I have never used Bit Defender, but I have tried quite a few anti virus programs and eventually gave up and just use Windows Defender (I think it's called Windows Security now) because it was the only one I found to be reasonably accessible.

Hi.
Not sure I really understood the question. It shouldn’t’ make a difference where you copy the address from. You have three options: Mbasic.facebook.com – most stripped down version of facebook web available. Lacks many features, and many others are only half working. Facebook will not fix it. M.facebook.com – I guess it still works somewhat, not sure, haven’t tried it in a while – a bit less stripped down nowadays but still static compared with www.facebook.com – the full facebook web experience. Not necessarily pleasant to use, but should be workable with your modern screen-reader.
There’s also an app for mobile users. It’s huge for some reason and I don’t want it on my phone, so I have never messed with it. I do use the messenger phone app, but put it to sleep recently as it seemed to be sucking up battery life even when not in use.

There is no new version. There is mbasic.facebook.com, which is even more stripped down, and it is also somewhat broken. Facebook has no interest in maintaining this stuff. BitDefender Total Security with JAWS?
Russell Solowoniuk
Hi everyone,
I have been using BitDefender for Mac on my iMac for a couple of years now. It is quite accessible with VoiceOver. I had an opportunity to upgrade to BitDefender Total Security which allowed me to install BitDefender on up to 5 machines. I installed it on my Windows 10 desktop, a Lenovo, All-in-one with touch screen. I am not able to do anything in BitDefender. JAWS will read nothing. I had to use Be My Eyes just to be able to install it. I can right-click on a file or folder, and choose to scan with BitDefender, but the "Context menu Scan Results" are totally inaccessible. I cannot read any of the results. In addition, a BitDefender update window popped up, and again, I was not able to access the window in order to install the update. I tried NVDA, System Access, and Narrator, all with the same results. Has anyone had any luck getting BitDefender to work with a screen reader in the Windows 10 environment? If not, I will be downgrading my subscription to just the version for the Mac, and will use Windows Defender on my Windows machine. I am using the latest version of JAWS 2022 and Windows 10, Pro. Thanks, Russell

Re: Jfw and protected view

Hi, Tammy. To cause pdf documents to not open in protected view, 1. Open Adobe DC Reader. 2. Go into preferences with control-k. JAWS lands on an item in a tree view. If you have been here before, it will be the item you last opened. Arrow down to Security Enhanced. Note that this is the item below "Security." Then uncheck these two options: Enable Protected Mode at startup Enable Enhanced Security. Note. When making changes in the Security Enhanced section, you will be told that Adobe needs to be restarted, but you can wait to finish the other changes first. 3. Now when you open a pdf document in Adobe Reader DC, documents will not open in Protected Mode.

Hello Claudia:
There is a marked difference between PDF documents as opposed to Word or Excel files. With regard to the latter two types of files, you can unprotect these files after they are opened in protected view. There is a way to set Word and Excel up so that these files do not open in protected view. If you want those details, let us know.
As for PDF files, you can set security up in Adobe Acrobat so that Protected View is not used. However, to be realistic, I can’t recommend a specific solution unless I can get a sample of one of those protected documents—something which your employer would not allow.
Sorry.

Hi,
I am using the latest version of JFW annual with Windows 11. My job protects all documents, so every time I open a Word, PDF, Powerpoint, Excel file, protection is enabled. There is somewhere on the screen to disable all features. I need to do this, in particular, with PDF files. If I can’t disable protection in order to convert my file from PDF to Word, can I use Jaw’s OCR feature to read the document? If so, how do I do this? On my previous job, Jaws would automatically ask me if I wanted this to be done. Or will it not OCR the document, since the PDF is most likely accessible, once I enable all features? Thanks.

The steps below will prevent Word, Excel, and PowerPoint from opening attachments in “protected” view. You only have to do these steps once for each program. If you don’t care much about spreadsheets or slides, then you can just do the steps below for Microsoft Word.
Microsoft Word Procedure
That’s all there is to it for Microsoft Word. If you don’t need to worry about spreadsheets or PowerPoint slides that are emailed to you as attachments, you can ignore the rest of this.
Microsoft Excel Procedure
That’s it for Excel.
PowerPoint Procedure
That’s it for Excel.
All done.

Hi Claudia, Arrow down to the pdf that is protected. Press the application key or shift f10 on a laptop. Arrow down to either convenient OCR to Word with Jaws or convenient OCR with Jaws. Press enter and Jaws will begin. Depending on which one you pick will depend on which window opens with the text in it.
As for Word documents, if they are protected and you are sure it is safe, I will press control s to save it. A dialog box will pop up asking if you want to continue to save it and it will convert it to unprotected mode.

If an apps are pinned to your task bar they will be in an order. You should press windows key plus T to go to the task bar and then use your right arrow to go through them in order. I just looked at my task bar and Word is in the third position. I can launch Word from anywhere by pressing windows key plus 3. You should only pin those items you use most frequently since you can only use numbers 1 through 9. I have Word, Chrome, and Out look pinned to my task bar. Quite often your computer comes with apps already pinned to the task bar. If you don’t want those apps on the task bar you can unpin them. To do this go to your task bar and find the app you want to unpin. Press your application key or shift f10 and arrow down until you find “unpin” and press enter. That will change the number of all the apps that are pinned after it. I gave the example that Word is Windows 3 so if I unpin the app that is in the second position Word will move to that position and I will use windows key 2. I am sure this explanation is confusing so if you want to talk instead of emailing you can send me an email at marianne@....

If you have folder shortcuts on the desktop you don't get the Pin to Taskbar in the context menu option.
How you can get around this if you have a folder shortcut that you want to pin to the Taskbar, try the following: 1. Highlight the desktop icon and press, Alt + Enter, to open the icon's properties.
2. When you open the icon's properties you'll be on the Shortcut page in the, Target field, and you want to add what's below, but read what's below character by character because you must include the space in what you type in. explorer . That's the word, explorer , followed by a space .
Tab to, Okay, and press enter to save / close the properties.
You should now get a, Pin to Taskbar, option in the context menu.

Best you can do is file a report that something is not working. Funny that the disability suppot person mentioned google, too. Do they think google owns facebook now?

It may be temporarily unavailable, the link you clicked on may be broken or expired, or you may not have permission to view this page. Back to previous page I have try firefox and microsoft edge it’s also says the same things too. Here what Microsoft disability man says Hi Addison, The link that you previously have, is no longer working since it is an older version of facebok homepage anbd google does not support it anymore, so I went to change the whole URL to the new onesm and saved it on your bookmarks as m.facebook.com. You can now try to see if it works.
Does anyone know the new version of m.facebook.com ? Addison

Maybe so, but my only experience with Unix/Linux was in the late 80s when my uncle gave me an AT&T Unix PC. That was a great machine and it ran full Unix, but I haven't touched Unix/Linux since then...
