Re: copying and pasting a column from a webpage into notepad
Justin Williams
Oh, I apologize for leaving that out, I thought the pasting into the document part was the main thing.
Set the placemarkers as described.
Use control windows k to create a temporary placemarker. Do this at the start of where you want to select, then navigate down to where the end of your selection is going to be, so to the end of where you want to select.
Use insert spacebar, then the letter m.
You should here selecting between marked place and current position.
Then copy, and paste into your document.
Thanks,
HJustin

Use two documents, and then paste the material into the first document, then copy and paste it into your outline.

Hi guys:
If I am on a webpage and I wish to select a column of text from within a table, And then paste it into word or notepad but not as a column in a table, How do I do this? Using jaws 2022? I think the browser is chrome if that helps?
The reason for me doing this is that, After I paste the column into word or notepad, I then have constructed an outline of topics and subtopics already set. Because the topics and subtopics are all located within a particular column.
Please advise as you like.

Mike,
Are there table commands for selecting a column in
a browser?
In word and other word processors, you can select
rows and columns with shift + space or control + space.
In Edge, Jaws can give program specific help with
commonly used shortcuts with insert W, but this only seems to be a feature for
Jaws with Microsoft products, but what works in Edge will probably work in other
browsers.

You are absolutely right, I am familiar with place markers; ( I did as you suggested); It did in fact copy all the rows of the column I selected. I did have to go into notepad and paste, then, Edit out the stuff I did not want. It took quite a bit of time, One would think that I could copy simply a column without the rest of the columns in the rows?

Are you familiar with placemarkers? Set a placemarker at the beginning of the column with control-windows key-k. locate the end of the column and press JAWS key-spacebar followed by m to complete the selection. Then press control-c to copy and proceed from there.
Since we don’t have the document, I can’t be sure that only that column will be selected. You may need to copy the entire document into a new file and play with it. But the placemarkers will ultimately give you what you need.

I need to correct myself here. Apparently in the last JAWS update, Freedom Scientific decided to remove the option to disable Sharky. So if you want to disable it, you'll have to create an AdditionalSettings.ini file and put it in the same folder where you run the JAWS installer from.

On my HP laptops, the Fn key is, as Gene has noted, positioned between the CTRL and WinKey at the lower left side of the keyboard. I end up using this key a lot because I have turned off media keys to make using a screen reader easier (and more realistic). When I want the media key function I have to hit the Fn key plus the function key associated with the media key. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H2, Build 19044 Here is a test to find out whether your mission in life is complete. Yes, start a new email fill out all of the form that will be constant. Then hit your F 12 K set a name for it, tab down to file type and down arrow once then up arrow twice. It tends to work better that way I don’t know why. He will be on in outlook message template save it wherever you’d like and when you go back in all you have to do is fill in the information that is specific to that next email. So if you had an invoice, you could leave the to field blank put your email in the C C field fill out the subject line as much as possible and the message body as much as possible that way when you go back all you have to do is put who it’s two and then the pertinent information for each one of your invoices most of the work is done it’s just customizing it that you’ll need to do each time you go in.

So I got a new computer with Windows 11, so I have been trying to figure out the layout of the new laptop and all of that. And I’ve noticed that when I’m on a webpage and I want to hit insert plus F7 to go to a links list, it doesn’t work, same with insert plus F4 to unload JAWS (Not that I would ever actually want to do that, but I was just trying to mess around with it). It’s like my function keys aren’t working in the way that I need them to. Like for example, I believe it is my F5 key that functions as a mute button right now, but I don’t want that, I want them to just function as regular F one through F 12 keys. I posted on a Facebook group, and I was told to do the function key plus escape, and I’ve tried that and it still is the same way. Is JAWS supposed to say anything when I perform that action of function key plus escape? Usually I’m pretty tech savvy, but this not being able to do insert plus F7 for the links list is kind of baffling right now. I know I can use the Hey Sharky feature and have it pull up links that way, but still, I’d like to have the normal key command work. Thanks. On most laptops the FN key is usually in the bottom row on the left side between the control and Windows keys, thought it can be between the Windows and alt keys. It really depends on the brand and model of your laptop because it seems that everyone has their own ideas where some keys should go, even between models of the same brand.
