The weather results aren’t working for me either. They did Saturday morning though so if I had to guess, there’s probably nothing you can do about it. I would bet that something has changed with the survice Jaws get’s the weather information from.

Hi,

Are you just trying to read the pdf document or edit the pdf document. If the former then the latest adobe reader download is free and does a pretty good job. If the latter, I use a couple of applications:
1. OpenBook
2. Open the file with Microsoft word using "open with" in the context menue (press application key)
3. find a good pdf to word converter online

Hi all
Till now the general strategy I adopted to read PDF documents specially bulky ones was to convert them into MS word using OCR (find
reader11 ). However the conversion not only destroys the formatting of the document, but sometimes also results in a lot of mistakes which greatly hampers effective comprehension of the text.
Any better techniques I can adopt?
Also how can I edit a PDF without converting it?

Re: safe mode again

Angus <2.g.i.84972@...>

Hi,

attached is the Registry key you need to have sound in safe mode.
below are the instructions on what to do

1. the attached file is a text file .txt,
you need to change this to a registry file by changing the extention of the file.
this is the last 3 letters of the file after the full stop, .txt
you need to change the .txt to be .reg
So save the attached file to your computer somewhere, may be the desktop,
now go to the place where you have saved the attached file & rename it by changing the extention from .txt to .reg
so the file name after you have changed it will be
Activate Sound in SafeMode.reg

now just hit enter on the file Activate Sound in SafeMode.reg
and you will get a window asking if you want to make changes to the registry, you need to press yes
now another window will come up you need to press ok.
now you can reboot & go into safe mode & you will have sound, the jaws may not work due to the video driver not loading but you can use NVDA.

2. if the attached file doesnt get to you because the admin of this list doesnt allow attachments, then do the following

I have pasted the text of the registry file below,
you just need to coppy & paist the below into a notepad document & then save it as a .reg file.

once you have pasted the below into notepad,
press control s for save,
then tab once to save as type & change this to all files,
now shift tab back into the file name edit box and name the file what ever you want & make sure the last 3 letters of the file name are .reg
for example you can name it something like
sound in safe mode.reg

so coppy everything below between the lines of stars,
do not coppy the lines of stars

Which just goes into the favorites menu, so technically, yes. It is the
roundabout way I was referring to in my earlier message. I know in IE, you
can use Control D to add them as is the case with Firefox. However, using it
in FF still puts them in the bookmarks menu. I'll just have to remember not
to do that!

Ok, Alyssa.

Let's try this again:

1. Press CONTROL plus O to open the file browser.
2. Tab to open the downloads folder so you can select the file:
PlainOldFavorites.xpi
3. Press Enter.
4. Firefox will tell you that it is installing the AdOn.
5. Close Firefox and restart it again.
6. See if you can now add a new favorite in the Add window.

Hopefully, this is a little better.

How Do I Customize JAWS 10.0...

Annabelle Susan Morison

To work in conjunction with a spectragram? I'm hopefully going to make ADX
Trax Pro accessible to screenreaders, and I'm not sure how to configure JAWS
to recognize the components of a spectragram. One of the guys at Audionamix,
Steve Oliver, told me that the spectragram in ADX Trax Pro consists of many
shapes. Here's what he says.

Regarding the spectrogram: The spectrogram is a visualization of the actual
audio being processed. It is like a graph, where frequency (in Hertz) is the
Y axis, and time is the X axis. Because the information is displayed
dynamically, based on the sounds within the file, there are no preset shapes
like the ones you described.

For example, imagine an audio file of you speaking the sentence "Hi, my name
is Annabelle" while a police siren goes by in the background. On the
spectrogram, your voice would appear as stacks of wavy lines (representing
the fundamental frequency of your voice and the corresponding harmonics
above it). Each word would have its own stack of wavy lines that would
change depending on the word and how you said it, and the unique
characteristics of your voice. Also there would be consonants sounds that
might look like patches of noise in the higher frequency range. The siren
would look like a long line slowly curving up and down from left to right.
If I said the words instead of you, these shapes would change because of the
qualities of my voice, and what speed I spoke at.

For these reasons there are almost infinite shapes that could be displayed
in the spectrogram. Do you have any ideas how that might work with a screen
reader? We'd certainly like to make it possible.

Google Calendar Questions

Tom Behler

Hello, again, everyone.

I am trying to set up and use a Google calendar within my personal google account.

I got some sighted assistance, and we have created a calendar with some sample dates and events.

However, when I get down to the first time and date (e.g. Monday: March 13 at 12 p.m.), I can’t read the information that is entered into that slot.

I have turned the virtual cursor on and off with no luck.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how I can read the calendar entries, and edit them as needed?

I’m using Jaws 18 and Windows 7 here.

Thank you!

Accessing An E-mailed Document In Google Sheets

Tom Behler

Hello, everyone.

Someone has sent me an e-mail, giving me access to a google sheets document.

However, when I hit enter on the document link, Jaws says nothing. I can’t navigate it either with the arrow or tab keys.

I have tried this by turning the virtual cursor both on and off, but still have had no luck.

I use Firefox as my main internet browser.

Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

I have my own google account, so general access should not be an issue.

Thank you!
