I'd say most don't.  I rely on SHIFT + F10 when not using literal right click.
It mystifies me why most tech teachers of the blind do not teach their students to simply mask off the touchpad part of the mousepad that results in actual mouse pointer movement, but to still use the actual hard left and right click keys.  They're just so much more reliable than any emulation and are easily accessible with your thumbs or any other finger you prefer.  All of my students are taught this because it makes their lives so much easier if they're routinely using a laptop.
It's also very handy to be able to either remove your masking or flip it to one side when enlisting sighted help that needs to actually use the mousepad on a laptop.

When JAWS is not set to run in the System Tray, there is always an open window, when you cycle through the open programs, when you use ALT+TAB.

If you don't run Jaws from the system tray this is normal, but if you do run Jaws from the system tray it is not. 

 

If you have Jaws set to run from the system tray try unloading Jaws and reloading, now see if you can access the menues by arrowing after pressing, Insert + J.

I must have something set up differently. I can press insert plus j and it brings up the jaws window and reads the current version, like it would as a heading. It won’t let me get to the menus this way unless I press alt h. Is there a setting I need to change in Jaws?

You should be able to go to the about JAWS dialog and it will tell you how many upgrades you have left.

1. insert+J to open the JAWS context menu 2. press up arrow two time to get to the about option 3. press enter 4. press insert+alt+W to virtualize the dialog, this makes it easy to browse what it says.
or you could switch to the JAWS cursor by pressing the numeric keypad - key.

Oh, I apologize for leaving that out, I thought the pasting into the document part was the main thing.

Set the placemarkers as described.

Use control windows k to create a temporary placemarker.

Do this at the start of where  you want to select, then navigate down to where the end of your selection is going to be, so to the end of where you want to select. 

Use insert spacebar, then the letter m.

You should here selecting between marked place and current position.

Then copy, and paste into your document.

If you are referring to Sharky, in the settings center there is a setting to disable Sharky.
Until I started installing JAWS with all external services disabled, it was one of the first things I would do.

Are you familiar with placemarkers? Set a placemarker at the beginning of the column with control-windows key-k. locate the end of the column and press JAWS key-spacebar followed by m to complete the selection. Then press control-c to copy and proceed from there.

Since we don’t have the document, I can’t be sure that only that column will be selected. You may need to copy the entire document into a new file and play with it. But the placemarkers will ultimately give you what you need.
