thanks for the explanation! I've only bought Logitech kb300 series
keyboards for as long as I can remember; and, until this weekend's
discussion, I have no idea that this fn functionality existed in general
and specificly to the KBs I use everyday.
And, truthfully, I never cared.

I'll have to play with this and see if it gives me any new practical use.

Thanks for explaining and outlining the KB360 uses of that key.

For now I manually edited the .JSI file for the spreadsheet to accomplish my goal, but I'm thinking that there has to be a better way.

I have a Logitech K360 keyboard, and the FN key does indeed have some functionality with the Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down keys. I found out what the functions were by going into JAWS help (JAWS Key plus 1) and then pressing the key combinations. On my keyboard FN with Page Up activates the Applications key, for example.

That set-up would seem ideal in my mind. In most situations, I use
multi-media keys routinely with f9 raising volume, f10 lowering it and f11
to mute/unmute.
Occasionally, I have a need to use f11 to turn a browser into full screen
mode.
Now, I have to arrow down to do this; it would be nice to have a toggle
such as that of a gaming kb as a part of a regular kb.

If you are referring to Sharky, in the settings center there is a
setting to disable Sharky.

Until I started installing JAWS with all external services disabled,
it was one of the first things I would do.

There is an actual .exe file, I always download the off line installer.

I need to correct myself here. Apparently in the last JAWS update,
Freedom Scientific decided to remove the option to disable Sharky. So
if you want to disable it, you'll have to create an
AdditionalSettings.ini file and put it in the same folder where you run the JAWS installer from.

To get information about how to do this run the installer with the
/help command line option.

With JAWS set to run from the System Tray, the JAWS window is accessed easily, by pressing INSERT+J, when you are using the JAWS Desktop keyboard layour or, CTRL+SHIFT+CAPS LOCK+J, when you are using the JAWS laptop keyboard layout.

When JAWS is not set to run in the System Tray, there is always an open window, when you cycle through the open programs, when you use ALT+TAB.

 

 When JAWS is set to run in the System Tray, the JAWS window is hidden.

If you don't run Jaws from the system tray this is normal, but if you do run Jaws from the system tray it is not. 

 

If you have Jaws set to run from the system tray try unloading Jaws and reloading, now see if you can access the menues by arrowing after pressing, Insert + J.

I must have something set up differently. I can press insert plus j and it brings up the jaws window and reads the current version, like it would as a heading. It won’t let me get to the menus this way unless I press alt h. Is there a setting I need to change in Jaws?

You should be able to go to the about JAWS dialog and it will tell you how many upgrades you have left.

1. insert+J to open the JAWS context menu 2. press up arrow two time to get to the about option 3. press enter 4. press insert+alt+W to virtualize the dialog, this makes it easy to browse what it says.
or you could switch to the JAWS cursor by pressing the numeric keypad - key.
