Re: C Cleaner check boxes

Mike B. <mb69mach1@...>

Hi Jim,

Try the following, but it does take some getting used to!

If you want jaws to read the status of the buttons in Tools, Options, &
Settings do the following.
1. Find an option you know the status of.
2. Press, Insert + 7, on the number row above the main keyboard.
It will say add configuration file.   The name, should say Ccleaner64, press
enter, then it will say edit button.
3. Tab once & arrow down to check box.
4. Tab to add class button press space bar.  Then to ok.
NOTE THIS HAS ONLY BEEN TESTED WITH CCleaner!
Take care.

Subject: C Cleaner check boxes

Heya folks,

Been running latest Jaws 17 and been using C Cleaner for ages now, the non reading of check boxes checked or unchecked unless I use a jaws cursor is so very annoying as even using Jaws cursor doesnt always line up what Ive checked or uncheck and knowing how sophisticated C Cleaner is the wrong check box check can cause problems.

Is there a work around at all? Something I can change in Jaws settings that will read all check boxes for me?

I’d appreciate any help here.

Cheers,

Jim

Re: Averaging A Column

Addendum:  Mind you, if you're entering the average function by hand it is possible to specify any random sequence of cells you wish, comma separating each cell, between the open and close parentheses for the function.   This is, admittedly, not done all that often but there are times where you may need to average non-contiguous cells.

Re: Averaging A Column

I am presuming we're talking about MS-Excel Here.

Alt+H, U will activate the Autosum control in the Editing Group.  If you follow that immediately by A you will insert the average function in the cell.   You must be positioned in either a column immediately to the right of the columns you want to average or in a row immediately below the cell sequence in a single column that you wish to average.

You can also enter the average function in a cell by hand:   =average(column-A,column-?) where you're in the cell at column-?+1 in the row or =average(a1,aN) where you're in the cell at row N+1 still in column A.

Re: C Cleaner check boxes

the easiest way is to toggle the checkbox with the spacebar. just hit the spacebar on the box your interested in and if it changes you can change it back. or at least know if its selected.

I looked this up on google and in these instructions I’m not finding autosum.

Is there another way to average a column of figures or does anyone know how to execute these instructions?

All the best, Brian

Calculate the average of numbers in a contiguous row or column

1.   Click a cell below or to the right of the numbers for which you want to find the average.

2.   On the Home tab, in the Editing group, click the arrow next to AutoSum , click Average, and then press ENTER.

Re: issue after new insider windows 10 build

Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>

Hi Sharon,

Just make sure you have your data backed up as just as with any upgrade something can always go wrong. Normally the upgrade process works well, but if for some reason it doesn't Windows 10 may have to be installed from scratch in which case you want to make sure you don't loose any emails, documents or other files.

As Joseph pointed out, Windows Insider is basically a beta program, you don't have to worry about it except that this current built is getting closer to public release so if there is an issue with Jaws hopefully it will be fixed before this update rolls out in April which is the time frame set by Microsoft.

Regards,

Sieghard

Yesterday I had an upgrade, I am on the insider program for Microsoft win10.  After my computer upgraded to windows 10 x64 build 15048.0, I started noticing jaws acting weird.

As I type, sometimes the volume gets jerky.  It’ll sort of cut in and out, sometimes lowering the volume, or even cutting out.  I only hear this behavior when typing.

Hi Juan and others,

Yes, anyone is welcome on the insiders list (technically, a subgroup of another list):

As the Insiders is a subgroup of Win10 forum, you need to first subscribe to the parent forum first before joining the subgroup.

Regarding audio problem: I can confirm this in build 15058, and because it does not happen with other screen readers and since disabling sound effects did not help, I’d presume this is something VFO will need to look into.

Joseph

I would be careful about such an upgrade, I have tried it with mixed
results (from 8.1 instead of 7). Sometimes it works perfectly, but I
have also seen computers that are left with serious problems
connecting to or remaining connected to a network. This despite the
upgrade advisor program saying there weren't any issues.

Re: JAWS 18 and RDP Sessions

Soronel Haetir

My experience with RDP is that setting jaws to run at login from the
target computer (as if you were sitting down at that machine and
logging in normally) doesn't work very well. Instead I tell the RDP
client to run jaws after connecting and that does work.

