The Application Key (usually on the righthand side of the keyboard, between the Windows Key and Control Key) when pressed will give you options, the first of which is Restore deleted item.

To restore more than one item, select items in the usual way and proceed.

Subject: Question regarding the recycle bin.

Good morning everyone,

Using the latest Jaws 2022 and windows 10 on a laptop computer,

When I go into my recycle Bine,  is their a option where you can restore an item that you might have accidently deleted, or is their also an option where you can restore all items if necessary?  If so, where in the recycle bin  can I find either one or both of these buttons or options?

Thanks in advance for any and all help and advice,  Al

moderated JAWS2022 February Build Update, 2202.38, Download Link + What's New

Mike B.

Hi All,

Below is the direct download link plus what's new in this Jaws build, 2202.38, release.

Enhancements in JAWS 2022.2202.38 (February 2022)

The following is a list of improvements made between the December 2021 release and the February 2022 update.

Changes to Sentence Navigation Keystrokes in Desktop Layout

When using the JAWS Desktop keyboard layout, you can now press ALT+NUM PAD PLUS or ALT+NUM PAD MINUS to read the next or prior sentence in a document.
This allows ALT+UP or ALT+DOWN ARROW, previously used for sentence navigation, to work as intended by specific applications. For instance, using ALT+UP
or ALT+DOWN ARROW in Teams moves between open chats. The command to read the current sentence, ALT+NUM PAD 5, is still the same.

New Vocalizer Expressive Voices and Languages Now Available

The Add/Remove Voices utility in JAWS, ZoomText, and Fusion now offers 27 new voices and 6 new languages. The new languages include:

list of 6 items
• Belgian French - Aude
• Farsi - Dariush
• Malay - Amira
• Slovenian - Tina
• Ukrainian - Lesya
• Vietnamese - Linh
list end

The new voices for existing languages are:

list of 21 items
• Arabic - Mariam
• Cantonese - Sin Ji
• English British - Stephanie
• English United States - Evan
• English United States - Noelle
• Hindi - Kiyara
• Japanese - Koharu
• Japanese - Nozomi
• Japanese - Seiji
• Korean - Minsu
• Korean - Nuri
• Mandarin Chinese - Bo Bo
• Mandarin Chinese - Lan Lan
• Mandarin Chinese - Lilian
• Mandarin Chinese - Lisheng
• Mandarin Chinese - Sha Sha
• Mandarin Chinese - Shan Shan
• Mandarin Chinese - Tao Tao
• Mandarin Chinese - Ting Ting
• Spanish Argentinian - Isabela
• Spanish Columbian - Ximena
list end

These new voices will only be listed in the Add/Remove Voices utility for version 2022 or higher. Existing voices that worked in version 2021 of our products
will continue to be available for use. If you look at the Add/Remove Programs list in Windows, you will notice that previous Vocalizer Expressive voices
are listed with a version 2.2 while the new voices are listed with a version 21. Note that some of the new voices include an "ML" description as part of
the name. This was done by Cerance, but can be ignored, and has no impact on how the voice sounds.

Other Changes
list of 18 items
• In response to customer feedback, you can now quickly restart JAWS or fusion using the new layered command INSERT+SPACEBAR followed by F4. You can also
speak a voice command like "Hey Sharky, Restart Program" at any time to restart JAWS or Fusion.
• When pressing ALT+WINDOWS+S in Zoom to silence alerts during webinars or meetings, they now only remain silent for the current JAWS session. The next
time you restart JAWS, you will once again receive alerts. To permanently turn off Zoom alerts, press INSERT+V while focused in Zoom to open Quick Settings,
and then toggle the Announce alerts option.
• Pressing INSERT+TAB in a Windows Save or Open file dialog box now announces the current file save location.
• If you choose to show the clock in the status cells of your braille display, dots 7 and 8 are no longer displayed in order to help make it easier to
read the time.
• In addition to improved navigation in Word documents and Outlook messages introduced in the initial 2022 release, JAWS and Fusion users should now also
experience improved performance when navigating Excel spreadsheets.
• When composing a message in Gmail using the Basic HTML view, resolved a reported issue where JAWS would constantly say "message body" while reviewing
with the ARROW keys.
• Resolved an issue in Google Docs where JAWS was not indicating tables when navigating by paragraphs (CTRL+UP ARROW or CTRL+DOWN ARROW) with Braille Support
enabled.
• When using Google Docs with Braille Support enabled, resolved an issue where JAWS was not indicating a new line while navigating by character.
• In Google Docs, as well as Word and editable messages in Outlook, JAWS no longer reads the entire contents of a table cell when navigating with the ARROW
keys. For example, if you are moving through a table using DOWN ARROW and you move to a different cell, JAWS now only reads the current line with focus
instead of the entire cell. JAWS only reads the entire cell when using the table reading commands (ALT+CTRL+ARROW keys).
• When navigating dialogs in certain web-based applications, resolved an issue where JAWS would sometimes read the dialog title instead of the label for
the current control.
• Resolved an issue where JAWS was not properly indicating indeterminate progress bars on web pages, which indicates that an operation is occurring, but
specific progress time is not available.
• Resolved an issue where using first letter navigation to move to specific items in the Links List (INSERT+F7) was not working as expected in some situations.
• Resolved a reported issue where JAWS would unexpectedly close if ALT+TAB was pressed while focused in the Search field of the Windows 11 Start menu.
• Added support for the Orbit Reader 40 braille display from Orbit Research.
• When using Mouse Echo, JAWS and Fusion no longer announces blank spaces as you move the mouse around the Desktop and only announces each icon as you
move to it. Additionally, while JAWS and Fusion will speak the first time the mouse moves to an element such as a control in a dialog box or ribbon, Mouse
Echo now remains silent until you move away from the current element to a different one.
• Improved support for Windows 11 SE, a simplified version of Windows installed on specific devices and intended for use in the classroom.
• Addressed issues with the Italian version of JAWS where certain keystrokes entered from a braille display such as the Focus were being incorrectly treated
as English keystrokes.
• Updated many emoji names for several languages and added new ones.
list end

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

Whenever I let one of the representatives of the Microsoft Disability Help Line take control of my computer, and they make any changes, to the system, I always ask them to send me an email, including any changes to the settings they have made, so I can save them for the future.

