube to run flash or continue
blocking?

No, it's not a security issue. Like I said, if you had said you were
getting an error that Flash was disabled, that would have been the
problem.

I have noticed that Firefox seems to crash a bit with video embedded
sites lately. Honestly, what I've found that helped me was installing
an add-on called Adblock. I installed it at the recommendation of a
friend, but when I did, almost all my crashing problems stopped. You
can download it at www.getadblock.com if you want it. It has fixed
most of my issues.

I can still listen to the stations or videos in question on my
iphone; sometimes when I get a crash message in FF (on my win7
computer using nvda) I try the link in my ot her browsers--sometimes
it works, other times not. other browsers may get unresponsive, or
show the controls but no sound is heard from the embedded player.
I'll get a message like "embedded object unavailable." why would
flash's security diminish with later versions of firefox--i.e., why
did those sites work in earlier ff versions on my older windows xp
computer, but not in the current version on my new windows 7 machine?

Sorry you didn't get my response from a few days ago. Trying again...

What I wrote regarding Firefox 40.0.3 was:

That should work. I thought you were going to say the buttons weren't
reading for you correctly, because that is often the case with
Firefox.
Flash reads
better with Internet Explorer. If you're getting a message that
Flash is
disabled, it suggests that there is a security flaw in Flash and
Firefox
is blocking
access to it until Adobe releases a patched version of Flash. If it's
crashing, that's a beast of another color.

uninstalling
