Agreed. Firefox broke something in terms of interacting with JAWS.

Haha, I don’t think I’ll wait on MS for a repair. You seem to be indicating that Media Player is the cause of the problem I’ve been having. What exactly is VLC Player? Hello All,
I updated my Jaws a few days ago and as usual, this morning when I turned on the computer I got the dialog from Jaws that the FS Cast for June was available to listen to. As always I clicked on the listen now option and it began playing in Windows Media Player. I am using the most recent version of Jaws on a Windows 11 desktop that I got last December.
The problem is and has been for months on this new computer that mid-way through the playing it just bombs out. The only message that is shown says something like, “Windows Media Player has encounter a problem with the file.” I did call FS tech support this afternoon and they recommended going to the Freedom Scientific web site and trying to play the FS Cast in my browser’s pod cast player. I have yet to give this a try only because its time consuming and I haven’t had time today to spend another half hour fiddling around trying to get it to play through to the end. Has anyone else encountered this problem and any thoughts on if just playing in the browser’s podcast player will be the fix? I know on my old Windows 10 computer I always could listen to the entire thing using Media Player. Not sure what the problem is now that could cause this.
Thanks for any input on this.

Have you tried to stop JAWS after your startup has finished and then restarting again? I'd be curious to know if you then get the update window. There is some possibility that at startup, JAWS is trying to get to the information but cannot because the Internet connection is not yet fully active. Just a thought. Best regards, Curtis Chong

Re: Issue With Getting The FS Cast to Play.
Rick Mladek
Eileen,
I thought I’d drop in to simply say that this is not a Media Player problem. I do not have problems and I prefer MS Media Player. Also, when streaming bits as these FS podcasts are streamed, it is commonly the host you use where you either have not enough bandwidth or your down stream / download connection is the problem with not being enough to keep the show in play. If Jaws is freezing up, it is the TTS software but with my pc, I’m still using Windows 11 with the latest Jaws version. I often do switch back to 2019 version when I am using zoom, for example, and never have a problem but often I do have issues with the current. Sometimes you can try different versions and figure out which is working best for whatever program you are using. Regarding the FS podcast and Media Player, I truly do not believe it is Media Player since I use exactly what you have and without any problems.
Good luck,
Rick

After I discovered what was causing all the problems I was having with Edge, I decided to restore all of my settings, then go into the restored configNames.ini file and remove the offending line. Then a monkey wrench got thrown into the works by JAWS itself when its import/export utility refused to import even one setting from the export file I had made just before uninstalling and reinstalling JAWS. Thankfully every Saturday I do system maintenance which includes making a backup using Backup & Restore. I recovered some of my settings from there. Now I will not trust the JAWS import/export utility for backups ever again, it almost cost me all my setting! Gene...

Now that the list has resolved your problem, let me repost a msg I sent earlier this month regarding restoring settings. This approach provides a more complete back-up then the one provided by the Jaws Program back-up option: The folder it's all under is called, enu. It, appropriately enough, is a folder under settings. It's path is C:\Users\hp envy\AppData\Roaming\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\2022\Settings\enu It's a good idea to periodically back it up; and certainly before one attempts to make modifications such as those regularly mentioned on this and other lists. BTW, the credit for this suggestion goes to Brian Hartgen who brought it up in his recent Jaws Muscles course which, of course, can be purchased through his website. The neat thing with Brian'scourses is not only you get the audio presentations but also transcripts in .rtf format which can be quickly searched when you wish to review something. They are well worth the money. Anyway, returning to the question, back up enu regularly for a more complete back-up then offered by JAWS itself. -- Now, I would be curious if anyone has a rebuttle to the suggestion offered by Brian Hartgen. I use this approach regularly for the 2021 and 2022 JFW folders I have. Any reason I shouldn't be doing this?

Nermin's message has your answer, but here it is so you don't have to go hunt for it! --- from Nermin's message --- if you want the settings to apply to all programmes, do the following. 1. Open Settings Centre by pressing JAWSKey+6 on the number row or selecting it using insert+F2 then going down the list till you find Settings Centre, and press enter if you used the list method. 2. In the settings search box type "verbosity" without the quotes. 3. A list should appear containing "configure verbosity levels". Select the option by going up and down the list and pressing enter on the item. 4. once there, expand the settings using Right Arrow, which will give you the three options "beginner, Intermediate, and advanced". 5. Go to the one you're usually using, then Press the space bar. Do not use enter, it is important to press the space bar to open the configuration dialogue for those options! 6. Locate the option that says "JAWS Message", and if it's unchecked, check it using the space bar. 7. Press OK to exit out of the configuration dialogue, then press OK again to exit the Settings Centre. Now you should hear copied, cut, pasted, or copied selection to clipboard, depending on whether you've chosen long or short messages for your verbosity levels. --- end --- Gene...
