Just tried it with Chrome; same results.
So perhaps it works with all chromium browsers and maybe any browser.

Good afternoon Mr.  Casey, 

 

It seems that when I perform a search with the virtual cursor

On, and try using the H key too navigate headings on a web page, It just keeps saying, HHH, and won’t advance too the next headings.  I even tried doing a refresh command using the control R key function, as well as performing a screen redraw using the insert escape key, and no luck. When I called the Microsoft disability answer desk last evening, they suggested that I unplug the router.  When I turned the router back on, I got the same result.  So as both you and brian can see, I’m really trying everything here, too explain what’s happening here.

What you’ve described, though I’m sure it reflects what you actually did, doesn’t seem to make sense.

The virtual cursor would be off for you to enter text, but not to read it on a webpage. If you move focus to the address bar, the virtual cursor will also not be on in that area. The virtual cursor being on or off doesn’t effect what text coems up. It does however affect what you can do with the keyboard.

What I did, was put the name of the restaurant, and then requested the phone number of it.  When I turned the virtual cursor off, and then tried it again,  the phone number came up.

Same here, on both counts.  I'm generally trying to look up a phone number rather than using one for a reverse look-up.

And my default search engine is not Google, but even with an alternative default search engine a phone number entered in the address bar (omnibar, really) followed by enter triggers a search using the search engine you have set as default.  Accuracy is much better if the phone number has punctuation than when it's a straight string of numbers with no separation between groupings.

First Vispero wants a key stroke by key stroke guide on how to reproduce the problem, and when I give it to them they tell me they can't reproduce it, and that's the end of it. They seem to think that if they don't see it, it doesn't exist and so isn't worth their time. That's why I never bother to contact them when I have a problem with JAWS, because I know what will happen, nothing.

Having microsoft block thigns based on their 'reputation", the number of times download, or whatever, just seems like the kind of attempt to manage the user base that is making me want to switch to Linux before 2025.
Luckily though we can still turn these things off. For now.

I have been dealing with this problem for a long time and have never gotten any useful assistance from Vispero.

I just downloaded an audio game from Spoonbill Software, or tried to anyway. Then Smart Screen pops up and says that this file isn't downloaded very oftern and that it might harm my computer. I have downloaded games from Spoonbill in the past and never had any problems, So I tried to tell it to keep the file, but it still keeps throwing the warning and won't let me have the file, eventually I get a keep anyway button and click it but still it keeps complaining and I'm back at the keep button. And around and around I go never getting it to actually do as I keep telling it. I finally found a way around it by opening File explorrer, in the folder where I wanted the downloaded file I found an uncomfirmed download file, so I renamed it to the file I was downloading and exited Edge.

Has anyone ever figured out how to get Smart Screen to actually work? I am wondering if this is something that JAWS doesn't support very well and that is why I am having all this trouble.

Hello,
I just tried placing two phone numbers in the address bar without
punctuation marks and both showed up without issue after typing the
number and pressing enter.
What I did was to enter the phone number in and press enter then go to
the top of the page and press h until I got to the search results
heading I then used down arrow and the number was displayed as the
first result.
This is using the Google search engine.

Hello.

 

You want it on for the most part, while browsing the web/looking at pages. When you are entering data into the keyboard, as opposed to navigating around a layout that you just want to read, then you want it off. JAWS usually recognises what kind of interface you are being presented with and the virtual cursor will be on or off as appropriate. There are certain times when you might want to turn it off manually, but for the most part, just leave it.

I wouldn't mind Smart Screen or reputation based protection if the (foul
language) user interface worked and actually did what I wanted. As much as I don't like turning them off, I just did since either the user interface doesn't work, or JAWS support for it is broken.

It's a pity Vispero doesn't listen to it's customers. It always makes me wonder if I am getting my money's worth by keeping my SMAs up to date.

It also makes me wonder if I should just abandon JAWS and use either NVDA or Narrator instead.

I just downloaded an audio game from Spoonbill Software, or tried to anyway. Then Smart Screen pops up and says that this file isn't downloaded very oftern and that it might harm my computer. I have downloaded games from Spoonbill in the past and never had any problems, So I tried to tell it to keep the file, but it still keeps throwing the warning and won't let me have the file, eventually I get a keep anyway button and click it but still it keeps complaining and I'm back at the keep button. And around and around I go never getting it to actually do as I keep telling it. I finally found a way around it by opening File explorrer, in the folder where I wanted the downloaded file I found an uncomfirmed download file, so I renamed it to the file I was downloading and exited Edge.

Has anyone ever figured out how to get Smart Screen to actually work? I am wondering if this is something that JAWS doesn't support very well and that is why I am having all this trouble.

Same here, on both counts.  I'm generally trying to look up a phone number rather than using one for a reverse look-up.

And my default search engine is not Google, but even with an alternative default search engine a phone number entered in the address bar (omnibar, really) followed by enter triggers a search using the search engine you have set as default.  Accuracy is much better if the phone number has punctuation than when it's a straight string of numbers with no separation between groupings.

Hello

Well, never really occurred to me to just type a phone number into the address bar before, but yeah, it works, provide there Is a listing for the number. It’s just a google search, and I imagine this is dependent on whether you have google  set as the search engine in the address bar. To verify whether it is, go to settings, search, and look for the combo box that says ‘search engine to use in the address bar”.

I’m writing too ask, if anyone else is experiencing this problem  with using the  Google Chrome browser. Running the latest version of Jaws, and   the most recent updates on both mine, and my girlfriends computer,  of windows 10,  It seems that if the both of us  type a particular phone number of a restaurant that we would like too go to,  The phone number of this particular restaurant either doesn’t show up in the address bar.  We both even tried typing in the address bar  for our library for the  blinds phone number  and the phone number doesn’t show up their either,  even though we both know that phone number.  We’ve both tried this  experience with   the same results.  Her internet service provider that she uses, is Verizon, and my internet service provider is Spectrum.  This problem started yesterday morning, on both of our computers.  My  question too the list here, is, has  the google chrome browser   changed, or did away with putting in phone numbers, or has the Google Chrome browser changed the format of its home page?

There is no default log off sound for Windows 10 or 11 as there was in Windows 7 and earlier.  Don't even try to hack the registry or follow some convoluted series of instructions to create a log off sound unless you are an advanced techie and have sighted help on hand in case you screw things up. The most reliable way to tell for sure that your PC has powered off is to connect a small, inexpensive USB powered cooling fan.  When the fan stops spinning, then your PC has powered off.  This will work with almost any PC, and the little fan  will create a gentle and refreshing breeze.
