moderated JAWS speaking the same line over and over

Gene Warner

Hi everyone!

While preparing to download Firefox from /pub/releases, I noticed that JAWS kept this one line over and over, to be honest, I've noticed that JAWS often repeats itself all the time even though I have the option to suppress repeated lines turned on. Here's a sample from my speech history:

Directory Listing: /pub/firefox/releases/ - Microsoft Edge
Directory Listing: /pub/firefox/releases/
Directory Listing: /pub/firefox/releases/
Directory Listing: /pub/firefox/releases/
Loading complete
1heading and 1679links

Does anyone else notice this? I have reported this to Freedom Scientific several times and it seems like all they do with it is to put it in the circular file because it's been an annoyance for a number of years.

Thanks!
Gene...

Never heard of those, I prefer win 32 ESR.
I don't know of a benefit of running a 64 bit version, even on a 64 bit
system.

I have decided to try Firefox again, only I'm going to start with
version 101 to avoid the context menu problem version 102 has. Now I
have a question, there seem to be three different version for Windows 64:

win64-EME-free
win64-aarch64
win64

What are those first two?

Thanks!

Generally, the most cost effective way to purchase a SMA is to renew for 2

Much of what Freedom Scientific does in its pricing and sales systems is shameful. It has been so for years that they seem oblivious to their international customers, and that many of us would willingly forego the dealers to purchase software upgrades etc directly.

I had the same grumpiness with GW Micro when it provided meaningful competition until things changed. It was even kore odd with them, because they did not have a New Zealand dealership.

Purchasing directly from FS would not dramatically alter the purchase price, because of currency conversions and credit card charges, but it is a principle.

One of the strange things is of course that when you raise this with them, they place it back with the dealer, who then lodges it with Freedom Scientific. I am sure that dealers get a kick back for actually not doing very much.

I haven't seen any discounts offered this convention season for Jaws.
Generally, the most cost effective way to purchase a SMA is to renew for 2
years instead of 1 at the time of renewal.
As I'm set through the 2024 upgrade, it shows me no prices when looking at
the upgrade page.

Annabelle Susan Morison

Hi, it's Annabelle.
I have an Annual license for JAWS 2021, and I'd like to change it to a perpetual license. Those are the ones that don't expire, right? Will it cost me anything? If so, how much. Specifically, I have a home license for JAWS 2021.

The JAWS SMA license has been $150 for several years, but during convention time they have it for $120. Seems there is a lot of confusion here on this list about the licenses and prices.

I believe that for JAWS 2022, Freedom Scientific raised the price of SMAs, the Home edition went up from $120 to $150. Sorry, I don't know what the prices are for the Professional edition.

This is how I understand it. If you paid the initial license price of
$950 for JAWS and have kept your SMAs up to ddate, then SMAs are better
because they only cost $60 per year with the discount and $75 per year
without the discount. But if you can't afford the initial license price
of $950, then the annual license is better because it doesn't require
that initial huge outlay of cash.

I just renewed myyearly license back in April, as I pay the $95 per

Gene makes a good point. Several of us including Loy, yours truly and
others came to JAWS with the demise of Window-Eyes.
We were given JAWS at no cost as former GW Micro Window-Eyes owners.
We became elligible for the SMA program as were became fully JAWS owners.
This should explain some of the different prices discussed in this thread.
If I recall correctly, we were given the version of JAWS current at that
time plus 2 free SMA's.
Very generous, that's for sure!
And when renewal time came, I started buying the 2 SMA option.

still have one sma left so another sma purchase would get me to 2025.
