Re: Speaking line indentation in Jaws

Yes, go to jaws settings center (jaws+6), type "indent" in the search
field and "Say indented characters" is the single result.

With that setting on you will receive announcements when the
indentation changes but not otherwise.

Note I've only used it in programs that act like text editors I have
never had need of it for the web so don't know how well it works with
browsers.

Rick,

Using Firefox, it is clearly possible to get to the download link after selecting a book.  Note that the book download link is above the submit button rather than after it.

However, when you follow that download link you get to the “check out” page where it clearly states:

You must be logged in to checkout.

You have to sign up as a patron in order to download anything.

The How to become a patron file makes that pretty clear.

Hello, everyone.

This morning, I just discovered a major problem with Outlook 2016 when originating an e-mail.

When I start a new e-mail with control N, I can no longer type a contact address into the “to” field.  When I do this, I get kicked out of my new e-mail, and get placed back into my inbox.

Interestingly, I can go to my contacts list, and copy and paste the e-mail address into the to field with no problem.  I can also reply to e-mails with no problem.

Once again, the issue occurs when originating an e-mail and trying to access someone in my contacts list.

I am using Jaws 18, Outlook 2016 with Office 365, and Windows 7 here.

Has anyone recently experienced this issue, and if so, have you found a fix?

I am eligible to upgrade to Jaws 2018, and will do so when I get the chance.

However, in the meantime, I’d like to be able to quickly originate e-mails in the usual way if at all possible.

I experience a similar problem with Chrome and j18 occasionally, maybe
a couple of times a day. But in my case restarting chrome solves the
issue. Unfortunately I don't know how to fix it. If you have any
chrome add-ons installed I would try uninstalling them to see if that
helps.

Re: question

Mike B. <mb69mach1@...>

Hi David,

If you have an icon on your desk top for the program you want to have run maximized,  try the following:
1. Highlight the icon and press, alt + enter, for the properties.
2. Tab to, Run, and there should be a combo box with the following options Normal Window, Minimized, & Maximized.
3. Arrow down to, Maximized, and then tab to, Apply, press the spacebar, tab to, Okay, press the enter / spacebar to save your changes & close.

If you don't have the Icon  on the desk top then do the following:

1. Go to, programs, in the start menu or the proper Programs Files folder on the route of the C drive, find the program folder & open it.
2. Highlight the executable for the program, press your applications key, arrow up to, properties and press enter
3. Arrow down to, Send To, & press enter.
4. Arrow to, Desktop Create Shortcut, & press enter.
5. Now you can follow the first 3 steps from the top of this message.

Note: The icon that you created on your desktop from the program executable might be named something like, Program Name - shortcut.  To change the name:
1. Highlight the icon & press your, F2, key.
2. You are now in an edit field so, change the name to what you want to name it & press enter to save the change & close.

Take care.  Mike.  Dodgers, try again next year!

First, my understanding was that you might be able to use the

ElBraille has a tablet processor, which is not as fast and responsive
as my three year old desk top computer. It is similar in speed to my
Asus tablet I purchased around three years ago. Although, I do not
use the Asus tablet enough to have a good comparison, and my ElBraille
14 may be faster, it is not as fast and responsive as my desk top
computer.
I do not use OpenBook or OCR on the Elbraile. I believe you will need
Jaws 18. You will want to buy a USB hub to give you more than one USB
port, and I also bought an HDMI adapter with a regular monitor port
for my wife to be able to give me some feedback.

Running a computer just using the Focus 14 key board has been a
learning curve. I did cheat for a while and connected a regular key
board.
The Braille translation table in Jaws does have a problem, it
recognizes dg as the degrees symbol in words. For example, budget is
pronounced bu-degrees-et. I am not sure if Jaws 2018 has an updated
translation that has corrected this. This is a Braille translation
problem, not an ElBraille problem. Also, I have not heard yet if I
can update my ElBraille to run Jaws 2018, which I am running on the rest
of my computers.
There are times that I wish it was a little snappier running Outlook,
Word, and Excel, but it isn't too bad. I had been using the ElNotes
program to take notes, until I just decided today to use Wordpad instead.

