JAWS not reading titles in Excel
Gene Warner
Hi everyone!
I had JAWS doing this without any problems, then it just stopped doing it. In Excel I define my column titles by selecting the range of cells that have the titles in them. Then I right click (or press the application key), then I find the define name option and select it, I then put in the name "columntitles" and press enter. I have check the quick settings and the "Monitor Cell Titles Read" is checked. But JAWS does not read the column titles. What am I missing? Thanks! Gene... |

Here's a thought. Why not turn up the volume of your SAPI app in the volume settings, you can turn up the volume of any individual app. Then turn off audio ducking, which is a pain anyway. All the best Steve -----Original Message-----

I have a small program that sits in the system tray, also known as the notification area, called Pop Peeper, it monitors my email account(s) and notifies me if there are any new messages waiting. I have it set up to notify me by voice with the subject of the new messages and it uses SAPI 5. Inter JAWS. If JAWS is speaking and Pop Peeper wants to speak, it does, but JAWS' audio ducking almost mutes it so I miss what it was saying. Oddly enough, if Pop Peeper is speaking and JAWS wants to talk, it wait's until Pop Peeper is done speaking before it takes over. So, I'm wondering if there is a way to get the SAPI 5 voice being used by Pop Peeper to wait for JAWS just as JAWS waits for it. If any one has any ideas, I'd appreciate hearing about them. Thanks! Hi Tom,
You mean you’ve dowonloaded TCA MEDIA DOWNLOADER. If so, this program works wonderful for me. When you have the copy of the link from Youtube that you need to convert, you open the folder that is unzipped, go to the tca media downloader.exe file and run it and you reach to the edit. Paste the copy of the link from Youtube, and tab and choose mp3 format, tab once again and choose the rate of that mp3 - I choosed 320 that is good quality and tab to download and press enter. When it had been finished you get a message and you can open the folder that is found at: C:\your username\music\tca media downloader.
Again, it is a wonderful and very good application and I strongly recommend it.

Yup! You can leave JAWS running while it is being updated, when the installer encounters a file that is in use because JAWS is still running, it will configure Windows to copy the new file over the old file the next time it is restarted.

Karl,
I’ve read through your message more than once, and I’m puzzled. It’s true that the JAWS installer no longer has self-voicing, for which I myself am glad. It was irritating. Instead, on my system, my current version of JAWS continues to operate as the update proceeds. You’re saying that isn’t true for you?

Hi, So after getting an update message I am unable to get the update installed. First of all, after dealing with the UAC, the list of updates shows no option to highlight. However, knowing that something is there I can press space and even though no detail of the chosen update is spoken and install button can be pressed. When the Jaws install window opens you would expect the self-voicing install prompts to begin but unfortunately not. Even though I have Jaws running at the time I cannot access any controls on the window and therefore cannot proceed. Turning Jaws off and switching to Narrator doesn’t give me access to the window either. On the odd occasion turning off Jaws has brought the self-voicing window to life, but not lately. I have had this experience on more than one machine running Windows 10.
Has anyone else had this experience and more importantly been able to fix it without just having to install a fresh copy each time there is an update.
Regards to you all, Karl

Anyone using "Webex calling" as a softphone at work?
Van Lant, Robin
Hi, Just got word that my company is moving us from Cisco’s Jabber softphone to Cisco Webex calling. I’m guessing this is a newer product, but not sure. We used to use Jabber for calling and instant messaging, but moved off of it for instant messaging, so that is surely part of the reason for the change. I’m using JAWS 2022 and Windows 10 Anyone have experience with this softphone and it’s accessibility? Next stop is the Cisco websit, when I have some time to look it up.

One of the things that I do when the install of Jaws update begins, is to hit the Jaws key, which is the insert key on your keyboard, is too hit the Jaws key and the B key at the same time, and it will provide you with progress number of percentages. Re: Excel 2016
Chris Chaffin
Ok, hopefully this might help. Auto Formula complete will only work if the setting, Allow editing directly in cells, is turned on. So here is where to find both settings. Turn on / off Auto Formula complete (check if turned on). Go to File, Options, then in the list, arrow down to formulas. Then tab about 5 or 6 times until you get to the auto complete check box. Again, needs to be checked. Next, turn on allow editing directly in cells. Go to file, options, and in the list arrow down to advanced. Then tab about 6 or 7 times until you hear, allow editing directly in cells checkbox. Again, this must be turned on in order for the auto formula complete to work. I have tested this on my system, and if both of these settings are on, then it works just fine. Hope this helps. Chris On Aug 15, 2022, at 8:13 AM, John Doering <john.doering@...> wrote:

jaws touch cursor becoming a necesity?
Josh Kennedy
Hi
I am trying to use an old program from back in 1996 on windowws11. It works just fine but I have a question. Back in the days of windows95 and through Windows XP, I could use the jaws cursor to click unlabeled graphics. These days to achieve the same thing in windows11, the jaws cursor just reads some of the text in the window in the latest windows11.So to get jaws to do what it did in windows95 through XP, oh this goes for NVDA also, the review cursor just reads mostly window text, object navigation does much more… Anyway back to jaws, now I need to use the touch cursor in order to read and click what now show up as buttons in the application window. I think due to the necessity of the Jaws touch cursor being used more and more, that it should be enhanced. We should be able to have the mouse follow touch cursor and let us click the mouse at the touch cursor position including left clicks, right clicks, click and drag, etcetera. Also since I can do basic scripting but am not advanced enough to do the new UIA scripting, I would like the ability to rename, reclassify, and customize any object found at the touch cursor position, have it saved on an app by app basis, or global basis if I wish, ability to share with other jaws users, I could be wrong but I don’t think the jaws window class reassign dialog works with the touch cursor. Right now to label those unlabeled buttons I would have to do advanced scripting which I don’t know how to do. Because in windows11 what was once “graphic 294” now just shows up as a button UIA object with the touch cursor. Either that or let us force the use of the jaws scan cursor in certain applications but I’m not sure if that would be as effective as the touch cursor.
