What's even more interesting, I run Windows with Automatic Updates turned off. I know most folks will say that's a security risk, but unfortunately I learned the hard way when I updated Windows 7 and it did something funky that led to mismatched drivers, program incompatibility, and broken accessibility.

As I understand it, JAWS is mine to keep, even if I don't renew the SMA, but eventually the software won't work as Windows and applications keep progressing. Like you, I like the idea of owning my copy, even if it becomes outdated if I don't renew the SMA. The annual license is great for removing the barrier of entry for new JAWS users, but feels like a fleeting thing that you lose if you cannot afford the annual license one year. If your last SMA was 2002, you may not be able to switch base to even a professional SMA at this point. You are probably best to call FS Sales and ask about your situation. Robin

Good morning,
As already mentioned you could go to Freedom Scientifics website for their webinars on demand. Someone mentioned that there might be a problem with the site, if so as an alternative, you could subscribe to the Freedom Scientific Training podcast on Spotify which has all their training webinars.
If you go to YouTube, there was also a webinar by APH on Google Docs. The webinar was done with Elizabeth Whitaker, so the majority of the material will probably be the same, but it is another option.

If you use the Clubhouse app, I would add the JFW room, or however it is referred to, as they have more help webinars every week.
Here is a help doc on Google Workspace Accessibility by Colorado State University which should help you find Google’s own help docs https://oit.colorado.edu/services/messaging-collaboration/google-workspace/accessibility/docs

Re: Need App that records Zoom Meetings and Works Well with Jaws
David Diamond
That is subjective at best. Some zoom meetings I’ve been on the host would ask every single member on the zoom call if they minded being recorded, which could be tedious at best. Other calls no problems like that.
From: main@jfw.groups.io <main@jfw.groups.io>

The easiest way is to ask the host for permission to record, which when granted, you can use the record function in Zoom. Alternatively, you could also use GoldWave to record by setting the record device to the respective sound card. This however is not ideal if your Zoom and screen reader uses the same sound device , as it means your screen reader sound will also appear in the recording.

Re: Convention Discounts On JAWS Annual License
Vicky Collins
Just to respond back to this long thread to confirm that I did indeed call FS today, and I couldn’t be happier as I certainly got more than I expected from the call. I was able to renew my SMA for the $120 plus the state sales tax, and I also opted to get the Home Annual license for three years for the $228 plus the sales tax since I have more than one computer.
I spoke with Kathleen at FS, and she went out of her way to be very helpful, even during this convention week when the FS folks were really busy and working extra hours. I did ask about the $210/$168 for the SMA, and while she did believe me when I told her what pricing the website showed, she wasn’t sure why it was showing those prices. I also asked if the reduced prices on the three and five year JAWS Home Annual licenses were the regular prices as the website indicated or convention specials, and she confirmed those were the convention prices.
I had to get a different serial number for the three year license than I had for the one year one. However, since my license for the Home Annual one year didn’t expire until the end of August, Kathleen very nicely disabled that license as of now and added those days onto my new three year license so I wouldn’t lose those 57 days with the change in license term.
Kathleen also offered to send me an email with my serial number and authorization code for the SMA renewal I purchased. And seeing as I only had that original CD or DVD or whatever where the braille was pretty much becoming unreadable, I was happy to take her up on that offer. And just in case I would happen to need it, she also sent me the same information for my OpenBook software.
Thus, I am very pleased with my purchase experience and purchases and hope things also turn out well for the rest of you.

That’s what I got as well, even though the email from FS reminding me of the renewal seemed to talk about links to all the options. So to find the three and five year options, pick the shop online link from the main FS website, then the software for home link, then the JAWS Home Annual link, and then scroll down and you’ll find the link for the three and five year options after the description of the one year license.

What does one have to do to get the option for three or five year license renewals?
Kestrell
From: main@jfw.groups.io <main@jfw.groups.io> On Behalf Of Vicky Collins
Actually, I’m almost thinking it might be a late charge for not purchasing the SMA by the end of last year, as I recall that prices used to go up for the SMA if one waited until after the end of the year when using their last SMA count. In fact, since I was waiting until the conventions to decide which type of license to renew, I hadn’t yet purchased the 2023 and 2024 SMA and so also got the $210 price when I put in my serial number, but then I got the lower $168 price, actually $178 something with sales tax, after going to the checkout page.
Also, when I checked the JAWS Home Annual license page, it did show me the lower price from the $95 for each year, but then it said that lower price was the regular price.
Thus, I’m kind of wondering two things, so maybe I’ll be in line to call FS on Tuesday as well. First, regarding the SMA, is the $120 price only for those folks who renewed their SMA in what FS considers a timely manor, or is it for anyone who is currently running a 2022 license of JAWS? And second, regarding the discount for the three and five year Home Annual licenses, is this a discount for the conventions only, or is it now the normal discount for purchasing so many years at one time?
Finally, and I hope this will make sense, below I’ll copy and paste what I got when checking my serial number on the upgrade page, what I saw when bringing up the checkout page for the SMA, and finally what is shown on the store page regarding the three year Home Annual license:
Congratulations! Our records show that you are licensed for release 2022 of JAWS Single User and are eligible to renew your SMA for $210. This will entitle you to receive JAWS Single User releases up to version 2024.

This is how I understand it. If you paid the initial license price of $950 for JAWS and have kept your SMAs up to ddate, then SMAs are better because they only cost $60 per year with the discount and $75 per year without the discount. But if you can't afford the initial license price of $950, then the annual license is better because it doesn't require that initial huge outlay of cash.
