I’ve seen on different mailing lists that some people use a piece of free software called bookworm, but I couldn’t tell the official website to download it.

Hello Everyone, I will be attending graduate school this fall. The access technology center mentioned that some of my books might be available in Epub. I have never used ePub books before. Can someone point me to the best places to find, and learn how to read these kinds of books. Thanks, Jeff Lukacsena

I tried that technique with the Chase app, it didn't work, it either kept telling me to put the check on a contrasting background when it was on a black desktop, or it would say the check is too far away and couldn't be read.

One technique I have found that works with
SeeingAI, and would probably help with the bank's app is, to set the phone's
camera directly down in the middle of the paper, and then with both hands and
elbows on the table, lift the phone straight up.
Hopefully the app will allow you to use a volume
button to take the picture, if it isn't automatic.

But what you are not accounting for is that you generally have to be able to see the target to be able to do this with any ease with a handheld camera. And I can tell you that even as someone who sees, this can still be finicky. To me, accessibility is about coming up with a way that works to get the desired result, and does so consistently. Very often that means using compensatory strategies. Things that rely on vision as a primary part of using them, and handheld cameras of any sort fall into this category, are going to prove challenging for those who have significant visual impairment or are blind. It's never going to be even close in ease of use as it is for someone who has the sensory modality around which something is designed. The same is true with regard to any technology that is primarily focused on a given sense and where that sense is significantly impaired or absent for a given individual. And all accessibility, if any is even possible (you can't make the profoundly deaf hear no matter what), is a workaround that is absent much of the information contained in the sensory modality being "worked around." I find all of the clutter on the screen frustrating, but I have not found a way to get rid of that. So I would say from my perspective that it definitely is useable, but sometimes cumbersome. Just a word of caution...be careful if you have several Slack windows open at a time that you ping the right person or group. But that applies to any other platform like this. Pam

I won't use any of those Q programs, he charges for them, then doesn't give you any technical support when there are problems. So I obviously don't recommend that you use them.

Maybe so but I had a couple of document scanners on my phone that did edge detection quite well despite the camera being handheld. You do know it is possible to hold still so the camera gets a steady image unless you have some kind of mobility issue.

Except the Chase app won't let you use an already taken picture, it has to be taken with the app- I don't know of a single mobile check deposit app that doesn't require the photo to be taken inside the app. Banking apps value certain aspects of security that other apps do not because they don't have to. They want tight control over image source. Apps that do edge detection generally are working with fixed cameras, that is, the camera itself cannot move when working with the thing being imaged. That makes it quite easy, relatively speaking, to do edge detection. By contrast, phones are handheld and subject to quite a bit of movement, which makes edge detection very difficult if you can't, literally, see what's in the image and stabilize the camera at the same time. The use of a homemade rig essentially sets up precisely the same thing as a fixed camera and, provided you know where to place the check (or anything else, really, though dedicated rigs come into play based on the page size) you can get a consistent result pretty much each and every time. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H2, Build 19044 Here is a test to find out whether your mission in life is complete.
