Sometimes I will notice on a web page that categories are at specific heading levels, like
heading level 2
So I can then keep pressing #2 until I find what I want.
#2 also works well with a giant page of Amazon.com results, and #3 works well for eBay results.

Hi  Mark,

Most of the time, I don’t find headings lists that helpful on the web, just because there are usually not that many of them, and I can figure out any structural stuff fairly quickly by pressing H or 1, 2, 3 for levels. However, there are notable exceptions. I was recently on my Linked In profile and there tend to be a ton of headings there. Getting the list to see how many there were and get a sense of structure was useful. So there are times when it is useful. In Word docs that have headings, navigating with headings is by far the most efficient way to get around.

And by the way, I didn’t know your trick of pressing Alt plus the heading level. Very nice. Thanks for that. One thing I really like about these Groups.IO lists is all the stuff you learn totally by accident!

After installing windows 11 on my computer, JAWS 2022with Eudora no
longer reliably reads status graphics--unread, sent, etc. turning
graphics to all, I see different graphic numbers for unread
messages, where in windows 10 graphic 621 consistently indicated
unread. When I open an unread graphic, the status graphic number
does not change to indicate the item was read. this happened in an
earlier version of JAWS and was corrected in a subsequent
version. since JAWS no longer supports Eudora,I will just hope the
correction happens with a new JAWS. I have graphics set to
labeled, but I haven't labeled any because they are
inconsistent--graphic 676 preceeds 'read' and 'unread', for example.
Additionally, after accessing the internet, the message list in
Eudora often reads "no selected item", and the only way I can fix
that is to reboot the computer ... or of course use NVDA, which
reads the message list correctly.

Further testing shows JAWS2021 reading Eudora much better.

Hi,

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for. If you use the key
combination of JAWS key +2 you can cycle through the choices of JAWS echoing
the character, both characters and words or none, which would make it
silent.

Hope that helps,

Lee Anne

Hi, Shankar. This is probably close to the true time left on the battery. This must take into account the fact that speech is running, how hard the processor is working, screen brightness, whether fans are running at the time, is music playing. If you stop using speech, if you unload some apps, etc. will change the available time on the laptop.

Dear experts, greetings.

Around 4 days back, have purchased the del 5410 laptop which is running on windows 10 with jaws 2022.

after full charge, when I press insert shift b, jaws says

Battery 100  percent, Time remaining: 1 hours and 55 minutes remaining.
My home internet access.

now the confusion is does screen reader is announcing the remaining time wrongly or that is the actual remaining time.

Hi David, I read your book on JAWS and NVDA in Word. It's very helpful.  That's interesting that you use the heading list a lot for Word but not the web. What do you think is the reason?  Do you use alt + number to filter the headings in the list view in the dialog box or do you just use the up and down keys?

Those numbers are very similar to what I get displayed when querying
laptops that I have used.
The way we use laptops must be very draining on the battery.
Thus, whenever possible, I run a laptop on electric power.

Hi,

I find the NVDA headings list time consuming and confusing because you first have to take the step of switching your elements list to headings (versus using the single Insert F6 keystroke with JAWS). It is then presented in a tree view and because of this you first hear level 0 for level 1 headings, level 1 for level 2 headings and so forth. You can of course get used to that, but I just don’t think it’s worth it. I use the headings list all the time in Word but not very often on the web, prefering instead to simply press H or 1, 2, 3, etc to move by level.

Okay, try the steps below and see if the scripts are turned on.

To access the Manage applications feature:
1. Open the Jaws context menu.  Insert + J if running Jaws from the system tray.

2. Press enter on Options, up arrow to Manage applications settings..., and press enter.

Manage Applications settings... Explained:

This list box shows all applications that have been modified through the Settings Center or with a script.
If a check box is checked, JAWS uses the customized settings. If you no longer want JAWS to use a program's defined settings, clear the check box next
to the program's name.

If you make any changes tab to, Okay, and press enter.  Also take notice of the other options while tabbing to the Okay button.
Other options are Enable All, Disable All and Remove Selected.  You can also tab past the Okay to the Cancel button.

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.