As I am the only one who has access to the 2 desktop computers and laptop I use, I have created some .reg files,, which change some settings in the Registry, to disable/enable the Lock Screen function at will. This is especially useful, when I take my laptop away from home. I enable Lock Screen before I leave, and disable it again when I get back.

Hi Mario,  As you know, he had control of my Windows 10 machine and I was just listening to his movements and they went by pretty fast.  I think once he was in the settings for screen saver, he set the choices to  “none” in maybe 5 to 7 fields.  Sorry I can’t be more specific and it is a mystery how any of these settings got changed in the first place but that’s life with a computer I guess.  Happy Monday,  Mitch

Woops! I was wrong about Virtual Cursor Options not being available in Adobe Acrobat DC. If a pdf document is open in Adobe Acrobat DC, the Virtual Cursor Options setting is available. If, however, Adobe Acrobat DC is open, but a pdf document is not open, the Virtual Cursor Options setting is not available. I guess I didn't do enough research before I sent my other message (smile).

I just wanted to second this.  It is not at all uncommon for PDFs to be protected such that they cannot be copied.  I used to be a member of a car club that had a very large membership directory that it sent out as a PDF, but a protected PDF, so that it was not easy (at that time, anyway) for someone to just use it via copy or even to read it outside a PDF viewer to create a mailing database out of it.

These days, because MS-Word can open PDF files natively, with very minimal loss of formatting, converting them to Word format in the process this strategy is less effective.  I haven't tried to open a protected PDF in Word recently, so it's possible that Word may honor that designation if the source file has it and refuse to open it.

Hi, Steve. In the document provided by following your link, the wording is slightly incorrect. In JAWS Settings, the setting reads:

Select and copy From Virtual Cursor

While in the document, it has the following incorrect wording:

Select and copy from virtual buffer.

The last word should be "Cursor", not "buffer".

Hi Karen,

I'm jumping in late and I don't know what the original question was, but from your post here it sounds like you're asking about sound volume differences between Jaws and Openbook.

When you're running Jaws that's what you're running, but when you run Openbook you're running eloquence from a totally different program that doesn't share speech or volume settings with Jaws, providing you're using Eloquence in both Jaws & Openbook.

Karen, are you by chance using Bluetooth headphones or speakers? If so, try the following:

press insert+numrow 6 which will call up the settings center of JAWS (that's the number 6 above the letters), press control+shift+d to load the default (all applications) settings, type the word avoid and wait until you hear JAWS announce Avoid speech cut off when using Bluetooth headphones or some sound cards, down arrow once, and if the setting is checked, press the spacebar to uncheck it.
press enter twice.

The description of this setting: Many modern Bluetooth headphones and speakers shut down after a while of not receiving sound to conserve battery. If this check box is selected, JAWS will keep them awake by constantly playing silence. You will not hear anything, but your device will remain active, resulting in more consistent speech. Note that the battery of your headphones/speakers could drain faster if you turn this on.

Hi,

I just noticed, or just paid attention, to the fact that Jaws is speaking at different volumes in different programs. How do I get it to remain the same?

I’ve also noticed that doing alt tab between programs sometimes increases the volume even when the volume for neither program is different from each other for just a second or two and then goes back down to what it should be.

I’m running Windows 10 and the latest version of Jaws.

Karen

press insert+numrow 6 which will call up the settings center of JAWS (that's the number 6 above the letters), press control+shift+d to load the default (all applications) settings, type the word avoid and wait until you hear JAWS announce Avoid speech cut off when using Bluetooth headphones or some sound cards, down arrow once, and if the setting is checked, press the spacebar to uncheck it.
press enter twice.

Karen

Hi Mario,  As you know, he had control of my Windows 10 machine and I was just listening to his movements and they went by pretty fast.  I think once he was in the settings for screen saver, he set the choices to  “none” in maybe 5 to 7 fields.  Sorry I can’t be more specific and it is a mystery how any of these settings got changed in the first place but that’s life with a computer I guess.  Happy Monday,  Mitch

the problem was resolved by addressing certain settings in the screen

Karen, well, if you're not using a bluetooth headset or speakers, it should be left unchecked. this setting would not have any effect on the focus 40.

No problem. It was unchecked, so I checked it just in case.

I'm not using a Bluetooth headset or anything like that. The only Bluetooth item I'm using is a Focus 40. Would that affect it?

moderated Auto Fill in Chrome is really getting me

Morey Worthington

Hi all.

Using W10 newest bill, Jaws 2022. Is there some way to control the Auto Fill in the search field of Google Chrome?

Meaning can it be turned off because it sure does make Jaws really carry on when trying to type in a new search in the edit field.

Is this something to do with the Form setting with Jaws?

I have it set to automatic?

Thanks
