Yeah, it's just not normal behavior and I want to figure it out if at all possible because abnormal behavior means that something isn't quite right.

Hi everyone!

This is a really strange one. I have JAWS set up to load when Windows loads but not to load for the log on screen because I don't use it. I also have it set to run from the system tray and to run minimized.

When the system first starts, the JAWS icon is nowhere to be seen even though JAWS is loaded and running and working properly. If I then exit JAWS, then reload it, the JAWS icon is now displayed in the system tray!

I have Windows set up to always show all icons in the system tray so no icons should be hidden.

Anyone else seen this behavior and know how to fix it? I have already tried doing a repair install.

Thanks!

In my experience, INSERT+J does not work reliably unless or until JAWS is recycled.

Unfortunately the only recommendation I can give you is for a product that is no longer being sold and they are not flash drives. I use a set of Seagate Free Agent Go USB external hard drives to store my backups. What they are selling now I believe are called Free Agent One Touch external drives, I believe that the main difference between these and the Free Agent Go drives is USB 3.0 versus 2.0.

Key failure on laptop keyboards is one of the most common issues, and way more common on certain makes and models than others.

You have done all you can, and should, do to try to remedy this.  I would suggest using an external USB keyboard for the moment, and as a diagnostic step to confirm that it is the shift key on your laptop keyboard, and not something else.

If it is the laptop keyboard, then replacement is what's necessary.

Greetings Michael:

To ascertain whether the problem is hardware or software, try plugging in another keyboard into the laptop to see if, on the external keyboard, Shift is working or not. Most likely, you have a problem with the laptop keyboard hardware.

I myself have not experienced this problem in decades of using laptop computers.

Hello all, this is Michael.

Recently I experienced a problem on my Pc. The shift key is not working as expected. When I try to perform a command that involve the shift key, it completed ignored it. For example, when I try to perform the command to go to task bar by pressing Shift CTRL and Escape, it thought I performed CTRL with Escape, so it brought up Windows start menu instead. The shift key is the vital part of the Windows and Jaws keyboard commands, so without the Shift key, it can mean a whole different thing.

I tried to resolve the issue, but nothing worked. I Cleaned the keyboard with compressed air, and I even resettled my laptop just to make sure the software is not causing the problem, and nothing worked. When I finished resetting the computer, the shift key still won’t work. Instead, just one shift key not working, both went out at the same time.

Please let me know if you are also experiencing the same issue with your computer.

Thanks

Hi everyone!
I have been dealing with this problem for a long time and have never gotten any useful assistance from Vispero.
I just downloaded an audio game from Spoonbill Software, or tried to anyway. Then Smart Screen pops up and says that this file isn't downloaded very oftern and that it might harm my computer. I have downloaded games from Spoonbill in the past and never had any problems, So I tried to tell it to keep the file, but it still keeps throwing the warning and won't let me have the file, eventually I get a keep anyway button and click it but still it keeps complaining and I'm back at the keep button. And around and around I go never getting it to actually do as I keep telling it. I finally found a way around it by opening File explorrer, in the folder where I wanted the downloaded file I found an uncomfirmed download file, so I renamed it to the file I was downloading and exited Edge.
Has anyone ever figured out how to get Smart Screen to actually work? I am wondering if this is something that JAWS doesn't support very well and that is why I am having all this trouble.
Thanks!
