If it is not in the System Tray, there may be other things that are going on to get it there. You may have to contact Tech Support at Freedom Scientific. It that doesn’t help fix the problem, contact me privately and I possibably could fix it for you if you would allow me to have a Tandam session into your computer with JAWS.

Hi, I went into Jaws and alt f and arrowed down to basics. I pressed enter and tabbed down to the box to check to put Jaws in the system tray. Just under that was another box that was checked which I don’t know what it is or what it does. It was “show virtual viewer on screen”. Can anyone tell me what this is?
Also, when I checked to put it in the system tray, it is still in the alt tab line up when I cycle through programs using that keystroke. Is there something else I need to do?

JAWS freezes in Google DOcs
Rahul Bajaj
Hi, I se JAWS 2021. WHen I open documents in GOogle Docs, after reading a particular paragraph, JAWS freezes and stops talking. Nothing happens when I go up or down with the arrow keys. I have to press alt+tab, go elsewhere, and then come back, to make JAWS read out the document. How can i fix this? Caps lock as Jaws key
Hi folks,
It's been a long time since i needed to play with this, but wasn't there an option to use the Caps Lock key as the Jaws key in the basic options settings? I'd like to turn on the Caps Lock as the Jaws key in my default desktop keyboard layout. I know I can probably go through Keyboard manager to set this, but I thought there was a faster way. Looks like that has been removed in the latest versions of Jaws Thanks, ~Ann

Re: checking the box for system tray

Hi, Karen. Here is more about the "Show Virtual Viewer on screen" check box, and about the Virtual Viewer itself. It comes from JAWS Help, Basic Settings, in the training help, Using JAWS.
Show Virtual Viewer on Screen Use this check box to specify whether the Virtual Viewer is visually displayed on the screen when you access context-sensitive (INSERT+F1) help and other helpful messages. It may be useful in training environments to show the Virtual Viewer. However, in a presentation application like PowerPoint, it might disrupt your presentation to display the Virtual Viewer. JAWS functions the same in these messages regardless of whether the Virtual Viewer is visible. For more information on using the Virtual Viewer, see Virtual Viewer.
Virtual Viewer The Virtual Viewer is a message window allowing you much greater functionality with many JAWS messages. Press INSERT+F1 to experience a message in the Virtual Viewer. While INSERT+F1 messages are the messages most frequently displayed in the Virtual Viewer, other messages appear there as well:
Hot Key Help Messages (INSERT+H) Windows Key Help messages (INSERT+W) Screen Sensitive Help Technical messages (CTRL+INSERT+F1) Several types of informational messages within Microsoft Office applications Easily review information with standard reading commands. Read by line, word, or character. Select text as you would in any word processing program and copy it to the clipboard. Press CTRL+HOME or CTRL+END to move to the top or bottom of the message.
Links take you to other messages or activate commands within your applications or within Windows. Press ENTER to select a link, or press INSERT+F7 to list all links in a message and select the one you want from the list.
Press ESC to close a message, or just TAB to the next control in a dialog and the message closes automatically. The following commands also perform their normal actions and automatically close the Virtual Viewer: SHIFT+TAB, CTRL+TAB, F1, INSERT+J, INSERT+F1+F1, CTRL+ESC.
By default, messages are visible on the screen in the Virtual Viewer, and this is very helpful for sighted trainers. However, the Virtual Viewer can be set so it is not visible on the screen. Change this in the Basic Settings Dialog under the Options menu in the JAWS application window, or in the User group in Settings Center.
If you want the Virtual Viewer visible in some applications, but not others, do the following:
Open Settings Center (INSERT+F2) and select an application in the Applications combo box. Expand the User group. Select or clear the Show Virtual Viewer on Screen check box to toggle the Virtual Viewer setting on or off.

Well I tried it, it did something but JAWS wasn't reading any of the titles like it does when you the insert+control+alt+C or R functions.

1. Open JAWS utilities on the JAWS screen 2. Arrow all the way down to 'explore my settings" 3. Open personalized settings. 4. Navigate to the file that has the same name as your spread sheet, with the extension .jsi and delete it. that will remove all the JAWS settings for the particular spreadsheet and you can start over. I strongly prefer to use the Excel bookmark feature for row and column titles. With your cursor at the beginning of the row or column header (or the intersection of both) 1. Press the application key. 2. arrow up two or three times to "define name dot-dot-dot" and press enter. JAWS will speak the contents of the cell you are on, but just ignore him. 3. If you want row titles only, type the word "rowtitle". If you want only column titles type "columntitle". If you want both row and column titles, type "title'. 4. Press enter. These entries are in the bookmark manager, which you reach with alt-m, then n., so they can be easily deleted. Good luck!

thanks for the explanation! I've only bought Logitech kb300 series keyboards for as long as I can remember; and, until this weekend's discussion, I have no idea that this fn functionality existed in general and specificly to the KBs I use everyday. And, truthfully, I never cared. I'll have to play with this and see if it gives me any new practical use. Thanks for explaining and outlining the KB360 uses of that key.
