Movie Creation in Windows 10?
Alyssa <lyssassong@...>
Hi guys.
What program works well with JAWS in windows 10? I used to use Movie Maker. I see that is no longer an option for accessibility reasons.
Thanks.

A couple of years ago, this same thread bounced around. Someone gave excellent instructions on how to remap the useless PrintScreen key to act as an Applications Key in JAWS, using the Keyboard Manager. That was before JAWS 17. I tried following the instructions from Jaws 16, applying them to Jaws 17. THEY DID NOT WORK! Now, there may be a way to do the same thing inside the operating system or with a third party macro product; however, those of us working in a corporate environment CANNOT make those modifications, though we can modify JAWS scripts, which are themselves sometimes triggered by keystrokes, and those used to be conveniently connected with Keyboard Manager. ALAS! Freedom Scientific appears to have killed that. Of course, we just need to accept that as part of progress. Just think of all the benefits we gained with Jaws 17. <Sarcastic Sneer Deleted> -----Original Message-----

Re: Application key
Soronel, You'll get no argument from me. That being said, this is clearly a workaround, one of several. I haven't had a laptop with an applications/menu key for a while now and they seem to be becoming less common. My partner's Toshiba Satellite C55t-A has one as did my much older Asus K50IJ, but not this HP 15-g035wm. This is one of the reasons I strongly encourage, virtually force, my clients to go out to brick and mortar stores when they're looking for a new computer so that they can spend a few minutes actually playing with the various models and making sure that the things they use, and use frequently in particular, are still present on the keyboard (though not necessarily in the same location) and that they like the touch of said keyboard. While one can pick tech specs based on intended use that's about as far as it goes. So much about what makes a given computer comfortable falls into the category of je ne sais quoi. There is no need to look for an old version, the most current Skype version seems to work just fine and you can get it at www.skype.com. I have the Leasey Advanced scripts which include better Skype functionality, but I believe Doug Lee still updates his Skype scripts which you can find at no cost at www.dlee.org/skype/.The last update to these scripts was last September so they should work fine. Having said all this, Skype is super accessible on the iPhone and it usually is my preferred device to use Skype because I can also move around and I'm not wearing a headset that is connected to a computer by cable. Re: Application key
If we're talking laptop machines, you also have the option of not disabling the mousepad but masking the part of the mousepad that causes pointer movement. I do this routinely on the laptops my clients use by getting a reasonably substantial piece of cardboard (it need not be corrugated, something about the thickness of the back of a legal pad will do, or you could use rigid plastic, but that's harder to cut) and taping the left edge such that the flap can be opened like the cover of a book. Since there are plenty of occasions where someone may seek out sighted assistance and most sighted folks cannot function without the mouse this makes "turning the mouse movement feature on again" virtually instant. This allows the native left click and right click buttons to be available and accessible for their intended uses. Many laptop keyboards don't have an applications/menu key since right clicking performs the same function. Thanks for that tip, have you used X-Lite? I sort of seem to remember trying it years ago and finding it not very accessible. Counterpath also makes Bria and I have certainly used the Bria iOS app with great success and it is very accessible. I saw on their website that while x-lite is free, they also offer a version of Bria for Windows for $49.95 US. I wonder if anybody has tried it and what it offers in addition to X-Lite. I actually spoke to a hosted Voip provider today caled Soundcurve. One thing I liked about them is that they use Bria for iOS as their app and X-Lite as their Windows softphone and they support/provision them to work with their solution. When I realized just now that Counterpath makes X-Lite as well as Bria I emailed Soundcurve to ask if they also use/support the full Bria for Windows client and, if so, what advantage it would have over X-Lite. I like the fact that they use third party solutions for their softphone and hopefully X-Lite and Bria for Windows are accessible. Regards, Sieghard -----Original Message-----

As I said, I don’t use a pin.
All I do is click or hit enter on my profile which contains my user name.

By PIN I meant if you set one up. In Windows 10 you can set up a PIN and use it instead of your password. I am not sure if this is an option if you use a local user name, I sign into Windows 10 with my Microsoft Id and I like the PIN option because I can quickly type it on the NumPad and whatever PIN you set up (4, 6, 8 digits or whatever length you choose) is automatically accepted after you type in the last digit, no need to press enter. I set up an 8 digit PIN and much prefer this method over having to enter my Microsoft Id password which is 14 characters with upper case, lower case, numbers and symbols. Since I am not using numbers like in my birth date or anything like that I think an 8 digit PIN is probably just as secure.

I'm still seeing the magnifier automatically come up though, and don't know how to eliminate that issue.
Also, I have now upgraded to the latest build of Jaws 18, and am finding that my failure to re-start at the login screen issue has re-appeared.
I have the box checked to start the computer at the log-on screen, as well as the box checked to always start Jaws for this user.
I wonder if the automatic activation of the magnifier is creating the failure of Jaws to consistently start.
Someone on the list recently posted a detailed set of instructions for dealing with the inconsistent Jaws start issue at the logon screen, but I can't seem to find them in my saved files.

Hello, everyone.
I am experiencing a very strange problem when booting up my current windows 7 laptop.
Whenever I boot up the computer, I often have to go through the process 2 or 3 times in order for Jaws to start speaking. And, when this happens, I now also automatically get launched into Narrator and something called the magnifier. The magnifier is set at 200%.
I can exit out of the magnifier and out of Narrator, but this is rather inconvenient to say the least.
How can I get things back to the point that, when booting up the computer, all that comes up is Jaws.
I’m using Jaws 17 here.