The makers of the ElBraille like Fire Fox, and I do not use it. I had
started using Google Chrome, but there was problems typing into edit
fields with the Braille key board when using Chrome, which I am not
sure if this is an ElBraille problem or Jaws, but I suspect it is a
Jaws problem. VFO recommended I use Internet Explorer and Ron Miller
help me get Internet Explorer to be my default browser.

Keep in mind that this is not a VFO product, and VFO did not have a
dedicated support person for the ElBraille when I last called tech
support.
Ron Miller from VFO did take the time to talk with me when I was
having some initial challenges with ElBraille. I have found it easier
and quicker to send questions direct to the Elita Group who made the
ElBraille, and they do respond fairly quickly.

I hope this helps, and let me know if you have any further questions.
I still believe the best notetaker in the future will be a full
featured windows computer or tablet, which is why I am willing to go
through the challenge of using the ElBraille.

here Has n El Braille 14, or knows any Users of the El Braille 14 by
Freedom Scientific? I would like to get some first-hand user feedback
on how it works for them. Particularly with regard to using JAWS and
the open book software and pearl OCR camera. I intend to use the
Pearl, the El Braille 40 (when it becomes US available),and related
software to facilitate my literary Braille occupation. Thanks in advance
for your help and indulgence.

Re: Word 2010 Save Document Keystroke Not Working

Katrina,

Well, it doesn't matter which save keystroke / method I try / use, it makes the document close & disappear, but I just came across something that is really screwy.  If I have MalwareBytes running it does this no save thing, but if I have MalwareBytes disabled everything works just fine!
Take care.  Mike.  Dodgers, try again next year!

Have you tried using F-12? That's what I have to use and I am running Windows 7 along with JfW 18.

Good luck,
Katrina

Re: Verbosity Question

While it is a bother it does tell you that the text is a 2 with a nd
superscript instead of the word s e c o n d.

And it comes out suprascript? As slightly lower?

You type it as in 3rd for third or 5th for fifth.

Group,

When typing a message in Outlook 2010, using JAWS 18, I have an annoying
occurrence. When I type a number using the superscript letters following
the number, JAWS reads it by announcing superscript. For example, if I type
3rd, JAWS does not read it as third. Hope that makes sense. I have
explored all kinds of settings but I can't seem to figure out how to resolve
this.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Re: Tutor Messages and JAWS

Hi Annabelle,

If you want to learn how or what the Tutor & message option does / works you can assign a different voice to it in Jaws Options / Voices / Voice Adjustment, & get a real good feel for how it works, & what it reports.
Take care.  Mike.  Dodgers, try again next year!

Hi, it's Annabelle.
I'm making this app that is designed with the Qt widgets and C++ Programming Language, and I'm wondering, how would I create what JAWS describes as a tutor message? Would that be the same as creating a QToolTip? A QLabel? A QWhatsThis? I'm asking this because I have somebody helping me on the Qt Forum via Chat, a guy by the username of SGaist, and he says he only has a virtual machine with Windows 10. Is it possible for me to have a link where I can direct him to a basic test version of JAWS that only requires a minimum amount of space, so he can test out the parameter that I want to create in my app? That is, the tutor message parameter?

Hi Mario,

It isn't a screenreader issue, it's an Office or computer problem.  I contacted Microsoft Accessibility this morning, & they fixed it for a little while, but I went to save a Word document, & it's back to being screwed up again!

just a suggestion, and sorry if you tried this already, but... have you
tried using another screen reader like NVDA or Narrator? if you can save
the document as usual, consider performing a repair on JAWS. maybe some
part of JAWS went awry and needs to be fixed. then try again with JAWS
loaded.

Hi All,

Running Windows 7, Office 2010 Home & Student, & Jaws 16.  When I create a
word .docx, & press either, Control + S, Alt + F, then A, or F12 to save the
document I do not get a save dialogue to name the file as whatever I want to
name it.  The document just flat out disappears, & I can't find it anywhere!
I know where it's suppose to save to if it gets closed without being saved,
but like I said, I can't find where it's supposed to go or anywhere else!
I'm all out of ideas, would y'all please come to my rescue, & tell me what
the hell is happening?!  LOL  All help will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks
much.