And as Michael says, for RDP to be useful at all you have to have
purchased the remote access option for your jaws license. (At the time
I did that it was only available for jaws pro, but am not sure if that
changed with FS' change in license structure).

On 3/15/17, Michael Mote <miketmote73@...> wrote:
Hi Jonathan! I’m wondering if the remote access for JAWS is working

mentioned in your email that raises a red flag is the fact that you have to
have your authorization installed on the computer that you’re connecting to.
If remote access is working properly, that shouldn’t be the case. Have you
paid for the remote access to be enabled on your version of JAWS?

Subject: JAWS 18 and RDP Sessions

Hi All,

I am having difficulty using JAWS in RDP sessions. Since the computers to
which I am connecting must be logged on 24/7, I use Disconnect instead of
Logoff to terminate the session. The problem I am having is that quite
often when I connect via an RDP session, speech is not available with JAWS.
I usually have to end the JAWS process through Task Manager and then restart
it again to have speech. However, this doesn’t always work, and I have to
restart the entire computer to resolve it. Other times it connects without
difficulty and speech is immediately available. I have checked to run JAWS
and logon and after all users using Always, but this hasn’t helped. The
only consistent connection I can get is with a computer on which JAWS is
registered with my auth code. I was under the impression that the auth code
wasn’t needed for computer running JAWS remotely, however, and so this
doesn’t explain the inconsistency I’m seeing. The problem is happening on
several different desktops with 2 running WIN7 and 1 running WIN10. Does
anyone have ideas on this?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Re: Excel and JAWS

Kane Brolin

Hi,Palmer. Sorry it has taken longer than I wanted to get back to you on this.

A few years ago, I too was frustrated as an Excel user relying on a
screen reader; because all too often, Websites or individuals would
describe how to get things done in Excel solely through
visually-oriented suggestions about clicking and dragging or
activating this or that using the ribbon. But Microsoft always has
built a lot of keyboard shortcuts into its Office suite--it's just
that most people don't think to use them.

Visit https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Excel-keyboard-shortcuts-and-function-keys-for-Windows-1798d9d5-842a-42b8-9c99-9b7213f0040f?CorrelationId=e8b3c1a3-7e7d-45c8-980f-dc9b2ee97bae&ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US&ocmsassetID=HP010342494
for a comprehensive set of these shortcut keys particular to Excel.

If you want to do something specific that seems difficult or that is
not listed here, contact me offline at kbrolin65@... and I will
attempt to help you figure it out. I dpo not use Excel for
super-complex graphing or formula creation, but I have learned on the
fly how to interact with Office help instructions, how to work with
multiple sheets at a time and switch between worksheets, and how to
manipulate a worksheet to give me what I need at any given time.

Kind regards,

issue after new insider windows 10 build

Juan Hernandez

Hi All,

Yesterday I had an upgrade, I am on the insider program for Microsoft win10.  After my computer upgraded to windows 10 x64 build 15048.0, I started noticing jaws acting weird.

As I type, sometimes the volume gets jerky.  It’ll sort of cut in and out, sometimes lowering the volume, or even cutting out.  I only hear this behavior when typing.

I’m running the latest version of jaws 18.

Any help or ideas would greatly be appreciated.

Best,

Juan Hernandez

Hi Smith
Soory for belated response and thanks for your inputs. Well I
generally need to read PDF documents and use Adobe Reader 11 but it is
not always effective. Could you share the version you use?

Hi,

Are you just trying to read the pdf document or edit the pdf document. If
the former then the latest adobe reader download is free and does a pretty
good job. If the latter, I use a couple of applications:
1. OpenBook
2. Open the file with Microsoft word using "open with" in the context menue
(press application key)
3. find a good pdf to word converter online

Subject: REading PDF documents effectively

Hi all
Till now the general strategy I adopted to read PDF documents specially
bulky ones was to convert them into MS word using OCR (find
reader11 ). However the conversion not only destroys the formatting of the
document, but sometimes also results in a lot of mistakes which greatly
hampers effective comprehension of the text.
Any better techniques I can adopt?
Also how can I edit a PDF without converting it?
